  1. That makes a lot of sense as to why it changed. How you can get out of a running car and not realize it was still running is beside me though. For a hybrid where the engine is on but not running it makes more sense. However, my 2013 Fusion has an automatic engine shutoff after 30 minutes, and you have to disable it specifically each time the car is started. To me that's a much bigger safety net. To me it's more about knowing that you walked away with the key - in case you weren't planning to come back. The engine will continue to run and there is a warning in the left hand screen about no key, but you could easily drive off without a key and if you didn't see the 20 second warning to restart the vehicle without the key after you shut it off you'd be stranded.
  2. I agree that environmental stress can cause failures from heat, vibration or power surges but in a vehicle I still think they're relatively rare. Outside of a led display I don't think I've even heard of an electronics failure after the first year. In any event, the odds are still not in your favor because the mfr has factored the repair rates into the cost of the warranty and if the odds were not in their favor over the long term and over a large number of vehicles then they wouldn't be selling them because they'd be losing money. It's also the reason corporations self-insure for all but the most catastrophic events - it's cheaper.
  3. Well of course it's software, but as of right now I don't think anyone has actually hacked the software to be able to make such changes, and given Ford's security it would be very difficult without some inside help and that's not going to happen. I could see making the number of blinks configurable, but if 3 blinks aren't enough then just use the permanent blinker and turn it off when you're done. I use 3 all the time and it seems more than sufficient to me unless I'm asking for someone to let me in.
  4. Better ride quality and better fuel economy were the biggest improvements over the Aviator that we noticed and that was a big reason we traded it.
  5. While I totally agree it should be a user setting, there are 3 perfectly viable workarounds to avoid the honk. So I don't quite understand why you're so mad. And what's the issue with the turn signal? That's one of the more useful features on my 2013 Fusion although it takes about 2 weeks to get used to it.
  6. Hmm....interesting that you don't get the double honk telling you that the IA key was removed. You don't get any kind of warning?
  7. Congratulations! You've won a 2 week posting suspension (all expenses paid). I asked you to move on and even offered to let you start a new topic but you chose to continue calling me names. I'll leave the posts here for posterity but I'm closing the thread. Enjoy your vacation!
  8. Not really trying to sway you, just to make sure you're doing an apples to apples comparison. If you don't like it then you don't like it. I think you should give it at least a couple more drives if you like it otherwise, just to see if it's something you would get used to especially if you can keep it for a few hours or overnight. The Explorer chassis started out as a Ranger chassis way back in 1991 but it evolved significantly over the years to be different including IRS.
  9. We went from an Aviator to a 08 Edge and I agree with Dingo - totally kicked ass in every category except maybe outright acceleration.
  10. I'm more than happy to end the discussion by deleting this topic altogether. I'm just trying to do my job as the moderator. If you don't like it you can leave. If you'd like to start a new topic, I'll delete this one.
  11. You can't reprogram the turn signal. If you're talking about the IA warning that no keyfob is detected, you have 3 options: Leave the door open. Turn off the vehicle. Leave the key in the car.
  12. BTW - electronics either die immediately or they last a long time. They don't usually die after a few years - maybe with the exception of radio displays.
  13. It's a gamble and it can always work in your favor on 1, 2 or even 3 vehicles. However, in the long run the odds are always in the house's favor. If that wasn't the case they'd stop selling them. So it really comes down to whether you want to gamble or not gamble. Just to add a counter example to your 2 vehicles, out of our last 7 vehicles 6 were kept at least 2 years after the warranty expired (2 Rangers, 1 Expedition, 1 Edge, 1 Lincoln LS and 1 Fusion). We had an Aviator that had a lot of problems but we ditched it right after the 4/50 warranty expired. Out of those 7 vehicles, my out of pocket expenses for repairs that would have been covered by an extended warranty was less than $300. Had I purchased extended warranties I'd be out of pocket $7K - $12K. Even if I have to replace an engine tomorrow I'm still thousands ahead. The only exception is if you're on a fixed or low income and can't afford to pay for a large repair out of pocket. In that case you should finance the warranty with the vehicle so you only pay a few dollars per month. It may be more expensive in the long run but it avoids a large expense at one time. I'm not saying you shouldn't buy one - just understand that it's a gamble and the odds are not in your favor over the long term.
  14. Listen - all I asked was what info you were providing and why. You could have been a salesperson looking for leads. I told you to carry on so I suggest that's what you do.
  15. You have to eat at the Apple Barn/Applewood family restaurant. They're behind Tony Roma's across the stream where Pigeon Forge turns into Sevierville. Best fried chicken and apple fritters ever!
  16. The only one worth buying is a Ford ESP. You can buy it anytime within the factory bumper to bumper warranty. Although I don't recommend any extended warranty in the first place. In the long run you'll most likely lose money.
  17. It's $100 more after 12 months/12k miles. You can buy it up to 3 yrs/36k.
  18. The info is available including dealer cash if you know where to look. Just making sure you weren't pulling something shady. Carry on.....
  19. That happens when the vehicle is in motion - they don't want you doing that while driving. If it's doing it while stopped, try pulling the fuse and doing a reboot or a master reset.

  21. If it's not the fuse then it sounds like the APIM is dead.
  22. The new one is a 2015. The 2014s should already be on sale.
  23. What is it you're providing? Invoice prices and rebates are all available online already.
