  1. It eventually goes away for most people. I lost that smell a few thousand miles ago on my Sport and nearly every Ford I have owned has had that smell initially when going WOT. I have always understood that it is just some of the anti-corrosion coatings burning off from the exhaust manifold/turbo area which does get very hot during WOT runs. I have run either a Corsa or Borla system on many of my cars and have noted that the same smell returns for a while after installation.
  2. Techron is considered to be one of the best additives on the market. It is excellent at cleaning soft and some medium deposits within the combustion chamber. This is why utilizing a top tier fuel is so important as you don't want deposits to get caked to the point of hardness that only a manual cleaning takes care of it. Techron is largely considered to be the "father" of many of these proprietary additive packages that all of the well known brands are using today. I have often wondered how in the world some of these discount and cheap brands manage to sell their non top-tier fuels at or above the price of top tier fuels. I suspect it comes from a public that largely isn't very aware of the need to run a good fuel(many think gas is just gas) combined with the fact that many of those discount stations are often small or independent which means that they don't have access to some of the logistical advantages the big name brands might.
  3. BAMR? I have wondered about buying glass insurance from my dealer except I need to read whether it covers the moonroof as well as the windscreen. I have seen some horror stories of people breaking it after it got hit with debris. Apparently, it is expensive as hell.
  4. You guys are correct. I believe the availability as well as the options packages with regards to the active ratio steering system is different between countries. I have no clue about Europe, but in the US all 2016+ Sports have it standard with it being optional on the Titanium.
  5. Yup. It has gone from hauling people to also hauling ass with the people being lucky enough to come for the ride. You guys are absolutely right. The base product between all the brands are virtually the same as they all come from the same refineries. The difference is in the additive package which differs between the brands. In my area, I believe the refineries are mostly owned by Sunoco and Marathon which are both considered to be very dirty fuels mostly due to their additive packages. Discount fuels usually only contain the minimum amount of additives as federal law requires which has been proven to be nowhere near enough to prevent major drivability problems. Premium usually will have a higher level additive package and sometimes even a different additive package but receiving top tier certification requires that ALL grades of the fuel must meet the standard for engine cleanliness as per their testing protocol. When you look at that list, some of them are no surprise as brands such as Shell and Chevron have always had a reputation for being a really good brand. Others are indeed a surprise as you see some discount brands and chains such as Costco, Kum and Go, as well as some other small chains and coops.
  6. Remember that the well being of your car is our primary concern. It is like choosing to settle for Pabst Blue Ribbon when the good stuff is only a few cents more. We cannot allow a fellow enthusiast to fill their car with the equivalent of PBR.
  7. Give the seats a chance with your butt. At 9300 miles, my seats have broken in nicely and fit my butt like a glove. I have found that Ford sport buckets tend to need at least 5000 miles of seat time to really get comfortable.
  8. I would do anything to be able to buy petrol without all that ethanol crap in it. I have run vehicles that exclusively ran in E85 in the past(My F150 and Ford Escape), but it is a lousy proposition in any non-FFV vehicle. It is even more lousy for those of us with turbo engines. Sadly, it just isn't possible around me. I see benefit in E85 capable vehicles when running E85, but see little benefit for regular engines.
  9. Congrats! It is going to feel good to be back in your car once again. If this ends up being an isolated incident, there really will be no recall type of action. Even then, Alan really explained it well as to what consequences a failing component must present before a recall is even considered by the gubmint overlords. I have had a few lemons before(made the British mistake) and know very well how good it feels to be back in your own car after having spent a lot of time in either a loaner or Enterprise rental that they supply you with. A celebratory WOT run is in order.
  10. Sadly, it is because they are not compensated for providing loaners. Dealers like mine pay out of pocket to provide them for their customers. Your dealer decided that they were not going to provide such a service. Some smaller dealers just cannot afford the expense. Others are just dicks.
  11. Looks like not much has changed since I last saw this thread. Supports my argument that this was likely an isolated problem. It still makes me nervous, but I have really come to love this active steering system the more time I spend negotiating tight garages and side streets.
  12. Top tier is actually a serious issue with these newer high performance turbocharged engines with direct injection. The testing behind top tier status is that a fuel must have enough detergents to be clean enough to meet a certain standard. The problem is that many fuels and most from discount stations do not contain enough additives to prevent drivability affecting deposit formation over time. Many of the discount fuels only use the minimum amount required by federal law which has been proven over and over again with scientific testing by numerous manufacturers to be nowhere near enough to prevent deposit formation that affects drivability. The funny thing is that the gasoline industry actually saw fuel additives DECREASE when the government mandated a minimum level. Top tier has become important because it means that the fuel meets a certain standard for being clean. Costco is a really good one because they are a top tier gas while also offering really good prices. Around me, a non top-tier brand is usually less than 3 cents per gallon cheaper than a top tier brand. That makes it a no brainer. This becomes even more important for these GTDI motors because of the level of precision that is required from the direct fuel injectors.
  13. Congrats! Just remember that as much fun as you are having, these AWD Ecoboosts get even faster and smoother as they break in and loosen up.
  14. Did you notice oil drips on your driveway or did they discover it during routine servicing? I have been curious as you may be the first 2015+ that we know of to have had a PTU leak. Lots of guys on this forum are running very aggressive tunes and have not had any PTU issues so far.
  15. The goodnews for us is that you are one of the first ones to get the fix so I am sure you will keep us updated :D
  16. Of the 3 TSB's, only one of them requires a new steering wheel. The others are a recalibration and something involving the clockwheel spring. I just noticed that the 2017 Super Duties now also come with an optional active steering system like the one we have. The way Ford rolled that new technology out in such a specific manner by offering it only on the Edge Sport, I knew that we were beta testing this new state of the art technology for something much bigger!
  17. Because of my experience with just that, it was one of my first interventions. I pretty much have isolated the noise to the rear hatch after every possible intervention. It is a creaking squeaking type of noise rather than a rattle.
  18. Hey guys, does anyone here have any experience with the worst squeak possible on their 2015+ coming from the rear hatch area? It appears to have popped up the last couple of days and is horrific as you drive over rough roads and bumps on the highway. It is a really high pitched squeak that sounds like plastic or rubber pieces creaking and squeaking as they rub over each other. I have been running a lot of errands and travelling the last few days and tried everything including taking everything out. I can only tell that it appears to be around the rear hatch. When I raise the hatch and jerk it around, I can hear some minor squeaking there as well although I am not certain what is squeaking. If the hatch is closed, I can make some minor squeaking by pushing down on that trim right below the glass that houses all of those fancy LED's for the rear lights. I have absolutely no time to make a trip to the dealer as this is my busy time so I was hoping someone here might have had this happen before so that hopefully I can make a real easy fix.
  19. Those look like a chromed version of the 21's on the new Edge Sports. What size are you going with? I can't wait to see pictures of these.
  20. What's your build date? Since one of the 3 TSB's indicate a recalibration, your particular issue could certainly be just a software issue.
  21. I would recommend against the K&N. These oiled filters have been tested ad-nauseum over the years by various different private entities. They all show that K&N's have really lousy filtering efficiency while also allowing bigger particles into the engine. Some of the tests also show that oiled filters become more restrictive than standard paper filters as they rack up miles and get clogged. The real importance is that you have an engine with tight tolerances which has two turbos which have are oil lubricated and have the tolerances of jet engines. You have to do what you feel comfortable with, but the couple of hp you might gain may not be worth it in the long run. I actually despise the marketing that these companies use as they pretend like you might gain a massive amount of power when the real life tested gains have been only a fraction of what they claim you can gain UP TO.
  22. That is nothing compared to the amount of chrome on the front grill which themselves have gotten HUGE. Trucks have become a status symbol, but I feel like a package should be offered that deletes it. Thankfully, I like how the Edge Sports are pretty low key except for those big honking 21's which still manage to be low key because of the dark grey color.
  23. Come to think of it, the chrome fad is back too. Look at the blinding amount of chrome on these newer pick-em up trucks! Look at the blinding bling on SUV's like the Escalade.
  24. The dealer will have to take a look, but it definitely does not sound normal. It sounds like you would want them to take care of it before we really get into the middle of winter. It almost sounds like a bad sensor, but a deviation that far from normal operation would have triggered some sort of warning light. Considering how many vehicles the 6F55 is in, it certainly is possible that they will put out a dud every now and then. We just started having real winter like temperatures today and I experienced none of what you wrote in the original post other than what would be expected as the engine runs fast and rich for a longer period of time in order to get that all important emissions control system up to temperature.
  25. Exactly, because otherwise our Edge Sports would stop being a sleeper. Most of us want to stay beneath the radar figuratively and literally.
