  1. Redline is right around 6000, but actual WOT shift points are variable as they seem to depend on other factors such as vehicle loading and what grade you are accelerating on. I have seen WOT shifts as low as 5500rpms and as high as 6100. The 2.7 appears to actually do a pretty good job all the way to redline where it is generating the full 17lbs of boost from the data logs that I have seen. While it is not peaky like an old school Honda 4-pot, it actually does decent up top compared to the 2.0, 2.3, or 3.5 Ecoboosts. Chris Larsen will have to chime in as he has probably done more data logging than anyone else on these Sports.
  2. That kind of shows you just how much of a learning curve there is when we move to things being made with different materials than traditionally. I think we have also seen threads around broken oil drain plugs on these 2.7's as well from people not knowing that the drain plug must be hand tightened. Just like there was a learning curve in both manufacturing and repair of plastic intake manifolds, these too will take a little time and then be solid just like plastic intake manifolds are now.
  3. I think Chris is starting the process of getting his Sport back to stock as he will not be having it much longer. A shame really as he was instrumental is helping get the tunes for the Sports optimized, particularly with the logging he did and finding that it was better to maintain the stock shift points.
  4. This is a pretty good video. A little too much information but I can imagine utilizing this vendor should I purchase a vehicle with stock Halogens for daily driver use if I end up moving to rural America.
  5. Hopefully you have the failure that results in a code being generated AND stored. Let us know what you end up with. These Edge Sports are pretty amazing from an enthusiastic driving perspective. A good balance between utility and fun.
  6. I should let you guys know that Mobil 1 is super cheap right now at Walmart. I just bought a 5 qt jug of 5w20 extended performance for my father's Fusion for $22.66. It almost seems like they are getting ready to discontinue it in favor of that new Annual Protection Mobil 1 that I have started seeing at Walmart that supposedly protects your engine for 20k miles or one year. That annual protection Mobil 1 is something I would not want to run. In other good news though, Walmart appears to be stocking Mobil 1 oil filters now which are widely considered to be among the best oil filters you can buy. Before, it was only a choice between Bosch, Fram(never use a Fram), or I think Wix.
  7. A hitch is no indication that you have modded your Sport. The factory even rates the Sport to tow up to 2000lbs which I have wondered since the other engines can tow more than that. I wonder if it is a potential cooling issue as to the limitation. Can you post pictures of your setup and which one you went with? I will probably be needing to tow a trailer when I relocate in a month or two. It just depends on how much of my stuff I want to take with me which depends on how far away I am moving as I would like to keep my current house in Cincinnati to come and relax to. If I am taking it all, will probably rent a diesel box truck from Penske.
  8. So far, does it appear to be 2015 Sports having oil leak issues? I don't I have seen 2016's yet. I often worry a bit about this type of stuff as it is looking more and more likely that I will be relocating to a very rural part of the country in a couple months where it could be a couple hours or more to a Ford dealership.
  9. If you visit their webpage, you can download the instructions for how to reflash the PCM. Just remember though that the minute you install their tune, you have to consider your warranty on the powertrain and possibly even drivetrain null and void. You pay to play.
  10. I think they also tune for 91 octane if I saw their site correctly. That would make sense considering that you cannot get anything higher than 91 octane out west. In Alaska, 90 octane is the highest you can get. Towing is probably less power as it is likely tuning back in some of the safety nets that the factory programs in such as running on the rich side to keep cylinder, head, and exhaust temperatures down.
  11. Congrats! Those are some good numbers as you are so close to hitting 12's. Was traction an issue by any chance? If traction wasn't an issue, dropping the pressure may not help and could slow the numbers down.

    Zmax

Zmax and all that other shit on the market is absolute garbage snake oil. You do not want to run any of this stuff as they can cause damage to the emissions system or degrade the oil. The reality is that no matter how good of a marketing job these companies do, you are best off running a high quality oil and filter along with running nothing but a top tier fuel from a station that has a reputation for having fresh fuel. I fill up at Costco as it is top tier certified and I know for a fact that their fuel is fresh. If you need to run an additive, Chevron Techron is considered to be the gold standard as it is safe if not run frequently and is the only additive that has been proven to actually work. The other option if you feel you are experiencing carbon buildup in the combustion chamber or clogged injectors is the BG induction service which Ford dealers offer. This is only safe on non turbo engines though. This issue shouldn't happen though if you run a really good oil and filter + top tier fuel.

    Upgrading ?

Just so you know, when you step into one of these newer Sports with that awesome 2.7 litre Ecoboost and floor the gas for the first time, you will be able to overlook a lot of the other things that don't strike your fancy. If you are the venturous type that plans on molesting the warranty to put in a tune, then you will probably be in for the ride of your life.
  14. Congrats on once again setting a new world record for the Edge Sport. Can't wait to see who is going to break into the 12's first.
  15. You guys who are weary of going that long on a single drain are correct. I have experimented with this issue back in the older days with some of the car clubs I have been with, and the danger is the viscosity change you will see over that period of time. The oil may be just fine, but you do not want to run an oil that is way out of spec viscosity wise in these engines. When testing Amsoil Signature which was rated for upto 35k mile intervals back then, we found that the viscosity was already WAY out of spec by 12k miles. I think I was doing an oil analysis on their 0w30 on my Taurus SHO but the 0w30 was acting like a 10w40 or 15w40 by 12k miles. That would be unacceptable. With our GDI and our GTDI Ecoboosts, the bigger danger comes in the form of oil dilution as the viscosity is going to go in the other direction. Those here who were on another thread complaining about this issue should see just how bad it can get on other GTDI engines out there like the Subaru 2.0 turbos. I tend to do longer drives than most people, but this potential oil dilution issue is why I am sticking with 8k oil change intervals using either Amsoil Signature or Mobil 1 EP.
  16. You will be fine. the early birds who have been having this adaptive steering issue have pretty much helped Ford work out the bugs in getting the fix in. I am a bit worried because your build date is right around my build date which means that I am not in the clear yet. I am at 13k miles now. Just get with your dealer so that they can get the process started. If the wheel has to be replaced, it may take them some time to get it in.
  17. If that was an MKS, then that makes sense. It is basically a heavier and slightly more luxurious SHO. if an MKX was running that fast, I was going to try to get someone here to recruit that person to our forum so we could learn what they did.
  18. That is terrible as you are really missing out. I would have to say that this 2.7 has been Ford's best engine ever until the second generation dual injected 3.5's just came out. What I really like about this 2.7 is that it has a decent top end versus the low rpm torque tuned 2.0 and first gen 3.5's which fall on their face after 4500rpms. It is also a really refined engine as you can tell Ford put a lot of effort into this all new built from scratch design.
  19. The shifting strategy that is going to be least harmful to the transmission and drivetrain is keeping the stock tune. Ford has to warranty this thing and generally engineers their components to have a target life of around 150k miles. That is why you are very likely voiding your warranty when you mess with the stock tune as you are forcing the transmission to work beyond the specs it was originally designed for. Those really hard shifts can also be really hard on the transmission and engine mounts.
  20. The important detail is staying away from those oiled filters. You literally do not want more dirt getting through along with bigger particles like you do with those oiled performance filters. I plan on changing the air filter at my next service around 20k miles and am debating on whether I should try to AFE dry filter or not. I am generally an OEM person though.
  21. Yes, but remember that you are very likely voiding your powertrain and drivetrain warranty. I can see how the Ecoboost guys are willing to take that risk as the power boost is just HUGE. However the gains on a very well optimized n/a engine are going to be relatively small and any gains at the track will be more likely due to a shifting calibration that is being more abusive to the drivetrain. I also do not have a lot of faith with these canned tuners from places like SCT as they often make modifications without even getting a test vehicle onto the dyno. Many of these canned tunes literally advance spark timing and turn up the line pressure. That would be like how back in the older days, we didn't even need those guys as we would install an aftermarket performance shift kit and advance the timing ourselves on the distributor.
  22. I just got back from the rolling hills of rural Eastern Kentucky and averaged 22mpg on my 2016 while maintaining about 72-75mph the entire trip. Only once did the engine have to downshift when ascending a steep grade that even the Ecoboost's flat torque curve couldn't maintain while in 6th. Depending on the terrain where you live, also remember that living around a lot of hills will negatively impact fuel economy. Also remember that wind resistance is very important and whether you are driving into or with the wind makes a big difference. On a windy day while driving to Columbus which is 100 miles away from me, I noticed a 3-4mpg difference going there and back with the difference being whether I was driving into or with the wind. Temperatures also play a factor as cold tires add to rolling resistance and cold fluids exert much more drag on the vehicle's moving parts for longer as it takes longer to warm to normal temperatures. That isn't even factoring things like regional fuel blends. This is why it is nearly impossible to compare fuel economy across a particular vehicle type across the country.
  23. That smell is pretty universal on nearly every car I have owned. Some of that is due to the corrosion resistance stuff on the exhaust and components under the vehicle. That has pretty much disappeared for me now. However that burnt smell has been universal when going on extended WOT runs. It isn't just the cats that get really hot when going WOT as the turbos can also really start glowing and thus start burning off stuff near it.
  24. Do we know what year that MKX is? That is faster than most Taurus SHO's that are running methanol injection systems.
  25. No, the new tune from LMS is not out. According to what Leo posted, it appears that the new LMS tune for the Edge Sport is not a priority project for them right now. I assume they will get to it, but perhaps not as quick as we would like. Alan, I thought your MKX was the Ecoboost and not the 3.7? I didn't even know you could get the Reserve trim level with the base engine.
