  1. Seems this thread is dead, but I want to clear something up, re the postition I took in my previous replies. I had missed that the OP's purchase was an A-plan price, and had I realized that, I would have agreed with Haz, and the others. This was not a routine trade-in, and the dealer cannot pay the additional costs to accept a foreign-registered vehicle, as that would be in violation of the agreement with Ford. I am sorry for jumping in with my .02, and in re-reading this thread, I agree that those costs are MattyP's responsibility.
  2. I can agree with you that it is a stylin B/A look, but there are a couple things. I don't care for the 20" wheels; like the look of 18's fine, and I believe it rides and handles better with the 18's, and there is a better selection of tires, and at lower cost, when the time comes. Have been thinking about the Limited with standard wheels, but then again, the 18 wheels on a Limited are just painted. For that money, I want the polished wheels, like they put on the MKX. Little more room on the back of a Exp, for when taking stuff to the kids house, or to the beach. Decisions, decisions.
  3. So factory-installed towing package nearly doubles the towing capacity, as it includes more than the hitch receiver and wiring. Definitely worth the modest cost of that option, when buying new.
  4. To me, the Edge looks like a manly vehicle, but every time I see a woman driving one, she doesn't look out of place. So I'd say Ford hit a home run on the lines of the Edge, making it appealing to both genders, and certainly, opening up their market by doing so.
  5. Haz, how do you know all this stuff. Every tme I come on here, I learn something noew. Thanks for posting that link. WTG.
  6. I MUCH prefer the 18" wheels, and really wish the polished 18's were available on the Edge Limited. But if I could find a deal like Haz made, on an MKX equipped just the same, I would be all over it. But I haven't found any dealers willing to deal on an MKX.
  7. You make a pretty good case to consider the Hyundae, but I would still pick Ford, for the best overall quality, and resale. I also give points to Ford for making the amazing comeback from when Ford stock was bottomed out at about $1/share, and yet they took no bailout. Have you check Ford's stock prices lately? That's a good indicator of investor confidence in a company, and where they are headed. But back to the choices; I would say, if nothing else matters, just go for the one that you would be most pleased with seeing in your driveway. Good luck with your chice.
  8. Congratulations on the new job, on keeping the Edge, and on your soon to be addition to your family!
  9. Thanks for the heads-up. I was just looking at Husky mats and mudguards on the website last night. Will keep it in mind, when I get my ride.
  10. As one who is almost ready to made a deal on a new Edge, I am a but concerned about this. Does it seem to be a fairly common problem among Edge owners? That would drive me nuts, and wish I kept my old Jeep (which STILL drives like new). I hope you get this resolved soon. Please post back with any new info.
  11. This discussion may lean me to spending more money as I am about to order a new Edge (or Exp?), and wasn;t even going to get remote start. But the more I thought about it, I decided that it could be very handy at times. NOW I need to decided which RS I am going to want. Oh.. if only that lotto ticket woulda paid off :happy feet:
  12. Wow. I'm impressed. Not sure I would have wanted to take my Jeep up that.
  13. I've been on the fence for 6 months or so, deciding what I want to replace my old Jeep with. I was leaning toward another one, but the Edge keeps haunting me, and I do like the looks of the Explorer as well. Anyways, getting closer to a decision, and I have reuled out everything else out there. So wich me luck, and I'll keep ya all posted.
  14. Congrats on your selection, and the best of luck. This is a decision I am also facing, as I like to look of both the Edge and Explorer, and whatever I decide to buy, it will be replacing a somewhat smaller 01 Jeep Cherokee (Classic, not the Grand Cherokee). I may like to add'l room of the Exp, but haven't made up my mind. WIllbe back at the dealer later n the week, looking at them some more.
  15. Haz, I was able to see your personal messenger text, but only after typing a lengthy reply, I found out I cannot send messages do to not having 20 posts. I saved my reply to you, and will try to send it via email, if that is possible..
  16. Don't know if I should start my owne thread for this question... just tell me and I will. I am following this and a few other threads re pricing/discounts, as I am very close to making a decision on a new Edge (vs a new JeepGC). Ford sent me a brochure with $750 private cash voucher, end of last year, but I cannot find it. Called Ford Marketing this AM, and asked for confirmation that they show it in their records. She told me that offer exoired, and presently there are no offers, other than the 0% financing OR the TV ad discount incentives. I have a Freightliner Corp control number which will get me -1% below invoice on Jeep/Chrysler products, plus any other incentives that are available, but nothing that Ford recognized (e.g. Apple Corp shareholder, but not employee; Winnebago "Owner/customer-for-life", but not employee). Can't seem to find anything that will get me close to the deal I can get on a Jeep.
  17. I don't have any skin in this game, but I still cannot see how the dealership completed ALL of the necessary paperwork for the sale of a new vehicle, with trade-in (tradein paperwork/documentation/title/financing), and most likely they removed the Canadian plate, and it never occurred to any of them that this might be a Canadian-owned vehicle until the buyer was actually leaving with the new one? DIdn't they have his title in their posession, and check it for leins, and not notice anything odd? Is this the first time a Canadian bought/traded a vehicle there? You'd think that would be one of the first things they would check. Maybe if they were in Oklahoma, they might be caught off guard.
  18. Seems like hostility toward someone who may have been duped by the salesman, anxious to close a sale. How could the dealer possibly have taken his vehicle in trade without their appraisal spotting the Canadian reg; without their sales manager and administrative office noticing the Canadian reg and without checking the vin#, which also woulod have come up as Canadian? Maybe that salesman thought he'd get the customer caught in a position of having no alternative but to cough up more money. I think the guy should be given some slack here, and if it costs the dealer another $500 and some more paperwork, that's a lesson for him to learn. Too many salesman will tell a customer anything that it takes, to get a signed contract. He's the one that needs to have his azz kicked.
  19. Just my .02, but I think you were had. 1. Check to see the manufacture date code on all of those tires. 2. New tires, any manufacturer, are out of round, right out of the mould, and may not even be exactly the same diameter. 3. The loaded radius of your tires with 20k mi is probably not 3/32" less than the new tire. I would have to see that the tire pressures were the same, and see how he measured it. 4. As someone else said, you could have bought one tire, and had it shaved to the diameter of the others. That being said, you now have new tires, so move on. I do hope that you did not pay a disposal fee to the dealer for 3 of those tires. His method of disposal will no doubt, be to sell them to someone as used tires with many miles left on them. As I said; just my 2 cents.
  20. Just to offer an explanation of why someone might want the door to lock immediately, as opposed to 12mph: It is not uncommon for a perp to get into a vehicle occupied by a lone woman, just as she is beginning to back out of aparking space at the mall. Yes, she could immediately hit the lock button, or, OTOH, the autolock system could do it for her. 12mph is just too late to be useful.
  21. I haven't tried this, but I have an idea which might help. Repairs to gelcoat, the finish on boats, are done this way, so it might be worth a try. Apply enough layers of touch-up so that the surface is raised above the surrounding paint, after it is completely dry. With a new, single-edge razor blade, carefully shave the repair down to flush. Then use a polish (not a wax), to bring up the shine, then a coat of wax. I'm thinking that this should result in an almost unnoticeable repair to rock chips.
  22. You may be right, but I don't like playing russian roulette with a 100-round revolver. BTW, I did go to the dealer yesterday, and drove the Edge Ltd that I was going to buy. It drove very nice (my first Edge test drive). But I still drove away in my Jeep.
  23. I just spent the last few hours reading these 31 pages, and I'm bummed, (do people still say that?) about this problem still rearing it's ugly head for 4 consecutive years. But I'm glad I searched, and found this forum. I was going to the dealer tomorrow morning, to close the deal on 'just the right' Edge Limited, for which I have been searching for weeks. This seems to be a crap shoot, not only on whether any particular vehicle will present the problem, but also whether it will be permanently corrected. As much as I have been wanting to buy one, I think it is not worth the potential hassle, especially since I would be setting it up for flat-towing behind a motorhome. If I were to have a leak, it might be too easy for a dealer to blame the problem on me for not following Fords' flat-towing procedure. Sine I would be pulling the Edge as we are traveling, loss of use for repairs would be more than inconvenient. Sadly, I think I will pass on this, and keep the Jeep. I hope that Ford gets this figured out; not how to "repair it", but how to prevent it in the first place. Good luck to you all.
