That update required a dealer to perform because if done incorrectly it could brick the system. All the rest are self-installable. That said $300 is highway robbery. Check around for better prices.

It is no longer common to have recurring issues. There appears to be a small number of MFT owners with hardware problems and probably need new APIMs. The current software since last year has been relatively stable.

PATS programming and remote keyless entry programming are 2 different things.

The corners aren't actually larger - they just allow you to touch any part of the quadrant to switch not just the top or bottom edge.

Exactly. It's not worth the effort to make it fully automated when the workaround is for the user to hit a button twice a year.

This is a common problem. Bumpers are plastic and are painted at a separate facility. This can lead to mismatches. If it's noticeable it will be repainted under warranty, usually no questions asked.

Check the sync bluetooth connection on the phone to see if there is a notifcations option and if so turn it on. Make sure the phone isn't on silent. My iphone5 doesn't alert if it's on silent. Make sure the phone O/S is up to date.

Sounds like the new ones are on the wrong frequency.

If you can use IDS to program the key fobs you can also use it with the keypad. When you press the 7/8 and.9/0 at the same time it's equivalent to pressing the lock button on a regular fob.

Does it light up when you press the buttons? Are you pressing both buttons (7/8 and 9/0) at the same time and releasing them?

I've had both although the LTX was on an explorer. I think you'll get better mileage with the latitudes but they're both good tires.

You can't count all visits. Any visit during the factory warranty doesn't count because those are already covered. And here is something else you can count on 100% - if Ford charges $1200 for a warranty - on average it's not paying out more than $1200 in repairs. Guaranteed.

My last 4 vehicles was a Ranger (5 years), another Ranger (5 years), A Lincoln LS (6 years) and a Fusion (7 years). Neither of the Rangers ever went back to the dealer. Neither did the Fusion although I did replace one door handle myself ($60). The LS only made 2 trips for various minor things. My wife's last 3 vehicles were an Expedition (6 years), an Aviator (4 years) and an Edge (5 years). The Expedition had one repair (coil pack). The Aviator had several issues including a new engine head. The Edge hasn't had a single issue. So yes - I do believe you're in the minority if you've had that many vehicles with more than 4 visits during the ESP period. And just think if every vehicle was like yours - Ford would be losing money hand over fist on ESPs and they'd either raise the price or stop selling them.

Another option is to use two clean 5 gallon buckets and fill one with new fluid with a hose connected to the return line. Then just run the vehicle until the old fluid turns new (and don't let the new fluid run dry in the other bucket).

Like I said - you can always make out on one or two vehicles. But if every vehicle you buy requires 4 visits to the shop for more than $100 repairs then something else is wrong. And remember - for every person like you who makes 4 visits there are dozens of others who make no visits whatsoever.
