I too don't understand what you need to ventilate in the spare tire area. There are 4 big air extractors behind the bumper right in that area, they can let plenty of air out. But regardless, the battery saver is smart enough that it won't let the battery run down. If it senses low voltage it will not keep the lights on for the full 10 minutes, it will shut them off much sooner. So if you must leave the cargo door open, just do it and don't worry about the battery.

Nope, not going to work. As soon as you close the door the car is going to chirp. As long as it it's running, the key is not inside and the door closes, you will get the chirp. No way to turn it off, as I mentioned, it's in advance of a federal regulation. Just turn the car off more often. The situation where it gets me though is on a cold morning. When the windows are all frosty, I get in, start it up, turn on the defrosters, then get out to scrap the windows. When I close the door i get the chirp, which can easily wake up my kid who is still sleeping in the front bedroom!

Please ..what fuel type recommended for Edge 2013
Waldo replied to EdgeLimit13's topic in Owner Impressions
Ford has advanced their calibrations recently so that they do take advantage of higher octane, even if they are tuned for 87 as the base. I don't know when that was introduced on the Edge, but I would guess it came with the 2011 retune. So 07-10 Edges probably don't take advantage of 91, but the 2011+ probably does. -
Did a factory Nav unit swap

The overspeed warning is required for Middle East markets. It's just a beep that goes off when you hit a certain speed, I think it's 120kph. It has nothing to do with the Nav system, just about every Ford has the option to turn it on. -
I think you're reaching for the stars. An entire team of engineers spent an entire year just rewriting the software for the MFT without even changing the hardware, how do you expect you can do better in less time? Essentially what you're trying to do is re-write the software to work on Android instead of Windows. I don't think that's a trivial one-man job, especially since you're not likely to have access to all the coding and protocols of all the different modules. And as I pointed out above, MFT isn't just a box, it's an entire network consisting of MANY different modules.

Dingo, you've got it all backwards. A heavier wheel will always have rougher ride than a lighter one all other things being equal. Newton's second law works the other way once the wheel starts to move upwards (which it always will, even in a concave road event). Once that mass is moving upwards, it requires more force to stop it, in other words, it passes more force into the body of the vehicle. But the other major consideration is the vibration of the wheel. A larger mass requires more damping to stop it's natural vibrations after hitting bumps. In practice, that means that the heavier the wheel, the stiffer the dampers are tuned. Given equal dampers, the heavier wheel will always shake more over any given bump. On my Focus I replaced the OE wheels with ones that were 7lbs each lighter, but otherwise the same size and I kept the same tires. There was a dramatic improvement in the ride with the lighter wheels. By the way, gravity pulls a heavy wheel down into a pothole just as fast as it pulls a light wheel. Remember the feather vs ball bearing in a vacuum that we all learned in high school? Then the heavier wheel will hit the bottom of the pothole with more force, which then gets passed back up into the vehicle.

I don't understand what you are trying to accomplish. If you only replace the touchscreen with another touchscreen, what are you hoping to gain? The touchscreen isn't the problem with MFT, it's the software that slows everything down. If you are a software writer, then just jump in, there's no need to change any hardware.

I know this is an old thread, but before we go too far, the chrome-clad wheels on the Edge and MKX are not steel, they are aluminum wheels with plastic covers glued on. They are not significantly lighter than chrome aluminum wheels but they do have better corrosion resistance and they cost much less.

Everything about MFT relies on network communication. Even if you can figure out how to physically install the Nexus,7, you're going to need to write a lot of software code to get everything talking properly. There really is no such thing as a "head unit" in the MFT system anyway. There's the touchscreen, then there's the FCDIM (the capacitive) switches, there's the ACM which is the closest thing to a head unit, then there's a RCCM (to control the climate), the APIM to control the bluetooth/USB stuff, the seat heater modules, the cluster and it's menu system, the GPSM which is the GPS signals, the DSP and amplifier to control the speakers and they all talk to each other with network messages, not simple voltage signals. Which ones are you going to keep and which ones are you going to replace?

TPMS is a federally mandated device. Every new vehicle made since September 2007 (not considered a heavy truck) is required to have them.

When I moved to Michigan back in 2000, it wasn't nearly that complex. I just had to get a recall clearance letter, get some form at the border and went to the SOS and my car Canadian car was registered. But i guess the times have changed. When I moved back to Ontario I did the import on all 4 of my cars and all my other stuff - while getting married to a Mexican citizen and processing all her paperwork as well!
-
Really, you tried to trade in a Canadian car at a US dealership and you DIDN'T MENTION IT?? I mean that would have been the first question out of my mouth, before asking "what's your price?, when can I take delivery?", I would have asked "Will you accept a Canadian registered vehicle as a trade?". Never mind that, how did you even bring it into the US? I'll bet you didn't mention it to the border guard. You can't just bring stuff into the US and sell it. if you got caught doing that you could be up for some serious fines. A vehicle has to be imported to the US before it can be sold - this is a BIG DEAL. By the way I live in Canada but work in the US, so I deal with these kinds of things all the time. I can't ever imagine not mentioning something important like this before the deal was done. While the dealer should have caught this - you need to take responsibility for the fact that you tried to pull a fast one on "the system" and didn't get away with it.

You can't replace a rear quarter panel on an Edge without cutting and welding. That sounds structural to me.

Sounds like it's probably just the stability control working as normal. The system uses solenoids to create brake pressure quickly and those solenoids are loud.

3.5.1 Update tomorow. Advice opinions please
Waldo replied to blockisle9's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Turns out my old phone is no longer compatible with the 3.5.1 update. So if you have an older phone that works with what you have now, make sure you double check that it's still on the compatibility list for the new version. -
When time comes for new SD card for Nav.....
Waldo replied to RJG's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
www.navigation.com/ford There are two important components to a map update. One is the database itself, which is owned by a company like Navteq or Telenav. They need to make money, so you need to buy a license to use their maps, including updates. The second component is the formatting of the data. Ford uses unique (proprietary) formatting of Navteq/telenav data, which is why you won't see generic aftermarket map updates. So what you have is Ford and Navteq each with licensing claims of their own. So they work out a deal between themselves to control the distribution of the updates, which means they can control the price in a monopolistic fashion. I'm sure it could be hacked, but anything not coming from Ford or Navteq is illegal. Of course as noted, all MFT vehicles can just order a free update again, so it's a non-issue for now. -
It could be that your GPS antenna is not working. Have you tried using Sync services? That uses the same GPS antenna but different software, so if it has a problem, then you know it's the GPS. If the nav system isn't getting a reliable GPS signal, it will attempt to calculate where you are based on the distance traveled (this is where tire diameter will make a difference) and the steering wheel angle. That's not a new feature, Ford's nav systems have always done that. Then when it picks up a GPS signal again, it will jump back to where the GPS says you are. By the way if your dealer is giving you snow tires that are not the same diameter as the stock tires, they should be shot! Smaller diameter tires usually mean lower load ratings. If you're running a lower load rating than the OE tires, you are at a much greater risk of a blowout. Never mind that you're "cheating" the mileage - your odometer will end up with fewer miles than you've actually traveled.

How to use Nav. while driving?
Waldo replied to maddwakester's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Have you tried saying "Tampa Bay"? -
As noted above OASIS only tracks warranty work (stuff that's reported directly to Ford). Maintenance stuff is only going to be tracked by the dealership itself. Just like any business, some likely keep very good records for a long time and others won't.

How to use Nav. while driving?
Waldo replied to maddwakester's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
The car might know that you have a passenger, but it still doesn't know that it's the passenger and not the driver who's using the nav system. -
Add nav to a 2011 with myford touch?
Waldo replied to tknice's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
This is not true. You can reprogram all you want, but you need the encrypted "unlocker" to get it to work. Unfortunately Ford is currently not letting that unlocker out to the public or even to dealers. But if you do have it, you can make any non-nav MFT car have fully functional nav, no changing of the APIM is required. -
I've seen factory wheels with less clearance than that. Brakes move up and down, left and right with the wheel. There is no condition where they should ever get closer than they are right now.
-
Well I consider myself a fairly clever engineer, but I can't figure out how a system with only one receiver can ever know where each tire is. Yes they are programmed so in the beginning the system does know which tire is where, but the system does not know when you do a tire rotation. So the display would only show the correct tire pressure between the time it's programmed and the time a tire is moved to a different location, unless you tell the customer they need to reprogram it every time they rotate the tires.
-
The computer knows exactly what tire pressure is in each tire. It doesn't know where that tire is. Ford's system allows you to rotate the tires without having to reprogram them. The downside is you can't be sure where each tire is, thus there's no display.
