  1. Reaching a settlement out of court, does not constitute a "Win". Perhaps she got enough money back to pay the lawyers. It may have been easier for the manufacturer to settle than try to prove she was driving in the wrong gear or had the O/D off. YMMV. I wonder if she was willing to let the EPA take her vehicle and run their MPG tests with it. I bet they would get closer to the stated MPG than what she said she was getting .
  2. Welcome - I know you will enjoy your Edge - and this forum. Not too much politics or bench racing. Just good contributors exploring all the aspects of Edge and MKX ownership. :happy feet: :happy feet:
  3. Any Ford or L/M service department can run an "OASIS" on your vin. If you have a concern, they can code it into the request and any tsb's or service notifications that cover thast area of concern will also be noted on the OASIS report. Ford or dealership personnel can do the reports but don't expect to call a dealership and request one - go by and ask. While it is up on the screen, they can also look at the warranty history - good to know if you bought used. :shades:
  4. I live in the Atlanta area and have a black Edge and a black MKX. Both A/C units are good for cooling down a very hot interior. We open the windows on start up to expell the super hot air and within a minute we have cooled the interior down enough to take some of the initial load off the A/C. Then it cools down quite well for a single evaporator system. You may be used to an SUV with two evaporator/fan systems or a vehicle with a smaller interior compartment. The Edge will not cool down the large interior cavity like two evaporators would, but we have no complaints. It would not be worth the additional cost, or loss of interior room, to put another evaporator system in the vehicle. :shades:
  5. You cannot get the best MPG until you get into 6th gear - about 44 mph? If your driving is 30 mph avg, you are a candidate for a Hybrid. Make mine a Mariner please. :happy feet:
  6. Call the customer assistance center number and they will transmit the concern to the dealership. The customer relations manager at the dealership will bring it up to dealership management and a "process improvement" will be instituted (train the lube guy -or gal). Just don't burn them on a survey (that is called burning a bridge.)
  7. 2007 MKX with 6,500 miles. Just drove 710 miles and got 26.8 MPG. Speed limit with speed control. Before we hit the mountains, it was 28.9 MPG. Turned off the speed control going up hills and kept the RPM's under 2,500. One of the rules is keep it in 6th gear as much as possible. In town, we are lucky to average over 20 MPG, but most drives are less than 3 miles. Brakes are the enemy - dead loss. Anticipate lights and try to avoid stopping. Don't worry about the fools behind you - you are helping them save fuel also.
  8. Take it back to the place that did the alignment to see if they can fix it. Show them the TSB. They may be able to do it for less than the dealership. It is not covered by the Ford warranty. 12/12. The presence of a TSB does not always imply that Ford will pay for the repair. Just tells the tech how to fix it.
  9. "Unless otherwise provided by state or local laws or regulation: In states where dealers are not permitted to charge as much as $75 for doc fees, dealers would be capped at the lesser amount as provided by the state. In states that permitted more than $75, dealers would be permitted to charge the Plan customer $75. In states that permitted more than $75 and also required that all customers be charged the same amount, dealers may charge the Plan customer $75 and indicate any additional fees have been paid by Ford Motor Company as part of the AXZD-Plan Program dealer reimbursement on the buyer's order." Something smells?????
  10. As loosey-goosey as X-Plan is, you never know. I would think salespeople are already tired of "Mini's". Post in the morning if you can get into C&I.
  11. The rumor is employee pricing (A-Plan) on most vehicles July 1. Good for you - nothing for me (since I get it anyway!). The real question is -- will they eliminate some of the current incentives to fund the "employee Pricing"? We will know tomorrow.
  12. Oops, sorry, I presumed anyone interested had been following the ongoing discussion re: synthetics in fresh engines. As has been explained elsewhere, engines that come with full synthetic oil from the factory have a different honing process on the cylinder walls than our engines. I have personal work experience with Ford Engineering and have offered their recommendations, only to have them challenged by corner mechanics, so I posted when I saw the Govt. study. So, regardless of what GM says for the Corvette, it is not OK to put full synthetic oil in our vehicles before 3,000 miles. :shades:
  13. Grey quotes himself as he just found a Canadian Government study of lubricants that includes the following: "The Alberta Engine Oil Study - Lubricants Suitable for use in Southern & Central Alberta Caution! We do not recommend the use of VHVI Synthetics during the 10,000-km new engine break-in period – reduced friction will certainly delay ring seating, or (worst) prevent ring seating from properly occurring (i.e. permanent tilted rings). " They are even more cautious about not putting full sunthetics in an engine until the rings have seated ( as much as 10,000 km). That suggests more like 5,000 to 7,500 miles or the first regularly scheduled oil change. So if you don't believe what the Ford engineers say, google the study for yourself.
  14. Welcome Clint Please join in the discussions and share your experiences and perceptions. We have a good forum going here with very few trolls and bench racers. Look forward to your participation. Grey (with the Black Edge and Black MKX) :happy feet: :happy feet:
  15. From the dealer warranty manual: "Occasionally new vehicles (usually trucks) are driven from assembly plants to dealers or to body companies and then to dealers or other locations. Whoever delivers the vehicle should complete Form FCS-900 to extend the mileage warranty. The extension is equal to the actual number of miles accumulated before delivery up to a maximum of 4,000 miles." The revised warranty start mileage will be recorded and can be seen in OASIS (the service department info sheet on each vehicle). So, folks, there is a procedure - however, it is rarely done. So, hang on to the sales documents that show the mileage at delivery, in the very rare instance that you should have an issue that occurs post stated warranty coverage, but within the miles you have had the vehicle. Any field manager would likely approve the repair regardless, if you are that close to the warranty cut off (unless the dealership says they don't want to extend consideration to you based on their prior experience with you or the vehicle). :shades:
  16. Good Job! Thanks for posting the pics. I hope that encourages others to tackle some of the less complicated jobs - and to share their ecperience. That's the stuff that makes this a great forum :happy feet: :happy feet:
  17. Another pseudo expert arises. Vehicles from the factory with full synthetic oil have different cylinder honing than our Ford engines. If you replace with a full synthetic before the rings seat, they may become barrell shaped and the cylinder walls may glaze. Do whatever you want to do, just don't try to come off as a reliable source of engine lubrication insight. Somebody might believe you.
  18. Just don't put a full synthetic in your vehicle before 3,000 miles. Let the rings seat first.
  19. The 2009 Nav system in the Escape permits you to watch a dvd while parked, but turns off the video screen when the vehicle is put into gear (you can still listen to the sound if you wish). I wish they had a co-pilot feature so you could permit someone from the passenger seat to program the Nav while the vehicle was in motion.
  20. dckotwicki - it doesn't sound like an oil specification issue. 0w20 and 5w20 are very close in cSt value at 75 degrees. Are you sure they are replacing the filter? Sounds more like restricted oil flow to the valve train. vinnieg - unless you are racing your vehicle or constantly pulling a heavy trailer, you will never need a 30 weight oil additive package. 5w20 is designed to operate at 212 degrees with a cSt value of 8.8 or so, just what our engines are designed for. The 5w30 oils will not meet the Ford spec. so don't even consider it.
  21. I thought it came through the back cushion, but it does not. What I feel is air movement from the cushion moving up my lower back. Seems to give cooling relief in that area, so I guess it is cool enough for us.
  22. Exceded band width and or storage. Too much quoting and too many lengthy signatures with pictures and listing of all vehicles ever owned or dreamed of.
  23. Ya done good! :happy feet: :happy feet:
  24. I have them on my wife's MKX and they look great. Can't beat chrome and black. They are certainly not plastic! I've had no problems, nor do I expect to. :shades:
