  1. Some early build 2011 Explorers and Edges require dealer installation - not sure why. But they're not just "deciding to stop mailing usb drives".
  2. Go to Members, search for FordGuru and send a PM. I'm surprised he hasn't chimed in here already.
  3. I don't see how that would be possible since the engines are in totally different orientations (North-South in the mustang, East-West in the edge).
  4. +100 You can try to show her why it was a bad decision and explain the importance of having a budget and sticking to it but if she's really an impulsive buyer then she probably won't listen. If this really is HER money then try to hold HER to paying for it so she can feel the pain of overpaying and not having enough money. Easier said than done though.
  5. Ping Rob (FordGuru) - he's a service guy and he should know.
  6. Replacing the trailing arm knuckle assembly will completely fix the problem. I think technically the warranty only has to cover the failed part, not the root cause, but I would expect Ford to cover it in this case because of the TSB and the known cause. You could do a search to see if other Edge owners have gotten theirs covered - I don't remember. But make sure you hear it from Ford and not just the dealer. Sometimes they don't ask Ford the right question.
  7. Can't you use FM1 for talk and FM2 for music?
  8. It's not that the trailing arm knuckle assembly is covered by the warranty - it's not. The issue is that the FIX for the wheel bearing failure that IS under warranty is to replace the trailing arm knuckle assembly per the TSB. Have you tried contacting Ford directly? Also - make sure the dealership actually asks Ford if it's covered due to the TSB. Sounds like they didn't even ask and were just making assumptions.
  9. The typical Ford spec for lug nuts is 100 ft/lbs, NOT 50. You don't have to use a torque wrench but it helps a lot to be sure you're getting even torque.
  10. Think of it this way. You could be sitting still but still turning the steering wheel back and forth thereby changing the steering angle but the yaw is not changing. Conversely - you could be in an oversteer situation where the yaw sensor says the rear end is coming around and the steering angle could start out in the same direction of the turn but change quickly to the opposite direction as the driver starts to correct. They're 2 totally different measurements.
  11. I don't know whether it's one part or two but it has to be 2 different sensors. I thought the yaw sensor was typically in the center of the vehicle while the steering angle is just a sensor on the steering column and measures steering angle mechanically.
  12. The good news is they can no longer say "wait for the update".
  13. They measure different things - how could they be the same?
  14. I don't blame you if that's the way you were treated but sometimes it's difficult to tell what is coming from Ford and what is coming from the dealer which is an independent business. Another member had a supposed warranty claim denied for a PCM/Coil replacement that everyone else was getting repaired under warranty. He also blamed Ford initially only to find out that the dealer screwed up and Ford eventually covered the repair under warranty. In this case I would have expected Ford to at least replace the APIM, even if that didn't work for wlepse. Unfortunately you can't tell if the dealer decided not to replace it on their own or if Ford told them not to. I suspect there is some other hardware problem in certain vehicles - either in another component other than the APIM or in the wiring or connectors. When wlepse gets the new software I guess we can confirm that one way or the other. it's also possible there are multiple bad APIMs. Either way I hope you get your problem fixed.
  15. It's been rumored that anything prior to version 2.7 has to be dealer installed once - then you can do it yourself from there on. It's possible the new upgrade can be self-installed on version 1.8. You could test it by going to syncmyride.com and use the status checker to make sure it knows you have 1.8 and see if it allows you to download the software. You can always just try it and see and if it doesn't work then take it to the dealer. You don't have to wait for the package except to get the SD card for Navigation. The dealer should do the software upgrade(s) at NO CHARGE. If they try to charge you call Ford or find another dealer.
  16. The syncmyride.com download IS the official package. The software is identical. It could be longer than a week to get all of the packages mailed out. If you can wait then wait but if it gets worse and you can do without Nav I'd go ahead and download it.
  17. Like wlepse said there isn't anything the dealer can do until the new software came out other than doing a full reset. You can go ahead and install the updated software from syncmyride.com. You won't be able to use the Nav system but it should solve all the other problems. If nav wasn't really working anyway then you won't lost anything. When you get the SD card just plug it in and nav will work. If I was having as many problems as you are I would go ahead and get the update myself.
  18. Your dealer should have the new software or you can download it yourself at syncmyride.com. Why wait? Sounds like your dealer is the bigger problem here. You do not have to use your selling dealer for warranty service. Sounds like you need a new dealer.
  19. I agree it would be nice if it was an option but I can understand why Ford would do it the way they did. Does the Edge have an autoset feature? Our Aviator had that and it would do an autoseek and lock in the presets to the 6 strongest stations. When you were done it would switch back to the original presets. That worked great until we got Sirius. Now we just put it on the 70s or 80s channel and never have to change it.
  20. I disagree completely. I think most people switch between presets way more often than they browse all stations. In fact I never browse all stations - I just go back and forth amongst my presets. Don't you get at least 12 presets (6 on fm1 and 6 on fm2)? If your phone doesn't make calls then try un-pairing and re-pairing after resetting the phone by pulling the battery.
  21. He obviously underestimated the true cost of that option package.......
  22. I know but I'm usually already in the playlist when I decide that I need to pause so I have to exit, pause, then go back. The more annoying part is when you have live tv paused, watch a recorded show then go back to the playlist it automatically unpauses live TV. In the past I could just hit pause again but now I have to exit, pause and go back. It's just annoying. But we digress...... I agree on having the temp and current artist and song on the home screen. The old Focus feature of having steering wheel button shortcuts to 2 Favorites would also be nice.
