  1. I cant believe youre upset about your $800.00 hub caps! ab
  2. Easy if you have a 25 yr neighbor with 8” long fingers with an extra knuckle in each one. Seriously getting the bulbs in the housing was harder than mounting the ballast. You will find several good places to mount the ballast then realize the wiring harness is too short. These are in an 08 MKX with projectors. ab
  3. It’s not so the Edge can tow but so that the Edge can be towed behind a motor home. One of many reasons we use a tow dolly. ab
  4. Greetings and welcome Follow this link, pg 5 and start reading about post #86. (sorry about the missing pictures) http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/2759-integrated-blind-spot-mirrors/page__hl__blind__st__80 It gives a good description of getting the glass off and back on. It is easy but be careful, there have been come mirrors broken. ab
  5. It comes down to “who you going to believe?” Someone with a Masters Degree or somebody who found a stick (dip) lying on the ground and stuck it in your motor. I’m wondering if the manufacturing tolerance is as close on a DIP stick as the oil pan. This leads to the next question. Is there anyone out there reading this and thinking “ hhmm I didn’t read the manual, have used 5 quarts in every car I’ve owned and 5 quarts shows FULL in my new Edge.” ab
  6. Greetings and welcome Legally…No there is nothing you can do. Ford says 3500 so that’s what you’re stuck with. Is 3600 loaded or unloaded? Gas weighs about 7 lbs a gallon. Skies, life jackets, fishing poles, diving gear, ice chest, etc weigh A LOT! I’m thinking your lightly loaded 24 footer will weigh as much or more than your Edge and it is not going to like it or survive very long. You didn’t say if you have an all wheel drive. Front wheel drive wouldn’t be my choice for getting any boat out of the water. Sorry for all the negative comments There are a few things you can do to help your Edge survive towing your boat. Does the towing package include a transmission cooler? Even if it does you’ll want a bigger one. Change the transmission fluid before every boating season. Keep the over drive turned off. Good luck ab
  7. Again I encourage you work with your service dept. Tell them you’ll bring it in with it not working and to be ready to leave it running until a tech can work on it. “If it’s not broken, we're very sorry but we can’t fix it.” ab
  8. Wish we had it too, we do a lot of interstate driving. Hate to disagree with you about detectors but. In N Texas cities the police either don’t have instant on or don’t use it. The have enough customers that they don’t need it. They leave it on ALL the time, even when they have some one stopped. Out on the interstates: Texas does have instant on and they use it a little, most of the time they also leave it on. They also have plenty of customers. When they do use the instant on, I see it when they shoot the car a mile (or more) ahead of me and for some reason don’t stop them??? Just a couple of weeks ago instant on was used on me but I was doing 70 in a 70 because I knew he was in the neighborhood. New Mexico usually pass me when I’m doing 80 in a 70, they wave bye bye. Colorado leave theirs on. Utah same. Nevada, not sure didn't get hit by any last month??? Evidently laser is only as good as the steady hand using it. I do have good reflexes or maybe he’s looking for that rice burner doing 80 in a 60??? Usually the laser is under a bridge and the rest of his pack is over the hill waiting for the radio call. Here again they have plenty of customers??? ab
  9. The next time it happens don’t turn it off and don’t switch to normal cruise. Take it to the closest Ford dealer; MAKE sure they DO NOT turn it OFF! You probably want to make it a dedicated day/trip. I sympathize with the ford tech. It doesn’t make the customer happy but “If it’s not broke we can’t fix it.” Good luck ab
  10. We only have 3 complaints about our 08 MKX. 1. Gas tank too small. 2. Plastic hub caps. GONE and we got $500.00 for them. 3. No cargo cover. ab
  11. YEP it’s a shame some dealerships can’t find their a$$ with both hands! We had this same problem a few yrs ago. If Frank Kent Cadillac had known how to re-initialized the moon roof we might still be a GM customer. They replaced it TWO times, pinched a wire, door wouldn’t lock/unlock ETC ETC. All covered by warranty but 3 visits and 5 lost days just because nobody knew to hold the open button in for 10 seconds after the battery was replaced. ab
  12. This is a known problem with a lot of auto AC’s. Our 08 started stinking a few weeks ago. I bought a product called “Frigi-Fresh.” With the AC on you spray it in the air intake by the passenger windshield wiper. Working great, but it’s a temp fix. Will have to do it again and again. Bought it at NAPA. ab
  13. Try the TrueLock/GPS filter for your adaptive cruise. I would start the cruise in my garage (or on a lonely road) with the detector on. When the detector warns you, hit the mute button 3 times. Hopefully it will remember your frequency, block it and ignore the fact that it is moving. If that doesn’t work try Auto No X. I use it when in town, ALL our school busses (we have thousands) use x band. Here’s a good forum. http://www.radardetector.net/forums/escort/ ab
  14. I’m not sure about other radar detectors. But I could quickly teach my Passport 9500ix to ignore the cars frequency. http://www.escortradar.com/passport9500ix-details.php ab
  15. It’s MUCH easer and CHEAPER for the insurance co to write you a check for $11500 than fix it. After all IT IS THEIR MONEY!!! We can't believe this; you actually want SOME of it back. I fell for the “it’s totaled” once… NOT GOING TO DO THAT AGAIN! I ended up with a POS buzz bomb. $11500 will make a nice down payment, unless you owe that much OR MORE on your Edge. A friend took the money, bought the car from the insurance co for a few hundred $’s, then had it repaired. He ended up with a nice car with a reconditioned title. He still has it, it’s a 90 civic (the accident was in 95) with 300K+ miles. ab
  16. Is the motor making ANY UNUSUAL noise? I have a dozen oil changing stories, but the one that might (???) apply to you is this one. My son changed the oil in his new (to him) VW; he filled the filter before installing it, he was a teenager and AND you can't tell a teenager how to do ANYTHING. Good thing I was there when he started it. Apparently by filling the filter it created an air lock and wouldn’t let any oil flow. knock knock hhmm knock knock TURN it off! restart knock knock (not good) knock knock TURN IT OFF NOW!!! I had him remove the filter and pour the oil out. Everything OK after that. Anyway: I would check the oil, and then RECHECK it again (I'm sure you've already done this). Then go get a new filter. Good luck ab
  17. Probably a LEFT FOOT braker. I bet they got REALLY bad gas millage. Our 08 has 47K miles (not km's) and does not need pads or rotors. But I'm hard on the gas and easy on the brakes. ab
  18. Other than it breaking twice, did it help? Everybody on the other end of the conversation really REALLY can't hear us! ab
  19. Programmers… don’t you just luv em. ONLY took them 4 YEARS to find and fix!!! ab
  20. You might want to check the warranty on the mic. If the replacement has been in less than a yr it might be covered. ab
  21. You might try a pm to 07CRUSH and check his post in the classified section. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/5352-parting-out-my-edge/ This is an old listing but he’s still replying in March 2011. The grill is usually the first thing that gets broken in a wreck, but you might get lucky. ab
  22. ebay has one. http://motors.shop.ebay.com/Car-Truck-Parts-/6030/i.html?_nkw=service%20manual&_catref=1&_dmpt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&_fln=1&_mqf=0&_qfkw=1&_trksid=p4506.c0.m273&_myi=2007&Make=Ford&Model=Edge ab
  23. Over the years this or a similar question has come up. What are these little pads in a bag for? etc Some make-ready depts. don’t install them. You could use the search feature but I doubt you’ll find any info about your 2011. You might as well head for your parts dept. When you find the name and part # could you update this for future reference? sorry ab
  24. This feature buggs me TOO!! But my wife KNOWS that all those thousand and thousands of car jackers that live in our neighborhood will IMMEDIATELY jump in the car with us. Do you have an owners manual? You can download one from here. http://www.motorcraftservice.com/vdirs/retail/default.asp?pageid=&gutsid=&kevin=rules Looks like youre NOT going to get the passenger door to UNlock ALL the doors. But the drivers door should Unlock them with autoUNlock ACTIVATED. I copied this from our PDF 08 MKX owners manual. Autolock feature The autolock feature will lock all the doors when: all the doors are closed, the ignition is in the 3 (RUN) position, you shift into any gear putting the vehicle in motion, and the vehicle attains a speed greater than 12 mph (20 km/h) for greater than 2 seconds. The autolock feature repeats when: any door is opened then closed while the ignition is in the 3 (RUN) position and the vehicle speed is 9 mph (15 km/h) or lower, and the vehicle then attains a speed greater than 12 mph (20 km/h) for greater than 2 seconds. Deactivating/activating autolock feature Your vehicle comes with the autolock features activated; there are four methods to enable/disable this feature: Through your authorized dealer, by using a power door unlock/lock procedure, using a keypad procedure (if equipped), or or by using the instrument cluster message center (if equipped). Refer to Message center in the Driver Controls chapter. Note: The autolock feature can be activated/deactivated independently of the autounlock feature. Power door lock switch autolock enable/disable procedure Before starting, ensure the ignition is in the 1 (LOCK) position and all vehicle doors are closed. You must complete Steps 15 within 30 seconds or the procedure will have to be repeated. If the procedure needs to be repeated, wait a minimum of 30 seconds before beginning again. 1. Place the key in the ignition and turn the ignition to the 3 (RUN) position. 2. Press the power door unlock control on the door panel three times. 3. Turn the ignition from the 3 (RUN) position to the 1 (LOCK) position. 4. Press the power door unlock control on the door panel three times. 5. Turn the ignition back to the 3 (RUN) position. The horn will chirp one time to confirm programming mode has been entered and is active. 6. To enable/disable the autolock feature, press the unlock control, then press the lock control. The horn will chirp once if autolock was deactivated or twice (one short and one long chirp) if autolock was activated. 7. Turn the ignition to the 1 (LOCK) position. The horn will chirp once to confirm the procedure is complete. Power door lock switch autounlock enable/disable procedure Before starting, ensure the ignition is in the 1 (LOCK) position and all vehicle doors are closed. The horn will chirp once if autounlock was deactivated or twice (one short and one long chirp) if autounlock was activated. 7. Turn the ignition to the 1 (LOCK) position. The horn will chirp once to confirm the procedure is complete. hope this helps ab
