It's a fact, not an opinion. You can have 2 people who live a few hundred yards apart - one observes DST and one doesn't. How does MFT know whether you're supposed to observe DST or not? And how would they keep up with the changes to the dates that the change occurs and which cities/states observe it and which don't? How do you account for a person who lives near the Arizona border and commutes into Arizona every day. At home they observe DST but at work they don't. Anything is possible but to do it accurately and correctly would require a lot of programming. And how do you ensure that the software is always up to date to account for changes? It's very complicated to do it right and the workaround is to simply push a couple of buttons to change the hour up or back twice a year. Hardly worth it. And I have 27 years of programming and IT architecture experience. That's not the same as the other issues you mentioned where there are bugs that haven't been fixed yet or features that weren't delivered.

Yes, I think Ford will send you a flash drive if you call them. Changing with DST is way too complicated. There are cities and states that don't participate at all. It could be done but it's too much trouble when all you have to do is hit two buttons twice a year.

Good Front/Rear Door Speakers?
akirby replied to mrtwohands's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Can't go wrong with infinity kappas or Polk audio. -
If you only see one temp when you change it then that's the temp for both sides. If you see 2 temps then each side is independent. If you only see one and you want the passenger side to be different use the passenger side temp controls. If you see two and you want one press the dual button.

How is it backwards? It toggles the setting from separate controls to common controls.

I hate spammers. Especially the ones that use different screen names. -
Don't disagree except for the losing or gaining money part. That's simple math - just take the cost of the warranties on all your vehicle versus any covered repairs. Extended warranties are nothing but insurance, and the rule with insurance is you only cover what you can't afford to pay for. I can afford to buy a new TV but I can't afford to buy a new house if my house burns down. I would propose that someone who buys an extended warranty out of pocket for $1500 (not financed with the car) can probably afford to pay for even a large repair. However, if you're on a fixed income or simply don't have enough savings or credit to pay for a large repair then I recommend getting the warranty but financing it with the vehicle so you're only paying $20/month. That makes perfect sense. You're not doing it to save money you're doing it to avoid an uncoverable large expense. It also makes sense if you think a particular vehicle might cost you a lot more than the warranty costs and you're willing to take a gamble - but it's still a gamble. If there are known problems then the odds might be more in your favor but it's still betting against the house. Sometimes you win but most of the time you lose. It doesn't make sense to buy them just because you think it will save you money overall in the long run.

If that's the only major repair on 3 vehicles then you would still lose money. People win in Vegas too sometimes. But that doesn't change the odds to your favor.

The reason there were so many poor ratings were due to MFT software issues and launch problems with the new Focus, Fusion and Escape. There is nothing to indicate any long term reliability issues with any of those vehicles.

He just likes being green.

Looks like I spoke too soon - MFT does recognize AAC files but it will only play them from a USB drive if they're unprotected.
-
There isn't much new to say that hasn't already been said in the other threads.

ITunes Export works for me. It's a freeware program.
-
It can play AACs but only from the iPod or iPhone or iPad. You have to convert them to mp3s to play them off a USB drive and they can't be protected.

How to disable horn warning?

You don't need to navigate the system while you're driving. If you're doing that then you're doing something wrong. -
07 sel plus AWD rear bearing/hub replacement
akirby replied to ddb maine's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
Because recalls are only for safety related conditions and this problem only seems to affect some vehicles. Our 08 hasn't had this problem yet. -
I'm pretty sure it only goes up by $100 after the first 12 months/12K miles. I didn't think it went up again at 24/24K.

How to disable horn warning?

Why do you need the touchscreen while you're driving? I don't. I can do everything I need to do from steering wheel controls or an occasional voice command. And other than the big volume knob you still have to take your eyes off the road to see which button to press or read the screen. Some people like simple things and that's fine. Others like gadgets and conveniences. -
Given your history I'd say those odds are more in your favor on this vehicle.

Can you provide some examples of what is so much more difficult about the MFT system versus the Lexus system? Are there specific tasks that are harder to accomplish? Or is it just harder to navigate the menus? Is the home screen confusing because it doesn't present a traditional menu of buttons for the different functions? I have my phone paired and a usb drive for music. The right screen is set to autoclimate temp control. I will occasionally flip it to Navigation to check the speed limit or if I want the Entertainment screen on the main screen. I leave the main screen on Home. I use the right D-pad to change the temp. I use the steering wheel controls to change volume, tracks or Sirius stations. I use voice control to control the usb music (playlists, tracks, artists) and to make phone calls. I use the right D-pad to answer a call or read a text message. I use voice control to make a phone call. If I want to change audio sources other than USB I go to the Entertainment screen and hit one button. If I want to use navigation I use a voice command or go to the Destination screen and use the normal menu. I have an older Edge with touchscreen Navigation and sync and I don't find MFT any more difficult to use and in some ways it's a lot better. So I just don't understand why so many folks hate it. I'm not bashing, I'm genuinely trying to understand why it's so confusing and irritating to some folks. Maybe I'm missing something. I understand frustration with it being slow or not working but those problems seem to be fixed now. -
The key is you understand it's a gamble. A lot of folks just don't understand that and they don't understand the odds. The part I find strange is there are people who will knowingly pay more money up front even if they know they won't get it all back just to have "peace of mind" that they won't have to shell out big bucks for a repair. They'd rather pay $1500 each on 3 cars to avoid spending $3K on one repair. That's the mindset I don't understand.

Wait a couple of minutes for the oil to drain back to the pan, Then remove and wipe off the entire dipstick. Reinsert and remove. -
This is one area where I think a recall or at least an extended warranty is called for.
