  1. Yes, those steering wheel audio controls can be connected to the head unit.
  2. Haz, I appreciate your concern about my wallet. The thing is, I don't give a hoot about this SYNC thing, I haven't used it as long as I have owned that car. I'm only interested in a decent radio/CD player and a rear-view camera. That can't be too expensive or too difficult to install. Cheers, Ed
  3. Merry Christmas to y'all. Another question about this SYNC thing: If I replace the head unit SYNC will be gone, right?
  4. Guys, Thanks for the detailed and subtle advice. I had no idea that a Sync Manual existed. Now I know.
  5. Apparently, my radio does not know that. I heard this message last week and the week before. And it does not answer my question about reporting data to Ford. If Ford servers can contact my radio it stands to reason that my radio can contact Ford, or? Would it help if I replaced the radio with a new head unit?
  6. Hi, I just read in my local newspaper that most modern cars report all kinds of data to their manufacturers and I am wondering if my 2009 Edge does that? It is equipped SYNC powered by Microsoft and once a week I hear a voice from the radio if I'm interested in a car health report I need to push the OK button, which I have never found on my radio (the original one with the 6 CD changer). Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks, Ed
  7. Hi, I'm planning to install a new Pioneer head unit and a rear-view camera in my 2009 Limited. Does anyone have any experience with this camera: eRapta ERT01? I'd appreciate any input you could share. Thanks, Ed
  8. Thanks enigma & akirby, that's what I hoped to hear. Ed
  9. That's a great idea but, since we live in the Texas boondocks, that's probably a long shot.
  10. Great, thanks. However I was hoping to find an oil-change place that offers that blend (other than a Ford dealership).
  11. I believe the recall was issued for certain northern states only, on account of salt usage during winter. Since I'm located in the Austin, TX area, the recall probably didn't involve my vehicle.
  12. Wow that is a lot of information. Is that conventional and synthetic oil blend available at other places than Ford dealerships? My closest Ford place is an 80 mi round trip so I use NTB for oil changes. I usually have oil changes done every 3k mi and I have always used just regular oil. My old 2007 Edge was at 265k miles and the engine was running just fine until it got totaled by a T-bone crash. Checked the coolant and it's dark green, looks kind of dirty, probably needs to be replaced. As to the spark plugs, I did swap them on my 2007 Edge but my current 2009 model has only 46k mi on it, leaves me some time to change them. Thanks for all the info.
  13. I checked at owner.ford.com website and the only recall that popped up was the airbag recall, which I know about. So, looks like there is no tank recall on my vehicle.
  14. I have a 2009 Ltd. Didn't know about the tank recall. Is there any way to find out if the tank has been replaced already? I bought the car just recently and I have not heard from Ford so far re any recall. What other recalls are there?
  15. My wife went with her 2009 Edge to get an oil change and they tried to scare her into high-priced synthetic oil. They told her the 2009 had a fancy engine that needed an synthetic oil change every 2k miles. They even made her to sign a waiver that they couldn't guarantee their work with a regular oil. Is there something to that nonsense?
  16. Guys, I realize this is a pretty old string of posts but, if anyone is still interested, I found a stainless steel rear bumper guard here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/122117023165#vi-ilComp Looks pretty good on my silver 2009 Edge. For what it's worth. Ed
  17. Just looked at it again. The screw drive runs continuously until the lift gate is all the way up or down. Otherwise one could not reverse the movement in mid-air by hitting that rubber button in the lift gate handle. I also removed that cover of the motor housing and it turns out that the motor is located way down in the rear fender and it looks like the adjustment, if there is any, is inside the motor housing. The funny thing is, that after moving the gate several times it appears that it now opens all the way up, give or take half an inch. Go figure! Thanks for all the input. My forehead is slowly healing!
  18. Well, to paraphrase George W. I'll try to remove that cover of the lift gate motor to check what happens.
  19. If the screw drive only starts the process, why do I hear it running until the lift gate is way up? It's no big affair until you hit your forehead on a regular basis.
  20. You're right, a small motor can't do that but a screw drive could.
  21. Maybe not like a garage door but some kind of sensor has to tell this screw drive when to stop.
  22. Sure, you are right, things fail all the time. However, assuming that there is a screw drive shaft that moves the lift gate up and down it has to have some kind of sensors at the end points, similar to those on automatic garage doors, right? If yes, they probably can be adjusted. Or?
  23. Weak lift gate cylinders at 43k miles? Hard to believe.
  24. I did check the manual but it doesn't mention this procedure.
