My Ford Touch New Software Release
ls973800 replied to tjbron's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
When I first tried downloading the 3.2.2 update onto a USB, I had all kinds of problems. It turned out that the computer was blocking the download until I checked a box to allow it. Something with my settings and I wasn't seeing the notification box come up asking for downloading permission. The last update I did took about 30 minutes or so. First time I had ever done anything like that, and actually had a few scarey moments when the screen would go black for a minute or two during the update. I did not do any type of reboot or master reset then like I have heard mentioned to make sure you do with this latest update, before and after the install? -
My Ford Touch New Software Release
ls973800 replied to tjbron's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I checked the My Sync site after reading that one of the posters here was notified that an update was available. In the owner preferences I had checked Notify by email when updates are available, but I never received an email. Yesterday I checked the Sync site and it had a notification there that I had an update (running 3.2.2 right now). Since I have Nav, I had to fill out a form in order to have a new SD card sent to me. This was yesterday 1-16-2013 at about 12:15PM. I just got the new A-4 SD card delivered to me today about 45 minutes ago! Just the unopened package containing the A-4 card. No instructions about the new update, no instructions about if I can use the new card without doing the update, etc. I'll wait a bit and see what others who receive the new card do, have the dealer install the update or DIY. I had done the 3.2.2 myself but may just have the dealer do this one. -
Congratulations on ordering your new Edge! I would look into the "free" alarm system a bit closer and make sure you aren't paying for that feature somewhere in the final figures. If push comes to shove, I think you will learn you are not getting it for free from Ford.

Windshield Scratches?
ls973800 replied to funhouse69's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
You live in an area where snow brushes are a much used tool to clean the windows. Perhaps the lot man got overly aggressive when your 2013 was on the lot?- 4 replies

Since you guys have been thru this. #1, does anyone have a copy or can point me to the TSB? Post #24 on this thread has a working link to the TSB.

My 2013 makes no such noise. It is possible for any mechanical item to break at any time so it could be a wheel bearing, brake problem, or axle problem. Bearing noises will sometimes quite down when brakes are applied or when making a turn. I would get it back to a dealer and let them figure it out. Good luck.

Best Sirius Price Available without auto renewal
ls973800 replied to RJG's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Just jumped through hoops with Sirius/XM to renewal my subscription over this past week. My 2013's 6 month free trial expired today. I had called back in July when I first purchased the vehicle and got the free upgrade to the Premiere channel line up (Howard, Playboy, etc) which was offered to new Ford owners. I made a total of 3 phone calls over the last 5 days trying to get a decent price for the Premiere lineup for one year. I have talked to 5 different reps, and got prices of $249.00, $199.00, $149.00, and $125.00. All of the prices included the music royalty fee and my state and local taxes. I told the first 4 reps that those prices were too high and I would just discontinue the service. Today I talked to 1 rep, and she also quoted the prices I posted above. When I told her that none of those were worth the money and to just cancel my subscription which ran out today, she put me on hold for about 5 minutes. She came back and offered me a 6 month Premiere package for a total of $40.06! I had them charge my credit card which I gave them the info for the one time charge. The Sirius/XM user agreement does state that after the 6 months, I would be billed for a 1 year plan at the $199.00 rate. All I have to do is call and cancel at that time to prevent any automatic charges. Those who use a one time only type credit card may be surprised to learn that the user agreement allows Sirius/XM to obtain current credit card info on you and to charge that account for the automatic renewal when the subscription is up. I just make a note on the calender several days in advance of when the account is due. I call and play their games in order to get the best price I can. If they don't offer a price I like, I will just cancel. I have a total of 3 different accounts for 3 different cars and I have had no problems for the last several years getting a "promo" price on any of them when renewal is due. I have never had an automatic charge because I have called before it was due, and have negotiated a new price. Good luck, and if the first few attempts to get a price you like don't work, just hang up and call back in a day or two. Ask to talk to the cancellation department (they are the ones who can offer the "promo" prices) and you should be able to get a decent deal. I was not interested in the addition charge for Travel Link because the weather map has done nothing but crash on my 2013's system. It has been totally useless and I don't want to bother with re-booting or disconnecting battery cables to get it to work for a short time. Sync services offer a weather service for free, so that is what I will use when needed. -
Use this calculator to determine what a different size wheel and tire does to your original stock speedometer reading, tire rpm, etc. You don't want to make a change to anything that deviates more than 3% from original as a rule of thumb. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html Ford Edge stock OEM tire sizes are 235/65/17 245/60/18 245/50/20 265/40/22 Ford Edges can interchange 18 inch wheels and tires to 20 inch with almost no difference at all because of the difference in tire aspects. Compare the stock 18" wheel/tire to the stock 20" wheel/tire using that link and you will see what I mean. You can go from your 17 inch up to 20 inch with no problem. Going to the 22 inch would be too much of a deviation from your stock 17". The wheels themselves have a 5 X 4.5 lug pattern (114.3mm) with an offset of 39 or 40. Although the hub size opening on the 2011-2013 is 63.4mm (2.5 inches) you can use a wheel with a larger opening by using a hub centric ring. These are basically inserts which reduce the larger opening down to the opening size you need.

Headlights ON indicator ?
ls973800 replied to cpufixer1's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
I am going to see what type of tint or mesh I can find for the sensor. Like you said, it will be trial and error but important enough for me to have the lights come on sooner. I am going to be adding the DRL's which one of the members sells but those don't turn on the tail lights. It will be good for the front end, but I still want visibility from the rear also in overcast/dim/cloudy conditions. -
Led Puddle Lights

Thanks for the instructions on the puddle lights. I just found the reply you posted tonight. Thanks again. I already got the lights from the link posted earlier, now I can get them installed. -
Headlights ON indicator ?
ls973800 replied to cpufixer1's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
I have a 2013 Limited with autolamps which I leave on and rain sensor wipers which I leave on. Today I was driving in what started as a light mist and it was quite overcast. The wipers would cycle every 30-40 seconds, but the lights never came on. I hit some heavy rain which caused the wipers to cycle every 10 seconds or so and the lights finally turned on. I didn't like the fact that the lights didn't turn on because of the overcast conditions or that the wipers didn't cycle quick enough for turning the lights on. I wish the autolamps had a sensitivity setting to adjust how dark or dim it really needs to be in order for the lights to come on. There have been times that I have switched the lights on manually because I felt it was too dark or overcast to drive without the lights on and the autolamps had not turned them on yet. I believe I can put something over the sensor to turn them on. I wonder if I could put some type of mesh material over it to allow for quicker turn on in less light but not have them on all the time. -
Are the wheels alloy and chrome plated or are they chrome clad? Well that is a very good question. The seller states in his ad they are factory chrome plated. Even though these are being called OEM wheels, from what Ironpeddler stated the seller said, these wheels were NEVER issued by Ford to an assembly line and installed on any vehicles which left the factory with them. Perhaps there was a change of plans, or a problem with the manufacturing of these new wheels before enough were made for the assembly line. Perhaps the new design just didn't work well on the vehicle. Who knows why. With that said , these could be plated or clad, just have to see what the seller says.

I don't know if you called them yet, but being curious I checked their ads once again. I found this statement in one of their different ads. It sounds like the ones they have listed for the larger bore may have been drilled out by them for a customer who may have backed out of the deal before buying them. "WILL NOT WORK ON 2006-2010 EDGE'S DUE TO CENTER BORE BEING SMALLER STARTING IN 2011, CAN HAVE THE WHEELS DRILLED OUT, CALL FOR MORE INFO IF YOU HAVE 2006-2010" Hope it works out for you, that is a very decent price for the wheels, tires, TPMS, center caps, and free shipping! Heck, you can sell the incorrect sensors on the forum or ebay if you don't have a use for them. That would cover the cost of replacing them with the ones you need.

Add nav to a 2011 with myford touch?
ls973800 replied to tknice's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Just getting caught up on the forum after the holidays and some vacation time and saw your reply. Thanks, I didn't know the turn by turn was an unlimited use part of the Sync system. When I purchased my 2013 the salesman told me I had 20 turn by turn uses per year without being charged. It was not made clear that only operator assisted calls counted towards the 20. I have navigation in my 2013 and really never had a need to try the turn by turn, especially since I thought it would count towards the 20. Today I tried the business search and then a turn by turn for that business. It downloaded everything to my nav map and allowed me to set it as a destination or a favorite. I didn't actually try driving there but it seems like another way to locate shops, stores, etc in addition to the voice search I can perform through the nav system. Heck, with unlimited turn by turn, I could almost have done without my nav system. Not really since I like the map and other features of it, but the turn by turn is a feature I think should be advertised more. Of course, that might mean less sales of units with the nav! I checked my Sync account when I returned home, and am still showing 20 calls available. Thanks for the corrected information. -
Just found these same wheels with different tires and the smaller bore size from the same seller. http://www.ebay.com/itm/20-FORD-EXPLORER-CHROME-WHEELS-TIRES-255-50-20-HANKOOK-SET-4-FACTORY-OEM-/110996902835?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item19d7ee53b3&vxp=mtr I don't know how the bore size on the ones you found can be different and will fit the 2008. It would be worth a call to them if you are interested enough in the wheels and tires.

I looked at that ad you linked to, and something just didn't look right. I searched for the Edge 20" factory wheels, and found this link. http://www.ebay.com/itm/FACTORY-OEM-FORD-EDGE-WHEEL-RIM-20IN-3847-/251206330494?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a7d10687e&vxp=mtr That is what the 20" wheels on my 2013 Edge Limited looked like. The picture of the ones in your link are DIFFERENT and are not, as far as I know, factory issued Edge wheels. With that size bore, they are either off a different Ford model, or are an aftermarket wheel. The newer (2011 and up) Edges have a smaller bore than the 2010 and older. You can not fit a smaller bore onto your older Edge unless you machine the bore or perhaps there are adapters of some sort you could use. The other important issue is the wheel sensors or TPMS. The 2011 and newer models used a different type sensor and frequency than the 2010 and older models. Different mounting system and different control box which operated on a different frequency. If these wheels have 2013 sensors in them as the seller states, you will have to switch them out with different ones in order for them to work with your 2008 system. I think these wheels may be off an Explorer which may have the larger bore opening. Still a good looking wheel and may be worth the extra cost of the sensors if you go for them. Let us know what you decide or figure out. I have talked to Detroit Wheels in the past when I was looking to replace my wheels and they seem to be a pretty good seller.

Yes, I removed the second row headrests from my 2013 Limited within two days of owning it. You will see on the outboard side of each headrest a tab which you push in to raise or lower the headrest. You will need to push this in while pulling the headrest upwards. This will release that side only. On the inboard side post there is another tab, but it does not stick out like the other side. Look closely near the rear of that tab and you will see a small hole, about 1/8 inch in diameter. You might have to push down on the seat material by the base in order to see the hole. You need to push something into that hole (I used a drill bit). It must go into the hole and push the lock mechanism which is inside the round base cover on the other side of the cover. The tab alone does not release the post on that side and in fact just using the drill bit will release it. Pushing straight in with a drill bit about 1 inch will release that lock mechanism and you can pull that side of the headrest up. With both sides released you can pull the headrest off. I didn't remove the center headrest which is attached differently. It is small enough that it doesn't affect my rear vision.

changed trans fluid (drain & fill several times.... will now do every 5k miles at every oil change I am also a believer in changing the oil and filter every 5000 miles, but are you really planning on doing the trans fluid every 5000 miles also? Sounds like serious overkill to me. i plan on every 30000 miles on my 2013 Edge. My 2003 F150 I did at 100000 miles, and it was still shifting like new when I traded it in with 180000 miles.

Since you have posted in your profile a 2013 Limited, you have the chrome clad rims in either 18" or 20". You can check your local Craigslist or better choices on eBay. With a little luck you can find a replacement wheel for around $300.00 or less. I removed and sold my 2013 20" Limited wheels because I knew that eventually I would end up damaging them in one way or another. I found a set of 20" alloy wheels off a Ford Flex and they look very nice. I sold my set of 4 wheels for $1000.00 on Craiglsist to a local owner. Both he and his wife had a Limited. Between the two of them, they had three badly scratched/curb rashed wheels!

No problem, SoonerOne. Hopefully you find the ones you are looking for.

Passenger seat heat not working???
ls973800 replied to xK317Hx's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
I had to have a part repaired/replaced on my F150 which was under a Ford extended warranty. The service writer (who usually are on a sales commision basis) said the part was not covered. I called the Ford warranty department who said it was covered, even if it was a wear and tear item. I ended up getting the repair/replacement covered. As for the service manual being too expensive, I would think buying some parts which weren't needed or weren't correct parts was many more times the cost of a service manual. The service manual will save you money in the long (or short run in this case). -
No, that is not the stud that is used on my 2013. If you look at your picture after expanding it to full size on these boards, go to the right from where your finger is towards the front of the car about an inch or two in front of the black bracket. Go straight up to the top of the picture above the black wire cable. You can see a blurry stud in your picture, this is the one my is attached to. In your picture you can also see part of the head of a bolt that looks like it is about half covered by the black cable to the right of the stud I am talking about. So find that bolt head, go up to the top of the picture, and then go left a little and you will see the blurry stud. Sorry, can't take a picture at this time.

One important correction there: 2011+ Edge's have a 63.4mm hub, the 70.5mm is for the previous years. You beat me to it, Scorpio! Earlier hubs (2010 and older) can fit the 2011 and newer with the use of hub centric rings. Their hub bore is 70.5mm and the hub centric rings will allow them to fit the smaller bore of the 2011's and newer. Jersey, I put some Flex wheels on my 2013 but they won't fit your 2009 because of the smaller bore. Check the classified ads because there are several sets of 17's and 18's being sold. My 18's I have listed wont fit yours because of the bore size, but there might be other sellers with the correct bore if you wanted to stay with the factory wheels.

well, you made me go out an look on my 2013. Where you are standing when you took your pictures, look straight down and you will see the engine mount which is a silver color. Look towards the engine and you will see a black bracket. To the right and just up a little from that black bracket is a stud sticking out with a nut on it. My wire is attached to that stud with that nut. If your wire is off, I bet the nut may not be there anymore. The stud is towards the front of the car looking to the right of the black bracket when standing on the passenger side by the anti-freeze bottle. I don't have any idea what that component does, but I would connect it up as soon as possible.
