Wiring to get keypad lighting to match interior lighting?
ls973800 replied to KingMike's topic in Accessories & Modifications
I don't recall seeing that topic but I've only been around since the middle of July. I am guessing that by "keypad" they mean the pad on the outside of the driver's door. I have this on my 2013 Limited and it lights up at night when I use it. The light from what I recall is white, so maybe there is a way to tap into the ambient light settings to get the same color light to show on the keypad outside. Just a guess -
2011 Sport and Non-sport Brake difference?
ls973800 replied to hehateme2812's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
A good way to find any difference between parts for certain models, engines, etc is to go to Rockauto.com. I just checked a 2011 Ford Edge using both the 3.5 engine and the 3.7 engine. The part numbers for the Ford Motorcraft brake pads and rotors were the same for each engine choice. I didn't cross check the other 20 or so part numbers which were for aftermarket products, but would guess they are the same for each engine/model also. I also use the Rockauto catalog to cross reference part numbers or to figure out what part number fits what vehicle. -
When I was talking to the tire tech at Costco several weeks ago, the topic of rotating tires differently between a FWD and a RWD came up. My RWD F150 had the back tires going straight to the front, and the front Xed to the rear. This was according to the owner's manual. Our other vehicle is FWD and the owner's manual has the front going straight back, and the rear coming to the front and crossing. He said that the drive wheels produce more torque on the tires when first starting off, and it could loosen the belts in the tires. By keeping them on the same side until the next rotation, the belts are able to return to their original positions. I don't know for sure if what he said is accurate, but there are different rotation instructions for the different types of drive system FWD vs RWD. I also found this on another site talking about the rotation and why they should be done in a certain way. Modern radial tires can - and should - be cross rotated. The theory behind the FWD / RWD difference is that when a tire comes off a drive position, it will have a little heel and toe wear. This type of wear can be noisy if the direction of travel is reversed. Keeping the tire on the same side will cause the heel and toe wear to gradually wear away, so that when it is cross rotated, the wear pattern will not cause a noise - or at least minimize it. Do what you want as long as you do it the same way every time, maybe it doesn't matter all that much. I play it safe and follow the owner's manual for the vehicle.

I found the wheels I was looking for, please close or delete this topic.

Go to this link and see how the two tires compare against each other. Quite a big difference in RPM's and speedometer readout, not to mention 2 inches bigger in diameter and just over 6 inches bigger in circumference! http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

I downloaded the update from the SMR site Sunday, and installed it today in my 2013 which was running 3.0. Update took about 40 minutes and it added the temp to the touch screen which never had it until this update. I had to re-sync my phone. Once during one of the file installs, the little window on the dash said "Navigation fault, please see touchscreen" or something to that effect. I never saw any thing on the touch screen except the file update as they were being loaded. Once done, everything seems to be working OK. I did not remove my nav card during the update (never even thought about it until about 30 minutes into the update and saw that message). I was a bit surprised at how long it took. I purchased the Edge in the middle of July and it had the latest updates until this one.

New white 2012 SE but bumper and body paint doesn't match
ls973800 replied to melgriffith's topic in Welcome Forum!
Many different makes and models have the same problem. Some worse than others. Part of the problem is that many times the bumpers (plastic, fiberglass, etc) are painted separately from the rest of the car on the assembly line. The car that does go through the paint booth is metal. The bumper which was painted elsewhere, or even in the same factory, will usually not match the paint color of the car exactly. Really not much you can do about it except watch for it when buying a car and finding one with a similar paint match, or as close as it can get. Some colors are more noticeable than others. -
Finally got the Flex 20's on the wifes' Edge with pics
ls973800 replied to ioldsnut's topic in Wheels & Tires
Wow, those wheels look nice. You didn't need any hub centric rings to mount the Flex wheels? I know the 2011 and up Edges use a smaller hub bore than the 2010 and older, and I thought the Flex wheels had the larger bore opening. I checked eBay after seeing those on your car, but they get a bit too much by the time I would have to add shipping, center caps and TPMS sensors. -
You didn't mention if you are looking for FWD or AWD. There were PTU leaks on the earlier AWD models. I don't know for sure what year they ever corrected that issue.
-
It may have been reported over and over and over, but until just a few posts previous to this one, it was never addressed for the 2013 question of if it added it. It had been repeated many times it added it BACK to 2012 and earlier models, but not that it ADDED it for the FIRST time on the 2013 models. Now there is confirmation that it is also added to the 2013's.

normcloutier, did you have a temp display on the MFT screen before the install of the latest version? Yours being a 2013 also, did it come from the factory with no temp display other then on the dash? I did check the SYNC site, and it is showing Version V3.2 as an update to my 2013. When I check the box to see what's included in this update, there is really no description of what is included or what it does. Really a pretty useless item on their site if they don't at least have it do what it says it is for. Looks like I will be trying the update sometime this weekend. I'll post if it adds or doesn't add the temp display.
-
I understand that up until or including MY 2012, the temp display showed on the center screen along with the clock. I have a 2013 which NEVER showed the temp except on the small right hand screen on the dash. I have the latest version of MFT installed from the factory when my car was built in the later part of April, 2012. I have SYNC Version GEN-2 V3.0.2 according to the SYNC site. I have to find out if this latest update will INSTALL the temp into the big screen on my model, which never had that option to begin with. Guess I'll check over on the other sites to see if this question is addressed. Again, sure would LOVE to have the temp being displayed where it is easy to see.

Ford Plug-N-Play remote starts
ls973800 replied to cjd3's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
You do realize that the engine is cold when you start it remotely just like if you were to start it and drive right away. Now you are letting it sit for 10 minutes at idle starting from a cold engine or so to warm up instead of driving. Sorry, it is a good way to heat the interior or cool it depending on your needs, but in no way is it helping you save gas or get better MPG's. In fact, if you use it often you are probable going to get poorer MPG because of the excessive idling. -
I have been using a Kingston 8GB USB for the last two weeks in my 2013 Edge for some music I downloaded to it. The MFT sometimes finds the Kingston, and some times does not. I can get it to start by using voice commands and it will be OK for a day or two. Perhaps you should try a different USB drive, or a voice command to find the Kingston? I have to try downloading onto a different USB to see if it helps my situation. By the way I would LOVE to have the temperature displayed in the center home screen instead of just in the little window to the right of the steering wheel in the dash. I guess this was one of the "upgrades" to the 2013 version. I'll keep watching to see if there is an update sometime to allow that.

I just tried again by pushing the button Map and I guess I am seeing a weather map. There are little spots of green scattered throughout the map portion. Nothing is moving, and there is no "sweep" of an arm or anything like you see on TV when they show the weather map. I tried expanding the area and all of the green disappeared. If that is the weather map, I guess everyone in the US is enjoying clear, sunny sky's! I get the same result saying "Weather Map" with the first screen showing some green in small areas, and a larger panning out showing nothing. She does say "showing weather map". Oh, and I did pull out the nav card and then re-inserted it. It don't make any difference of what is showing on the map. My movie times, fuel prices, etc do work. I am surprised that it says the sports info is disabled unless in park.
-
I had tried saying "Weather Map" and nothing came up. I also used the touch screen button for "Map" but just saw a clear map with no radar or storms, etc. I panned out to where Issac is and still just saw a clear map. I'll be going out in about an hour and will try pulling the nav card out and reinserting it to see if that helps.

Message sent via PM.

OK. I'll try that tomorrow morning.

Thanks. I have the "latest" version of the MFT/SYNC and don't know how different it is from the 2011 models.. I know there were many updates from the earlier versions. I look forward to see what your dealer says.

I tried getting the weather radar map from Sirius Travel Link to show on my display, but it doesn't. I was driving while my wife tried it, but nothing. I pulled over and put the car in park, nothing. I then applied the E-brake while in park, and still nothing. I panned out on the map to include the area where Issac is but nothing showed. I checked the Sirius services and it shows I am subscribed to the Travel Link, weather, sports, traffic, fuel prices, etc. Any ideas why it's not working or how to get it to work?

Too much "Bling" for me. I am old school (and 60 years old!) and prefer just the silver or alloy 18" wheels.

20" Chrome Clad 2013 Wheels and Tires WTT Trade for 18"
ls973800 replied to ls973800's topic in Classifieds
Stephane, I saw your message on the Edge forum about the 18" chrome clad wheels you would like to trade. Unfortunately, I am not looking to trade for any other chrome clad wheels. I want the silver or alloy 18" wheels. Thank you for replying to my message Sorry you don't have the wheels I am looking for, otherwise it would have been a done deal! Steve -
Just wanted to say I have turned down a few options to trade my wheels because of prices I found for shipping. I was finding $300.00 or more to ship 4 20" wheels and tires. I will be checking the FedEx site using the sizes and weights posted by nickagee9 to see what costs in the Dallas area are. Hopefully it will work out to be cheaper than I found before.

I am planning on replacing my 20's from my 2013 with 18's. The factory tire for the 20's are 245/50/20. The factory size for the 18's are 245/60/18. Using the tire size calculator I've linked to, the tires are almost IDENTICAL in resulting height, RPMs, and speedometer readout! Make sure to enter the security code number into the space provided, even though it might have a line through it. You can try various sizes (up to 4 at one time) to find the combination you are looking for. http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp?action=submit I have been told that if I replace my wheels and tires, as long as the TPMS sensors are the same type, I will not have to have the system relearn the new sensors or have the dealer do any type of reflash. I haven't found any 18" wheels yet, so don't know for sure about the sensors. If you have a 2008 as shown in your signature, you have a different sensor than any models 2011 and newer.

Please read my original post #1 which I edited July 18. If you can arrange shipping both ways I would consider it. I am in 75126 about 25 miles east of Dallas if you wanted to check shipping fees. Thanks for your interest, wish you were in the D/FW area.
