A 235/65R18 is slightly taller, and skinnier. There are a few winter tires available in that size.

That sucks about the install. Typically these can be installed in 5-10 min. Thanks for the review and pics.

It would be nice to retrofit the 2015+ cargo cover/shade into an earlier model. Has anyone measured the width of the 2015 shade? The options for us aren't very appealing.

OEM Subwoofer enclosure for Base model MKX
kkreit01 replied to darienfalks's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Make sure to beef that plastic OE box up. Add some sound deadener, bedliner, anything to make it more sturdy (add mass). Also seal up all holes. Some even fiberglass around it. Then you should be able to add an aftermarket 8" to your liking -- as long as it's not too deep. -

paino black trim on ford edge and removing the scratches
kkreit01 replied to cmurra6745's topic in 2014 Edge & MKX
Since it's plastic, I'd try Megs PlastX. Start gentle, or you could make it worse. -
When I recently bought my new '14, I was browsing through the brochure of the 2015s. That brochure had the HP of the 3.5 at 280, and the MPG went down -1 from the 2014 versions. I thought that was odd steps in the wrong directions.

Oh my. Hopefully that was the only damage. Good luck. -
Water Damage to SD port NAV out
kkreit01 replied to scoop1030's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Sorry, but I think you are SOL. Water and electronics do not mix well at all. Over time, additional gremlins may occur. You can't really fill your interior with rice, and it would be too late for that. How much water, and how long was the exposure? How long ago did it happen? What got wet? Just the head unit, or your floor? If the fusebox got wet, I'd be worried about other issues. -
As macbwt said, try a mild, dedicated auto upholstery cleaner. You could also try diluted Woolite, or Surf City Dash Away. Dash Away can be found at Walmart. It's an excellent interior cleaner/protectant. It works great on everything (vinyl, cloth, plastic, rubber, leather) -- except shiny chrome or windows.

8" Factory sub midbass replacement
kkreit01 replied to dmozer74's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
You probably need more power going to your new JLs. Swapping the factory sub for a midbass will gain nothing -- as it's still only going to send the same frequencies that your sub had. I'd think about adding an aftermarket amp to power your front speakers, and power a different sub in the stock enclosure (after beefing it up). -
Jeep hacked while on highway.
kkreit01 replied to enigma-2's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
This can happen to any FCA vehicle with UConnect. It could easily happen to our Durango as well. Probably could also happen to any GM OnStar vehicle. -
I use a bit of everything. I used to frequent a couple of detailing forums. Wash - 2 Lowes buckets with grit guards, 2 HD grout sponges, bug sponge. My favorite wash is Duragloss or Megs Gold Class, or Optimum No-Rinse in winter. Interior Cleaner/Protectant - Surf City Garage Dash Away, Big Block, or Black Edge Dry - waterfall method + Absorber XL Sealant - Duragloss 501 mixed 4:1 with Duragloss Polish Bonding Agent, Collinite Insulator Wax 845 (hate the smell) Wax - Duragloss AquaWax Tire Dressing - Surf City Garage Beyond Black, No Touch Original Satin (I hate greasy/glossy tires) Exterior Trim - Megs Ultimate Black, Surf City Garage Black Max Clay - Griot's Garage Clay Lube - ONR diluted to QD strength

Great job, and outcome. I too am not a fan of plastidip. Your process was quite lengthy. I plan to purchase the primed inserts, and have a shop do mine.

Real leather seats or fake "pleather"?
kkreit01 replied to Aurora733's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
To make it more confusing, it's vinyl-coated leather. Explanation here: http://www.goldeagle.com/tips-tools/how-clean-and-care-leather-upholstery -
Last weekend I was finally able to detail my Edge for the first time. While wiping under hood, the thick hood bumper/stop fell off on the passenger's side. I wanted to compare with the driver's side in order to get it back on correctly. I noticed that side didn't have one. Aren't there supposed to be one on each side? These are the thick rubber bumpers -- that go in the larger holes set further back from the front hood edge. They are serrated so you can adjust them. How many do you have? If mine is missing, I will request one from the dealer -- as I'm only 3 weeks into ownership.

I know many love Weathertech, but I would never pay $10 for one. My Dad has one in his Mountaineer. I recently drove it while there was one box in the back. No matter how slow, or how small of corner, that box would slide all over and bang against front, back, side-to-side. It drove us nuts until we stopped. I've always used rubber, or carpet liners. I ordered the Cargo Logic carpet liner (Ford Accessory) for the Edge. I've used one in past Explorers. On my Jeep/Durango, I used Mopar's thick rubber mats. They are like velcro. Nothing will slide.

Tough choice. With it that dark, it almost looks flat black, and like it was always there. Dark grey or black would definitely be more subtle. The silver looks more "custom" or "modified".

That's why I bought the Bushwacker xB protector. I'm very pleased with it.

My other ride is a '14 Durango Limited AWD. The wife drives it daily, but it's really mine. I traded this ('13.5 200 Special Edition) for the Edge (my daily-driver):

^ Thanks. I completed the hardwire last night. I tapped into the rear view mirror from the overhead console. I received and installed the xB rear bumper protector today. Great mod.

Mine will arrive tomorrow.

Thanks all. I removed the front license frame last night. What a pain! They used metal rivets. I had to dremel the heads off. 20% tint is scheduled for Tuesday. Ordered the xB bumper protector today, and put an offer on a cargo mat (ebay). I installed my Passport mount today, and still need to hardwire it (somewhere). I had a nice system in my car, so the audio definitely will need help soon in the Edge.

Hi. I'm a new Edge owner as of last night. I bought a new '14 SEL FWD in Tuxedo Black. I traded a '13 Chrysler 200 (Super) S. I really liked the car. It was pretty quick with the 3.6L. I wanted more room, and something that holds it's value better. I also really like my local Ford dealer. This is our first Edge, but not new to Fords (4 Explorers, Fusion, Freestar, F-150, 2 Mariners, MKZ, etc.). Our current other ride is a '14 Durango Limited AWD. The Edge will be my daily driver. I look forward to doing a lot of reading on here. My first mods will be: front tint, hardwire my radar detector, cargo mat, and painted grille inserts (eventually).
