Ventilated/cooled seats in the 2016 fixed?
TourGuide replied to mjonis's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
I'm looking for a good explanation of how to get the seat back covers unzipped on the 2016 Edge Sport. I ordered one of the exhaust kits but I am finding the direction set leaves me with questions. Can anyone help? -
What's wrong with this picture?

Someone took the privacy out of your privacy windows - or at least that one -
Ventilated/cooled seats in the 2016 fixed?
TourGuide replied to mjonis's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
My seats have this perforation and I can tell everyone conclusively that the perforation doesn't do ANYTHING to assist the problem with the seat backs not cooling properly. Each time the idea of the seat perforations somehow imparting a 'flow through' ventilation I am surprised anew. In order for the perforation to have THAT level of permeability the seat would have to contain all of the supportive characteristics of a hammock. Perforated leather does nothing to help with this problem. -
Yeah - it was - and probably is due for a few parts - don't get me started on the AC system - eesh! I'm not entirely certain it is the coils - but I am suspecting this is the case since the entire plug set only has a couple thousand miles on it - and the dealership we worked with worked pretty hard at troubleshooting out the missing before. RIGHT away they pointed to the aftermarket COPs - which I acknowledged may be part of the problem. I suspect they give everyone the brow-beat treatment when they come in with aftermarket parts, being an OEM shop. To be fair the thing probably DOES need a good induction cleaning, but in most other mechanical respects it is a vehicle in good working order. From what I see Accel - and other aftermarket COPs that I have looked at have one advantage over Motorcraft parts - price.
-
Okay - here is an Accel coil story for you. We bought an 01 Escape that had all 6 COPs replaced with Accels. It was missing quite a bit and throwing CEL codes - so we took it in to the dealership and let them smooth out the idle with a new set of plugs - but 8 months later the missing is back. I think it is probably one or more of those COPs going bad. I'm going to have to replace the COPs and when I do - I'm going to be purchasing the OEM parts. At least those will come with a 24 month unlimited mileage warranty. My next complaint isn't coil related - but it has to do with the amount of crap that has to come off the engine in order to get to the back 3 COPs. I may just end up farming it out - rather than try cobbling it together myself.
-
I generally swallow the cost of Motorcraft parts unless there is a really good record to indicate something is better. Shopping online can ease the pain some.

Heh! You're right about the halogen to HID lecture. Around here - and everywhere probably - I see it as the biggest problem where people will put HID bulbs into a standard reflector lamp housing (talk about getting blinded!) - as opposed to halogen projectors. Even though it isn't perfect - I think the conversion in a projector housing is a better bet. I haven't seen a before and after comparison - so I don't know how the end result compares to the HIDs on my sport.

I'd also add to the bolded text here - also be smart about WHERE you leave things in your car. Leaving items of value - however small - in the open and visible is asking for trouble. Take for example a GPS - how many times have you seen these things stuck to the front window? They are a quick $100+ of value that speaks to a person who is struggling to stay honest.

What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?
TourGuide replied to WWWPerfA_ZN0W's topic in Accessories & Modifications
For the rustproofing I did Ziebart. I've dealt with them for years and always had great luck. The local shop is a winner to deal with. The paint protection tape was 3M I believe. The shop I went with does fantastic work on this - very happy with the result. Lifetime warranty - if it ever yellows or goes bad they will replace it. -
I may have misunderstood the post - so let me try again. US Edges have the choice of having DRLs on or of disabling them through the menus. As akirby said - because you have a Canadian CPO Edge you may need the dealer to disable them - or to enable the functionality of disabling them through the menus. Allow me though to address all of what you asked about in your original post - the triangle LED lights - Yes - US Edges do have those and they are on 24/7 when the car is running. I'm not entirely sure if those accent lights (triangle LEDs) are on all trim levels, or only certain ones. On my Sport - they are there.
-
On my 16 it is possible to disable the DRL through the menu system. You can probably do the same.

I'll add my changes here. I have a 16 Sport and I did the following things to it: 1.) New hidden hitch with trailer wiring. 2.) Rustproofed. 3.) Paint protection film installed on the front bumper, headlights, mirrors, and door sills. -

Gas sloshing around sound

I heard this for the first time the other day. Seemed strange to me too. I guess that means this tank lacks some baffles eh? -
Seven seems really high. Mine has so much power that I really can almost never stretch it's legs - legally. I'd have to take it to the track to really do that. Just by the seat of the pants I can tell you for sure it is WAY faster than 7 to 60. Seven seconds to 60 was roughly where I was when I had my Escape with the 2.0. Are you running it in Drive or S-mode? Either way, when I press down on the gas pedal - this thing has some serious pull.

Ventilated/cooled seats in the 2016 fixed?
TourGuide replied to mjonis's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
I think people have noted here that the TSB doesn't really address the issue - which is that the warm air isn't expelled from the seat back properly. A new blower motor won't fix that issue. The 3D printed exhaust vent is probably the only near term solution right now. I ordered a set, but it hasn't arrived yet. I'll update this post after I install them to let you know how it works. Someone else in either this post or a similar one has said though that this fix returns the seat back operation to approximately 85% of what you get in the seat bottoms. -
Sync 3 2016 upgrade to CarPlay
TourGuide replied to tpm419419's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Hmm - no word on a map update for this system... We also found that around Columbus we were incorrectly directed around some construction zones that were not really problems - they amounted to 'works in progress'. I used my phone and Google Maps for more accurate routing. I am really looking forward to the update to Android Auto. -
Sync 3 2016 upgrade to CarPlay
TourGuide replied to tpm419419's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Yes - I think Ford ought to plan to regularly update SYNC 3 - for sure. I've found the system works well in most circumstances, AND there are certain things like NAV that definitely need ongoing development. I had my 16 out for the first real road trip to VA this past week and found some real flaws that were not present with SYNC2. In two places that I found (Athens, Ohio, and Lexington, VA) the map data did not exist. The system reported an announcement about 'entering an area without map data - proceed with caution'. I know for a fact that SYNC2 worked fine in Lexington previously, but the new system does not work in that area. In both places I discovered this error - we were not talking about new areas, these were well established areas without new construction. That seems to indicate to me that coding needs to be updated. -
Why no towing package offered on Sport Edge 2016?

I'm just going to install a hidden hitch. The receiver on this is the only thing that appears below the bumper valence. -
Accent lighting on lower front bumper
TourGuide replied to TourGuide's topic in 2015+ Edge & MKX Generation II
Thanks for the reply. That was what I suspected. I'm going to have to try turning the daylight running lights off and see if I can get the accent lights to come on. If that doesn't work then my car has a set that isn't working. Interesting side note - 'signature lamp' is mentioned exactly 2 times in the manual - both in the maintenance section. The first time it appears is a mention on how you can't service it yourself, and the second time is a mention on what type of bulb is used in those lights. -
Does this lighting come on only at dusk? I had a 15 Escape with the led accent lighting and it was on all the time - headlights on or not.
-
Wow - sorry to hear about your trouble. I just took delivery of a 16 Sport a few days ago and thankfully - I have none of those issues so far. I will say that as I turn the car off, and open the door I can hear what I think are fans spinning down under the hood. I wouldn't describe any of those sounds as screeching though. Best of luck getting your issues resolved.
