  1. ^ Yeah, the 2014 Grand Cherokee has certainly caught my eye as well. Very nice improvement over the last gen, especially tech-wise.
  2. ^ Oh, I see. If you upgraded the stereo it certainly lessens the differences in equipment. I don't keep my vehicles long enough to even think about putting a dime into anything aftermarket, save Weathertech floormats.
  3. Fuel mileage for any one person is going to be so varied because it's based on so many different factors. I think it's perfectly reasonable to see a range for these vehicles anywhere from 10 to 30 mpg as no two driving styles, vehicles, atmospheric conditions, fuel quality, locations, etc., etc. will be the same. It's also unreasonable to think that just because you have a 2011 Ford Edge Limited V6 AWD that you will get the same mileage as I do. If you're trying to get better fuel mileage, try checking tire pressures, air filters, make sure you aren't carrying around any unneccessary acoutrements, adjust your acceleration style, speeds, etc. Just my two cents.
  4. Don't forget the upgraded stereo system. That was a big one for me when I was comparing them. In 2011 (in Canada) the SEL lacked the ambient lighting, decent stereo, backup cam, aluminum sill plates and homelink.
  5. Glad to hear I'm not the only one that is a little more particular about his new vehicles. My two vehicles previous to the Edge had only a few kilometres.
  6. I've had my Edge since the summer of '11. There have been no warranty issues to date, nor have I had any issues with the My Ford Touch system. I have consistently achieved over 20 mpg in mixed, but mostly urban driving. I would recommend this vehicle without hesitation. The V6 version, though, as I have no firsthand knowledge of the 4-banger.
  7. I'm betting we will see the concept or maybe the real deal at next year's auto show circuit, similar to how we are seeing the MKC this year. I think it will be a MY 2015 available maybe very late in '14. Look at how slow the new MKZs are rolling out. If we were any closer we would be seeing camo-ed mules and/or concepts. It would be great if they would swap the 3.7 for the 3.5 EB in the Sport for '14. I've been itching to get an EB SUV after experiencing the engine in my sister's Lariat, but the Flex and Explorer Sport are more vehicle than I need.
  8. Sorry... Poor proof reading on my part. I went to the dealership to take the car for a test drive on my own and it had something like 25 km on it. It was just off the truck - I had to take the plastic off the steering wheel. When I brought it back to the dealership it had around 75 on it but when I picked it up two days later it had over 100 additional kilometres on it. I didn't quiz them on it... I just wanted to get out of there. I certainly don't like the idea of someone joyriding around in my brand new car.
  9. Mine added almost 100 km to it from the extended test drive I took it on to two days later. Little excessive. They have a list they use when they test drive and inspect it. Yes, they also remove the plastic from the interior bits and wash it.
  10. I would love to visit the Oakville assembly plant. I live less than two hours from there. I toured the Oshawa GM car plant when I was in high school in the early nineties. An Impala (maybe it was a Regal) on an automatic cart crashed into our 'train' during the tour. Luckily no one was injured.
  11. Me too! But I'm nerdy like that. And I like to be a savvy consumer that knows more than the salesperson. I was at the Toronto Auto Show yesterday and was appalled that the Lincoln people knew so little about the features, colours and options. But they certainly talked a good game. Of course they were better than the guy at the Mercedes display.... That guy was a pure hustler trying to get me to buy one from him when I hadn't even been able to sit inside it!
  12. It's a little late in the day for me to do calculus... But it seems to me that the less unsprung mass the easier job the suspension has to do and the better the ride will be. I wouldn't dream of buying the Sport with our terrible roads. In fact, if I'm going with the MKX I will be sticking with the standard 18s.
  13. What does the weight of a wheel/tire have to do with its ability to absorb road imperfections? In my experience the more sidewall the better the ride quality, to a point of course.
  14. I was thinking about it while driving home yesterday and I don't find myself holding the wheel at the top, so it may not be an issue for me.
  15. Thanks for following up, Joe and Omar. I'll have to give the wood package a closer thought if I decide to go with the MKX. I prefer the lighter wood, but it is not available in the black interior. But I think both might be better than the metallic look although admittedly I have yet to see an MKX interior in person. The nearest Lincoln dealership is an hour away from me.
  16. I'm looking to replace my Edge this year and am giving serious thought to the MKX. I don't see many of them around here compared with the Edge and I like the upgrades the Lincoln has over the Ford as well. Plus the 3.7 is standard which I can get with the 18" wheels as our roads are terrible so I need all the sidewall I can get. I have been looking at the German brands as well but I'm not sure I like the prestige that goes along with the nameplate. Lincoln is somewhere in between. But I digress. I'm happy with the equipment level the Edge offers compared with other vehicles in its class.
  17. I have a similar noise on my 2011... I just tell myself it's just gasoline sloshing around in the tank.
  18. You didn't say where in Canada you were. It's a huge country with vastly variable markets. Check autotrader.ca for comparisons. I'd say if they only want 25K take it and run. That is one HECK of a deal!
  19. Huh? What cars have lacked inside latches in the last twenty years?
  20. Nothing really productive to add but I have to say I feel really bad for the group of you that continue to have issues with MFT and seem to bicker about it here constantly. Maybe it's time to cut your losses and move on to a different vehicle and infotainment system. Personally I will be staying with the current version... The one that came in the mail earlier this year. I don't experience any issues and never have plus I don't see much of value in the newest release. My feeling is it's one of the best systems out there and I sure will miss the functionality if I decide to go with the GLK 350 or FX35 next year instead of the MKX.
  21. ^ I think he's referring to the easy fill as opposed to the funnel. To be honest I'm not all that convinced that the fuel door seal keeps all the dust/dirt out of the filler. I always give mine a good blow before gassing up. With respect to the fuel door not locking.... I think that's an import thing. None of the vehicles I've ever owned had a locking door.... All domestics. My colleague and I were recently talking cars (he bought a '13 Accord Touring - his fourth or fifth Accord) and he simply could not believe my car didn't have a locking fuel door.
  22. The '11 SEL did not come with the camera. It was one of the deciding factors for me in choosing between SEL and the Limited. My last two vehicles had cams and it's one of those things that once you have it you can't live without it.
  23. What's your theory on this? I moved into a new home this summer and I'm finding that the car is considerably warmer in the morning than outside ambient. It's not heated but it's insulated all around, drywalled and my rollup is also insulated. Wonder if corosion will be accelerated in these conditions. Not really a big deal.... 2013 is a new vehicle year for me. It's a tossup right now between Lincoln MKX, Mercedes GLK 350 and the Infiniti EX/FX 37. And with how much my Edge has 'loosened up' in 16 months and 11,000 km the MKX is, sadly, dropping lower on my list. Is it too much to ask to have a vehicle stay tight for more than 7,000 miles? It seems to be a recurring theme with me which is why, for the first time in my life I'm looking at foreign brands! But, I digress....
  24. If we are talking about the same seal (I think we are) mine has been off on the passenger side by a couple of millimetres since day one. I've watched during heavy rains from the outside and it looks like water does bead and head off to the side, even with the slight gap. Whatever water makes it through I'm sure is drained through the internal system. It's just one of those things that I live with - I'm not having them pull the headliner... enough little squeaks and snaps here and there as it is!
