  1. all the cars i owned during the 30 years i lived in europe had one single rear fog light on the driver's side. a few brands of cars had two but the vast majority had one. it has been more than 10 years since i left, so things could be different now.
  2. but don't forget that the toe opens up when the car is going forward. measuring the static value of the toe in/out won't tell you what's happening at 50 MPH. worn suspension parts could allow too much play.
  3. i just grabbed a random pic off the web since i don't have one of my car yet. i would guess that the sensor, which looks more or less like a coax cable for tv, is around 8" long. it is mounted on the top of the inside surface of the black plastic. if you reach up there with your palm facing you and then run your fingertips back and forth (don't cut yourself) you can probably find them. mine starts probably around 6" or so from the edge of the hitch and runs 8 or so inches as i mentioned above. if you're hitting the hitch, you're too close to center. that's what i was doing wrong. just move to the outside another 6-8 inches or so. once i knew where they were, i've been 100% in getting the liftgate to open. good luck.
  4. the rear foglights in europe are red and they are normally the same wattage as the brake lights if i recall correctly. don't know if the lenses and/or reflectors are made to concentrate the light. if you've ever seen a formula 1 race in the rain, they have them on and flashing. one time i politely told some d-bag that he was driving with his rear foglight on to which he replied that he liked it that way. i was so pissed off i took the crowbar from my trunk and smashed the a-hole's rear foglight 'cause i liked it that way.
  5. just out of curiosity, why would you want this? is it foggy in your area very often? if you want to use them in the rain, please don't. it's absolutely blinding to the people behind. i lived in europe for 30 years and there were tons of idiots who turned them on in the rain. caused horrendous glare.
  6. too much camber is not necessarily the cause of inside edge wear. the problem is actually toe out when driving which can happen when you have either a bad alignment or worn parts that allow the tires to go toe-out when driving. the natural tendency of wheels is to spread open at speed. you may have a static -0.6 frt/-1.1 rear but when driving it will always be greater. if this were my car, that's where i'd look.
  7. can you manually push the back hatch higher? it can be set to stop electronically at any height. just position it where you want it and then hold the button on the hatch until it beeps. that should set the height.
  8. not really answering your question but why would you want to do that? i copied all of my hundreds of CDs onto a hard disk and i put them on a USB thumb drive and i have that in my edge. if you copy to FLAC format, it's as good as CD quality. much better than mp3. you don't have to carry around loads of CDs, you can access any song by talking to Sync; "play song stairway to heaven" and it's done. i would never go back to handling CDs. just my two cents.
  9. okay, i solved the puzzle. when i was first looking, i was looking for an optical sensor which by definition needs a line of sight to "see" whatever it is that it's detecting. when i started looking for these cables, i just kept looking for something that could "see" the foot but of course, duh, an electrical field doesn't need line of sight. since plastic is invisible to an electric field, i figured that these sensors would likely be mounted on the bottom inside surface of the rear fascia. so i put my hand up there and found them. when i was kicking until now was immediately to either side of the tow hitch. now i know where to kick which is a bit farther to the outside and in the few tries that i had, it was 100% so hopefully it will work more consistently from now on. thanks @1004ron . it's great to have a sounding board to bounce ideas and questions off of. i appreciate your input.
  10. thanks for that link. it was one of the sources i found but despite looking at those pictures and lying under my car, i simply cannot see anything like that. let me check to make sure my assumptions are correct: - the second, third, and fourth pictures are of the inside of the rear bumper. - those two "cables" that kind of look like coax cables running across the bumper in photo 3 and are tied back with zip-ties in photo 2 are the sensors - each sensor on my edge is in two pieces since i have a factory hitch so they would be a short piece of that cable on each side and connected with a wire. if these above assumptions are correct, then i am stumped. i'll try and take some pictures of my setup and post them here this afternoon. thanks for your help. [edit to add:] to me it seems obvious that these sensors are not optical whereas i think the 2016 ones were. do these ones use some kind of electrical field? would one cable be a transmitter and the other a receiver, hence the need for two?
  11. i had a '16 Ti with the hands free liftgate and no trailer hitch. i used the hands free feature with no problems. when i got the car, i looked at the sensor and could see it no problem. now i've got my new '20 ST and it's really hit and miss putting my foot under the bumper. it often takes me two or three tries. so today i got down on the ground to look at the sensor to see where exactly it was, to check that it was not obstructed by mud or any other part of the car, or hadn't shifted out of position. for the life of me i cannot figure out where the sensors are! if i understand correctly there are two since the ST comes with the tow hitch. i've searched on this forum and the web for diagrams or photos. i see that whereas the sensor on my '16 was a rectangular box, this new sensor is two piece so it can be activated on either side of the hitch and they seem to be long slender pieces. armed with this knowledge i went back under the rear bumper with a good strong flashlight and i am stumped. i see nothing even closely related to the diagrams that i have found. does anyone have any photos of these sensors or can anyone describe where exactly they are? i would be extremely grateful for any help.
  12. hah! you guys are bad. i don't have that problem. my wife never complains. i've taken her on a track in a porsche and she wouldn't get out. i even lost control and spun out at 120kph, (70 mph?) and when i asked her if she was okay, she replied "THAT WAS GREAT!!!" guess i got lucky.
  13. thanks but no thanks! seems like the guy in the car behind the one recording didn't have pre-collision assist ? what is the passenger seat alarm?
  14. thanks. i went to that setting when i got the car and i put it on high to test it out. i still haven't gotten any alerts. guess i'll have to be a more aggressive driver. ?
  15. @lildisco @akirby @dajo2012 thanks for the info. the driving school experience sounds good. i'd love to try that. i'm just so curious about what it does and how well it does it.
  16. good information. thanks. i was driving a friend's range rover many years ago, i think it was a 2014 model, and it had all kinds of bells and whistles. as i approached a car that was stopped at a stop sign, the range rover warned me. i was driving very slowly and was still very far from the car in front. i found that it was ridiculously over sensitive, hence my curiosity about my new edge's behavior. i'm still curious about real-world experience in the latest edges.
  17. i've read a bit about this Pre-Collision Assist that's in my brand new 2020 ST. I've watched some videos on youtube. i approached a stopped car a bit faster than i normally do and braked a bit later but no warning. i don't want to try faster or later braking. would it work if i put a big cardboard box on the road and drove toward it? supposedly it will recognize pedestrians. i assume it's the radar but maybe the camera as well? will it brake for animals? we have so many deer here, it would be awesome if the car would help me avoid hitting one. has anyone here actually experienced the pre-collision assist? if so, how was it? did it save your bacon?
  18. i noticed some bizarre fluctuations in my 2016 Ti. Not sure if they were identical to yours, OP, but i found that it seemed to adjust properly if i changed the temp and then put it back to where i had it.
  19. with the factory installed tow package, the edge can tow 3500 lbs. but IIRC, if it's installed afterwards, the max towable weight is only 1500 lbs it would also help to know your year and engine.
  20. thanks for the info @DaMiFo. i will, and always do, make backups of things when i mess with them. i'll even make a backup of the backup!
  21. i made a few nice mods with forscan on my 2016 Ti. Now i'd like to make the same changes on my 2020 ST. The ones i'd like to do are the turn signal flashes, eliminate the double-honk when i get out a running car with the key in my pocket, secure idle, seat heating and cooling on home display, and so on. can i safely use the same code changes or can i mess things up?
  22. something else i noticed the other day that i don't see mentioned in the owner's manual; the heated seat and steering wheel settings stay on when you leave the car. i haven't noticed how long they stayed on since i noticed it after stopping at the hardware store and being inside for 10-15 minutes. i don't know how long it will keep the settings though. this is one of those little things that is a nice improvement. it's not a huge deal but when you go out to run a few errands, stop to put gas in the car, etc., it's tedious to have to turn those things back on every time. i'm wondering how far back this feature goes. it wasn't like that on my '16 Ti. it's also kind of nice that the car automatically shifts into P when you turn off the engine. and one more thing that is great is that you can get out of the manual selection mode in S without having to go from S to D and back again. Just hold the "+" paddle for a couple of seconds and you're back in automatic and still in S mode. i posted a question about that in this forum a while back to see if i could do that in the '16.
