It's just a software upgrade plus the SD card but it's not available yet as a dealer installed option. No hardware changes required.

This is why we keep getting into arguments. Ladybird4 was not implying that ALL of the problems were human error. I do know there are a lot of owners out there who just don't like the touchscreen interface with separate menus. Case in point - when my daughter totalled her 2012 Focus we found a used one at our local dealer with 120 miles on it. An older couple bought it (with MFT), kept it for a week and traded it in because they couldn't figure out the touchscreen. Of course the owner's manuals were still shrink-wrapped and they didn't ask for any help after the salesman showed them how to use it. Like I said before - there are vehicles with big problems, some with no problems, most have minor issues of some kind and there is human error. Those are not mutually exclusive.

That's done with either a spring or a solenoid. But what good does it do just to pop open the hatch by waving your foot? You'd still have to grab it to open it. Hardly seems worth the effort.

Replace the XXXX with your VIN number http://www.inventory.ford.com/services/inventory/WindowSticker.pdf?vin=XXXX

I agree Ford needs to step up and do something for customers. However, this fiasco wasn't due to lack of testing. Testing just uncovered too many bugs that couldn't easily be fixed and they had no backup plan. A free Nav upgrade wouldn't help those who already have nav. A free maintenance contract, extended warranty and/or a rebate on a new Ford vehicle would be appropriate.

A car company who never wrote such complicated software before? Sync never needed a reboot.

2011 Edge Navigation data entry override
akirby replied to shanrie's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Correct. Make sure you have the right city selected. -
Not if you've already made the best deal you can on the new one. Anything above and beyond what the used car mgr wants to pay for the vehicle has to come out of the new car profit. That's why it's better to make your best deal on the new vehicle before adding the trade-in to the mix - that way they can't play games and make you think you're getting a better deal than you really are.
-
It's only worth more if the dealers think they can sell it. If that is a popular vehicle and color and there aren't many in stock you'll get more. If the dealer already has 5 on the lot just like it then he doesn't need it. Understand that the dealer doesn't need your trade-in - they can go to the auction and get all the cars they need (again unless that specific vehicle is in high demand and short supply) so don't blame them for lowballing you. Best you can do is just get several quotes and if all the offers are low then that tells you something. If you don't like the offer then you'll have to sell it yourself.

You can go with a slightly different size - just make sure the overall diameter and/or circumference of the tires are within a few percentage points of each other. If you're looking for max performance there are some good all season high performance tires like the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S.

I think Ford only covers the loaner for the first 12 months of the warranty unless you have the ESP extended warranty. Anything after that probably comes from the dealership. I expect this will be different for Lincolns at some point as they seek to differentiate themselves from normal Ford service.

My Ford Touch New Software Release
akirby replied to tjbron's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
If that is true then this would be a monumental failure given the amount of time they've had to do the rewrite. It would also affect the 2013 vehicles moving to MFT and MLT. I'm still wondering if there isn't some hardware issue at work here because I've also heard reports from beta testers saying it was great. -
Major Upgrade (Rewrite) Details

Same. If you don't have nav now then you won't have it later. -
No - I was referring to Pete's situation referenced earlier. However, FordGuru brings up a good point - did you have the problem diagnosed by the Ford dealer as a bad PCM?
-
Oh, ok. Got it now. Yes, that does sound like a sensor problem. It's probably in the latch itself on the bottom of the rear hatch. Try spraying wd-40.
-
They are correct that it's not covered by the powertrain warranty but the PCM is most definitely covered by the emissions warranty with is 8 yrs/80K miles. I think the key is identifying the PCM as the root cause and the coils as secondary damage. Have you tried calling Ford directly? My guess is this is just a dealer interpretation issue or like Pete's case there is something else going on that we don't know about.

Add nav to a 2011 with myford touch?
akirby replied to tknice's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I was thinking more of an internal identifier (like pcs use MAC addresses sometimes) that users couldn't modify, then the dealer would create the software version tied to your car and load it. You could have a copy to reload it in the future but it wouldn't work on any other vehicle. They could also update Ford's internal database so the next MFT update would also update the Nav software. Or maybe it's easier to just go to Ford's internal database and change the config for that VIN to include Nav and let the dealer reload the entire MFT package including Nav and whatever else needs to be updated to show it has Nav. That would probably be the easiest to implement. -
Add nav to a 2011 with myford touch?
akirby replied to tknice's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
It could be an update that only the dealer could apply - just like they're the only ones who can reprogram an instrument cluster to protect the odometer, etc. Assuming you trust the dealers. Another option would be hard coding the software to the vehicle - either by VIN or serial number or something that the software knows that is tied to that specific vehicle. In that case the software would only work on that vehicle. The more likely reason for them not to offer it would be to force you to buy it when the vehicle is new. -
Which is it? Do you get a Liftgate Ajar message or not? I don't understand what you're saying here.

Add nav to a 2011 with myford touch?
akirby replied to tknice's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Nobody. Ford doesn't provide that capability to the dealers. They have to create the product to sell and a method for dealers (or owners) to install the software. The key is being able to ensure you can only install the software (and reinstall if necessary) if you've purchased it. With factory vehicles that's determined by VIN number. With an aftermarket kit it's not quite that easy. So it's technically possible but the logistics of selling an aftermarket kit haven't been worked out yet by Ford so it's not offered yet. I'm sure it will be at some point. -
You might get into a semantics issue about what "dual exhaust" really means.
-
How do you know it doesn't notice? If there is a sensor it's probably in the latch mechanism.
-
How did Ford mislead anyone? Did they advertise dual exhaust on the 2012s? Or did you make an assumption?

44K is an eternity for some people. I don't remember getting more than 30K out of a set of tires on any vehicle the last 15 years (including the LTX-MS) and that's without any aggressive driving.
