  1. Recently got my sunroof glass replaced on my 2016 Edge Sport due to a minor incident.

I noticed a clunking/rattling noise coming at speed when it is open, like something is loose, checking around I found that there is some play in the rear brackets and just wanted to confirm from other owners that this is indeed not normal.

See below video I just took.

    Edit:

I expect I need new brackets. Probably the little plastic stops are worn out and the replacement of the glass process made things worse.

On another note, the replacement sunroof glass is the updated "tempered" glass instead of the original laminated, and with the shade open (glass closed) there seems to be more wind noise than before.

  2. I meant to reply earlier, I tried monitoring the oil pressure using ForScan lite (android), these are my observations:

Driving, I did see low oil pressures, as low as 2.9 psi at one point, which seems to have been from when braking/stopping hard.

At idle, or stopped in drive, the oil pressure fluctuates ~2-4 psi only.

Oil pressure is the last graph at the bottom in below screenshots (EOP_PRESS):

Fist screenshot is from while driving.

Second is while idling stopped in drive.

Third is while idling in Park.

What I found fascinating was that I did not lose the previous calibration I did last September. The ECU held the calibration, even though I still had the the warning of "Collision Warning Not Available," unchanged from before I replaced the sensor. My only explanation is that there are several systems working separately and simultaneously to work the cruise control system. Having the correct "0201 and 70" was enough to tie it all together.  And that there is no need to actually add the VIN to the new adaptive cruise control distance sensor. Adding the VIN is either done automatically or not needed.

So calibration was done, however, I'd suggest to redo it since the ABD changed. I don't know whether it affects it or not. Correct Calibration is to ensure it works correctly, so even if it is working, there might be something off. This is only a personal opinion.

For the VIN, I don't know it is required or not, however, for modules that need VIN, it is part of the ABD, so programming the factory ABD will automatically add the VIN to the module. The VIN is actually some the ABD values.

Did you ever find the issue? I have the same ticking/rattle, but it seems to go away when slight pressure is applied to the rolled up sunshade. The noise is less noticeable when the sunshade is at some point between open and closed, and completely gone when the sunshade is fully closed.

Did you try the solution stated in the thread linked above? This one

I have exactly the same problem where everything is programmed, through Forscan everything allowed, but the car only buds and flashes lights. I don't see any Horn Honk and Light item in Bdycm. Will you advise me where to find her?

Where can I find a hood latch switch? I have the same problem that the car only buds and flashes. Thank you

Did you follow all the steps mentioned in the original post?

    Did you replace the RTM?

Did you enable Hood Switch in BCM?

Did you enable remote start in FCIM & SCCM?

Note: your Edge is a EU model, that could also be an issue. It is diesel, right? Auto or Manual? That could also be an issue.

No warnings when I start the car, for the first time since I have had this car. I do really like it. I am glad it's fully functional. I also had a problem with the car starting or turning on accessory mode on it's own, and the battery running down. Replaced the control panel under the center screen, which fixed all that

Even though it is working now, if I remember correctly, there is a "calibration" process that you should do for the sensor to work correctly. I also remember that ForScan has this service capability to initiate the calibration.

  7. This was discussed before here.

    • There are two types of taillights on the Edge (2015+), when lights are off they look the same. But how they illuminate is different:
    • On higher trims, the red outline lights up as the "Taillight", with the brake & turn signal lights are separate/different LEDs. On 2015-2018, the signals are amber.
    • On lower trims, the outer outline is just for show and the taillight is the same as brake lights, only on brakes they illuminate brighter (like traditional older American cars). I am not sure if 2019+ are similar to 2015-2018 where the turn signal is red, utilizing the same LEDs as the brake lights.

    Thanks for the reply.

When I get the the screen in your second picture, I can't select anything. The Cruise Control selection is greyed out and won't let me proceed. I think I need to add my vehicle VIN to the new cruise control distance sensor with Forcan. I am new to Forscan, and can't figure out how to add the VIN.

Any help would be great. Either to add the VIN or delete the adaptive cruise control.

Not being able to select anything, tells me maybe someone changed some configurations (As Built Data), hence why it is greyed out. This is a guess only.

For programming the VIN, it would be easier to just download the factory As-Built Data (ABD) from MotorCraft Service site (link) and then use the restore function in ForScan. Do it for all modules you suspect have been altered, at-least for the CCM, IPC & BCM (Cruise Control, Instrument Cluster & Body Control) modules.

I don't know, I looked for markings on the glass but didn't see any.

On the glass, center of the rear edge from the inside it can be seen. It is supposed to readable from the outside, so on the inside the text will be mirrored (flipped). Attached is what mine states (2016 original), "laminated safety glass".

Newer models stared using "Tempered glass".

Omar302: Good catch on the absent referred-to illustration!

I have edited and revised my original post.

The originally released TSB 23-2338 lacked imagery, however, I checked the Professional Technician System website today and the missing images are now included, which  clarifies the 'new' oil pan and preformed perimeter gasket.

I say 'new', because I find the KT4Z-6675-E oil pan part number on several online sites associated with 2019 Edge-Nautilus & 2019-2023 F-150 2.7L EcoBoost installations, as well as the second image in the TSB comes straight from the Oil Pan Removal and Installation procedure in the 2019-2024 Edge-Nautilus & 2019-2023 F-150 Workshop Manuals.

My guess is that this new version oil pan (KT4Z-6675-E) is for use on all (2015+), however, for the 2015-2017 it would require the new Valve covers, my guess for the PCV Check Valve that is missing from the new oil pans.

    1. Inspect the valve cover design around the ignition coils on both sides. Does the coil location have the extended plastic protective ribbing as shown in red? (Figure 1)

    (1). Yes - proceed to Step 3.

    (2). No - proceed to Step 2.

    2. Replace both valve covers. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-01, Removal and Installation > Valve Cover LH and Valve Cover RH. Proceed to Step 3.

    @Haz

As usual, great updates, thanks for all your contributions.

It's about time they made an updated oil pan with a gasket for the older 2.7s.

I went through the TSB, but I couldn't find the figure 1 in the PDF, is there any attachment to the TSB?

Prior to the last oil change I checked the oil and found that it was about 2 quarts down, which was surprising as there was not indication that it was using oil, ( Leaks, Smoke or Performance).

My doubt would be that it was not filled correctly from the oil change. Did you check it any other time since the oil change? Also, remembers that with these engines you have to wait 15 minutes before checking the oil level to ensure the level is read correctly.

  13. On a 2016 Edge with Panoramic Roof, is it possible to open the Sunroof glass without opening the shade?

Yesterday the sunroof glass broke due to a minor accident, a bus hit the a pole of a parking shade which cause one of the poles fall on the roof and brake the glass, it is a minor incident but will require changing the glass, however, I would like to be able to clean the broken glass pieces before rolling open the shade to ensure no glass shards get inside the sunroof mechanism and causing more damage or tearing up the shade.

One odd thing is my label also shows FWD as the "drive type" even though all the STs were AWD in 2022.  I suppose that engine works in either type of drive, so maybe they simply specify it as compatible for FWD.

Probably means the engine is for FWD based platforms like the Edge with transverse mounted engines, whereas the Bronco which is 4WD, has RWD in the engine label as it is RWD based with longitudinal mounted engines.

Below are links to PDF versions of the SASM DTC Index, which refers to various Pinpoint Tests relating to specific DTCs, as well as Pinpoint Test E relating to Lost Communications With SASM concern.

Pinpoint Test E - Lost Communication With SASM Concern - 2016 Edge Workshop Manual.pdf

I expect your review of the DTC Index and/or Pinpoint Test E may develop a need for additional Pinpoint Test(s) and/or Workshop Manual sections, depending upon the DTC(s) you are seeking to remedy.

Please let me know what additional references you require and I will gladly provide them.

    Good luck!

    Hi Haz,

May I ask, does the 2016 Edge with Adaptive Steering have a different Front Toe alignment procedure? Does it require a scan tool to "perform the steering toe adjustment"? I have the 2015 procedure which doesn't have adaptive steering option.

ForScan does not show me such a setting, but if it is required I'll ask them if they can add it.

  16. It is promising to see an aftermarket solution, however, I would be concerned with the fact that it does not come with a gasket. Meaning you still have to use the RTV gasket and hope it cures/sticks correctly, which is the problem. Only now we don't know if it would stick better or worse with an aluminum pan.

Ford's solution on later 2018+ F-150 (TSB) was an updated plastic oil pan that has a press-in-place gasket. If this was a similar solution I would have been more optimistic.

    1. The shock sensor is NOT part of the factory alarm system or remote start. The factory Alarm system only monitors Doors/Liftgate/Hood opening.
    2. If a VSS (with the shock sensor) is installed correctly, the vehicle will automatically detect it. The VSS itself can have a small jumper cable installed to disable its security features , the jumper is NOT installed by default..
