  1. Do you park in a garage? I only drive on average once per week and have for years. Heck, if there was a decent grocery store between my house and office I would drive even less. I have never had any issues with cranking or low battery messages. Two things might influence that and they are that it never gets below freezing in my garage and I don't lock the car so the perimeter alarm is never set.
  2. I can't confirm the 3.7 uses this trans... I know the 3.5 (and my Terrain V6) used the joint venture 6 speed. Check Wikipedia.
  3. Burn something I'm sure.... Like the transmission internals! The 3.7s still use the 6F50, right? The 3.7's output is right at the limit for that trans right out of the box I think. I'm sure the Mustang's RWD trans is probably a bit stouter than ours.
  4. My MKX with the 18" wheels hauls butt! I find the 3.7 to be much more powerful than the 3.5 in my Edge. I would be confident that I could out accelerate a Tribeca! Unless the gigantic wheels cause it to be more sluggish, I would say you might have a problem somewhere.
  5. Couldn't agree more! Hate having to put my ski bag inside but I'm not willing to go without the glass roof.
  6. The press release said the Edge Concept is (don't know how that's possible in a concept) able to unpark itself from tight spaces via remote. Pretty cool times we live in! I wonder if the Edge will get the 2.3 turbo with 275 hp and 300 lb ft. It's still a four banger but 300 lb ft is a huge number!
  7. You do realize they also make the MKX, MKT and Flex at Oakville, right? Do they really have to close the entire plant to retool for one vehicle? Seems counterintuitive to the notion of a flexible assembly plant.
  8. Yes, I think it will always send some power to the back taking off from a stand still. Without the wheels turning it would be hard for it to know if you were on a low traction surface. I've owned a slip-then-grip type system on my 07 GMC Sierra with Autotrac. I felt none of that jerkiness with my Edge last winter. Same as my Terrain. Very smooth apportionment of power. I suppose there's no reason for the system not be preemptive based on weather. Maybe ambient temperature in the winter, humidity and wiper use in the summer.
  9. There is an "Intelligent AWD" readout on one of the DIC panels that indicates which axle is receiving power at any given time. As I understand it, the drive shaft rotates 1:1 with the front transaxle and a clutch in the rear diff controls whether to drive the rear wheels. There are no switches or dials... The system uses various inputs to determine the torque distribution.
  10. I did read an article recently indicating the next gen Edge will debut in the upcoming auto show circuit. I believe LA is the first of the series. I think it's pretty much a given that the next gen Edge will not offer a V6 at all. Fingers crossed on the MKX though. Probably a small sub-3.0L turbo.
  11. Luckily Ford gives you the option of going with the regular key in the Edge, unlike some other brands. Or you could just get a GM SUV and not worry about intelligent access!
  12. Wow that's a new one. I think you make a very weak argument but to each their own I guess. Walking up to your car and unlocking by putting your hand on the handle is very efficient. Walking up to the lift gate with a bunch of parcels and not having to fumble for your key fob is also incredibly convenient. One of the best things to be added to cars since keyless entry IMHO.
  13. I have a mouldy smell as well in my MKX. It's worst immediately on startup and usually goes away. I've never had it happen to any of my previous vehicles but I think it started after I got home one night when it was extremely hot and humid outside and immediately shut the garage door. I had it on recirc so I think some moisture got trapped in the hvac and caused some mildew. When it's hot I usually leave the door up for a while because my garage is so tight but not that night because it was late. Four months old and 2,000 km on it. I researched online and the suggestion is normally Lysol in the outside cowl vent on the passenger (?) side. Of course that won't work with recirc on. Also check to see if the vent tube is clogged. I don't think mine is because there's always a puddle under it on hot days.
  14. If you don't think there's a noticeable difference then the MKX certainly isn't for you. Having owned both, I can say the MKX interior is much different with much nicer materials. Leather on the dash and console, fabric a-pillars, soft touch door sills, fantastic Bridge of Weir leather seats, carpet on the sides of the centre console, etc. Especially when optioned with the light stone (lighter dash and steering wheel) and the wood IMHO. Can't wait to see what the new Black Label is going to get us with the MKX. I would love to have an alcantara headliner!
  15. Greetings fellow Ontarian... Welcome! I bought my MKX in Verona.
  16. Does anyone know of any screen shots of the new home screen? I'm curious to see what the larger corners look like.
  17. ^ you found MFT confusing? I think you better stick to Hyundai! The only thing I like about Uconnect is the responsiveness of the screen. I find it to be overly cartoonish - especially the nav. And the fact you have to 'agree' to the legal mambo jumbo every time you start the vehicle would be an absolute deal breaker for me. I, for one, hope they don't dumb down MFT more than they already have. I love it!
  18. Great big heavy wheels and you wonder why the brakes don't last? You gotta pay if you want to play!
  19. This. I checked tonight.
  20. I could have sworn it was both. Now I'm not so sure!
  21. The auto snow circuit is only a few months away. I'm confident we'll see the new Edge and MKXs then.
  22. How often do you open the roof? My Edge's roof also laboured a bit as you're describing. I figured it was because I only opened it a half a dozen times over the course of the 22 months I owned it. Haven't opened the roof in the MKX yet.
