Do I have to hear "Please say a command" every time?
wlepse replied to aggets's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I'll have to try expert but find that it often does its own thing regardless. For the most part I can get nav and audio stuff to work eventually but find the phone to be useless. It never seems to get the right name and oddly enough it just dials the worng number. What is extra perplexing to me is almost all my contacts have more than one number so I would have thought it would confirm which one first. -

Is that all it changes or does it allow you to group commands too? For instance, rather than saying "usb" then say "play artist XXX" can you just say "usb play artist xxx"? I have seeen that inthe menus but never knew what it really changed and since our voice recognition only works about half the time sometimes it is helpful to get the suggestions so you know what it is expecting you do say. -
If you look at the listing pic you'll notice the small flap of fabric has loops on it to attache to the head rests but also has a split so you should be able to recline each section independently. What I didn't get a chance to check out yet is if there are mounts back there that support the retractable section and the flap when you pull it out. Somewhat concerned because even though it says 2011 I don't think my head rests look like that. I am almost positive the center one is much bigger. So I wonder if anything else may have changed from prior models that might make this a no go.

48 Hours to Decide....Help please?
wlepse replied to JayInNorCal's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
I am not trying debate the extent of the issues. What I am simply trying to correct is 11edgelimited's assertion that the problems are user error and that the issues shouldn't afect your decision to buy is just irresponsible. If these cars had hard controls for all the normal stuff (HVAC, radio etc) that still function with a dead MFT I would agree that it is a PITA but mearly an inconvenence. But living without heat when it is 0 degrees out is just not acceptable. Granted this topic has been covered many times in countless threads but the OP has 1 post; he is probably only searching out pricing info, without a heads up on the MFT it is likely he would not know of the issues. In the end it is the OP's decision to make what he wants to do with his money but if he comes here looking for advice we should provide as accurate info as possible. IMHO -
48 Hours to Decide....Help please?

Again I would say you are way off the mark. I am happy for you that yours is functional but if you think only 25-35% are affected I think you are dellusional. Just about every review of a Ford product with MFT has mentioned the bugs and Fords reliability ratings have dropped since its introduction. Again until you experience these issues you will never know the pain others are facing. I was like you at one point (when I had 2.8) only having an occasional hiccup and couldn't relate to those on here having daily issues. Then I "upgraded" to 2.11 and now every day we see something quirky. Just today Ford finally tried to call me, I was driving, phone was paired, MFT indicated call but refused to let me take the call, I couldn't even force it by grabbing the phone. As you mentioned some you can live with other you can't. This is one thing I refuse to acccept...I have integrated hardired handsfree devices in other cars and had several BT devices over the years and never had issues like this. Try having your system reboot over and over for 15 minutes straight and not have access to controlling your temp, radio etc. It just randomly picks something and does it. Could be blaring loud, hot or cold but you can do nothing about it, just hope the system stabilizes. Then come out an hour later and it works like nothing ever happened. It is because of this lack of hard controls for things that I would steer people away from this product until it is proven. Until you experience things like this you can't appreciate the problems peoople are having. -
I was going to try to modify the roll up shade out of my old Subaru but found this on ebay. Looks like it may work pretty good, even has a split to allow independent recline of rear seats. Has anyone tried this or seen it in person?

2011 Edge/MKX My Touch and Sync Problems
wlepse replied to akirby's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
The new thing for our phone is to connect and will alert when a call is received but if you select to answer you can't hear the caller and they can't hear you. You can pick up the phone and force it to speaker but all the time MFT says it is connected and thinks it is functioning. This one comes and goes, you never know when it is going to happen though it does happen 100% of the time we force the MFT to pair with a phone. -

The issues with MFT are most definitely not user error. As Akirby has mentioned in other threads Ford knew there were tons of bugs before it was released and have not been able to fix them. Bugs are not user error, though I will say some bugs may be forced by the way some use the system but again it is not user error. User error doesn't make the nav crash on start up, phones randomly connect/disconnect, USB sometimes recognized sometimes not etc etc. So to Delldell's point if you are not in need of a vehicle now I would hold off to see if the rewrite fixes the issues or if you are willing to take a big bet they fixed it after several tries see if they will give you a better deal. Overall that deal didn't sound like something I would have a hard time passing up. I would also be leary of why they need to do a deal so quickly especially on a 2012. If you really like the car ask if you can put $100 down to hold it to have the wife check it out. Buys you a little time to do a little more research. -
That is their new policy and that is why I posted the info about the credit card above. If you try to take your credit card off file and request paper bills they charge an extra $2/mo and they don't actually remove the CC info. Your best bet is to set a reminder to call before it expires and tell them you want to cancel. Eventually they will offer you significant discounts. I think the common offer is about $77-84/year. But when the time comes check out slickdeals.net and see what others are currently being offered.

Welcome and enjoy the new ride.

Sorry man...don't have any experience with this but did find one person on another forum that mentioned something similar with an older Ford....some suggested he lock and unlock the vehicle with the key then try again. Can't imagine it would do anything but I guess it is a two second test. Hope you get this sorted.

Could be immobilizer and maybe that explains why the alarm was sounded before you put the key in. Maybe someone tried to steal it and it is in some weird state now? Never heard of that before but maybe disconnecting the battery will help clear it. I know one of the suggestions for the MFT issues is to pull the battery cables and touch them together for a few seconds to discharge all energy in the system. Can't see that it would hurt things here...though you may want to try to read codes first.

Major Upgrade (Rewrite) Details

Yeah I wonder if I just have a bad antenna or maybe it is placed poorly. I'll have to do some comparisons with a TomTom unit I have and see which one seems to locate my position more accurately. But I know what you mena about being "offroad" on our trip to South Carolina several sections of I-95 showed us as off road. -
Not positive on this but I think the CEL is independent of the extended MFT displays. But if you don't hear anything I would start looking at fuses for the starter. Until you get that trying to crank her over you'll never know there is anything else.
-
Well the MFT wouldn't keep the car from running. I know that for sure since many times ours doesn't come on. But when you say it doesn't start do you hear anything? Any CEL Lights?

I think I had to choose another destination the last time I got that and it went away. Out of curiosity...is you nav position accurate? I keep meaning to comapre side to side with my portable but my main issue is that the GPS lags 50-150' behind actual position. Can't figure out what it is since traveling south on a road to an intersection it will lag behind actual position but coming to the same intersection going north it does the same. So it doesn't seem to be a map data issue. And if I sit there and wait it doesn't drift to the right location. I think I might have a bad GPS antenna or something. -

Yeah just frustrating. I am happy for the people getting extra out of them but damn I can't even get them to do what they said they would. A simple call back. I really do hope this software fixes the MFT but unfortunately I have a bunch of other things I can't seem to get support for. Certainly not what I was hoping for in my first Ford purchase. -

Wow Ford really sucks. I can't even get them to call me back when they say they are going to. Last Friday I was told I would get a call within 2 days, well no calls a week later. This is so freaking frustrating. Sad part is I really like some aspects of this vehicle but others are just killing me and ruining this experience. Sad to say it isn't just MFT, also realized that TSB 11-11-15 applies to my vehicle even though dealer said noise is normal. So angry. -
Same to you and everyone here. Hope everyones holidays are happy and healthy.

When you say the USB didn't work...how so? It is pretty common with the current version of the MFT software for the display to say that the USB device is not recognized but often will still work. Not saying it is ideal but might just be the way it will work for a few more months until Ford sends out the new software. If it just didn't see that anything was connected it was probably a loose wire from transport...hopefully.

All the responses were from people that have 2011's so no ecoboost, just the standard 3.5l V6. Also the ecoboost is not a 6 it is an inline 4 with a turbo in the Edge, other models do have a 6 cylinder version but not the Edge.

Sorry to hear about the accident, but if the airbags deployed then it will likely be a lot more money to fix than you think. Even if you are concerned about them raising your rates (which they will do somehow even if they claim they don't) you will end up spending a lot more out of pocket by paying on your own. When my wife's car was rear ended a while back it was 18k in damage with no air bags deployed. I would much rather pay a few hundred more a year for a few years than 18k at once.

For anyone interested here is a Corsair 16GB for $8 AR http://slickdeals.net/f/3741026-16GB-CORSAIR-Flash-Voyager-USB-2-0-Flash-Drive-8-AR-with-Free-Shipping

There do seem to be a fair number of these stories...enough that it makes me really want to pick up that extended warranty. Unfortunately they only offer them out to 125k though.

Remote start install Monday
wlepse replied to wlepse's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
No such luck here. Even if the key is in the ON position it still dies.
