Alpines are also good and I agree on upgrading the rear door speakers - hardly worth the effort.

Do a site search - there are several how-tos. You can't go wrong with Infinity Kappas or Polk Audio. If you have the separate tweeters then go with components - either 5.25" or 6.5" with an adapter.

Anyone consider automatic rear panel window pop-out venting?

Anyone consider automatic rear panel window pop-out venting?
akirby replied to Rondo1's topic in Accessories & Modifications
I think I've seen Chip Foose build them from scratch. That would be really cool and really really really expensive. I don't think you can modify the existing windows (tempered glass?) - you'd probably need to build a replacement window out of plexiglass with the vents added. Seems like a lot of work - what's the motivation? Is it just for ventilation with the windows down? -
Unknown Dashboard Light Warning
akirby replied to baespey's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
It's more like laziness. It's just a personal pet peeve, but if you have the answer in your glovebox or in an online PDF file (available from motorcraftservice.com), why wouldn't you just look it up yourself? It would take less than 5 minutes. The entire point of the OM is to tell you how to do stuff just like this so not using it is just baffling to me. Like I said - just a personal pet peeve. No big deal. -
Unknown Dashboard Light Warning
akirby replied to baespey's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
It always amazes me when people take extra time to post a question, then wait hours or days for the answer when they could get the answer themselves in just a few minutes from the OM. It's like having a dictionary sitting on your desk and then asking the forum how to spell tomorrow. I don't get it. -

Just have the tech upgrade the system to the latest software version if necessary and get you an A4 sd card. Should be a nobrainer. They should have A4 SD cards available.

08 - Blower fan not working w/climate control
akirby replied to rgigowski's topic in 2008 Edge & MKX
Pull the connector off the blower fan under the glovebox and see if it's getting power. If so then its the fan. If not it must be the EATC controller or some part of it.- 24 replies

It's the percentage of brake force that goes to the front brakes and to the rear brakes, but that's not important right now....... Edge has 4 channel ABS with 4 separate channels, not just front and rear. And it can modulate the brakes to each wheel individually. I do know the rear brakes wear out faster than the fronts (also happening on other brands, not just Fords), but it's not a simple front/rear bias. Why do you want to know?

How do you know it came with the SD card? What does it say in the upper right hand corner - Information or missing SD card? The dealer should be able to get you a SD card for free if the vehicle came with nav. If not call Ford and they'll mail you one.

2011+ Sync/MyTouch "Master Reset" walk-through?
akirby replied to carsick30's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Pulling the fuse is the same as disconnecting the negative battery cable. -
The steering is still hyrdraulic with electric assist so there is still a power steering pump with fluid.

2011+ Sync/MyTouch "Master Reset" walk-through?
akirby replied to carsick30's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Either pull the negative battery cable for a few minutes or use the Master Reset button in the MFT settings menu. The menu button will clear software issues but for hardware issues you need to pull the power. -
Just paint them.

Brakes, not breaks. I assume you mean taillights when you say running lights? If you changed the bulbs and used the right ones (3057) then it has to be a fuse. When you turn on the headlamps, do the parking lights and headlights come on? If so then it's a fuse. If not it may be the switch. -
Seems like they go clockwise but it's been awhile so I'm not 100% sure. But I don't think the tools are directional - should work either way.

Amsoil top tier does not meet the Ford spec. It may work perfectly fine but there is a reason Ford publishes a spec and I would not use any oil that didn't meet the spec.
-
It won't turn on the compressor if it's below 40-ish F.
-
Nope. You have a 5 yr/ 60K mile warranty on the drivetrain which includes the engine. In the owner's manual it provides the required oil spec: Amsoil top tier 5W-20 that boasts 1 yr intervals does not meet this spec. The XL formula does and might get you to 1 yr intervals with low mileage but that would be pushing it. There is a reason auto mfrs have oil specs and not using an oil that meets the spec is risky, warranty or no warranty. Motorcraft makes a full synthetic 5W-20 if you want full synthetic.
-
I missed the battery being dead - that could be it. I'd replace it just to be safe then if you still get the door ajar warning try the wd-40 inside the latch on the door.
-
IIRC Amsoil didn't meet the Ford spec, but I'm not sure. If it doesn't meet the spec then that's a bit risky and an engine problem may not be covered by the factory warranty.
-
It's the door sensor inside the latch. Spray inside the latch with WD40.
