i've read a bit about this Pre-Collision Assist that's in my brand new 2020 ST. I've watched some videos on youtube. i approached a stopped car a bit faster than i normally do and braked a bit later but no warning. i don't want to try faster or later braking. would it work if i put a big cardboard box on the road and drove toward it? supposedly it will recognize pedestrians. i assume it's the radar but maybe the camera as well? will it brake for animals? we have so many deer here, it would be awesome if the car would help me avoid hitting one. has anyone here actually experienced the pre-collision assist? if so, how was it? did it save your bacon?

i noticed some bizarre fluctuations in my 2016 Ti. Not sure if they were identical to yours, OP, but i found that it seemed to adjust properly if i changed the temp and then put it back to where i had it.

Towing travel trailer
ben senise replied to Gabbyrondi's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
with the factory installed tow package, the edge can tow 3500 lbs. but IIRC, if it's installed afterwards, the max towable weight is only 1500 lbs it would also help to know your year and engine. -
i made a few nice mods with forscan on my 2016 Ti. Now i'd like to make the same changes on my 2020 ST. The ones i'd like to do are the turn signal flashes, eliminate the double-honk when i get out a running car with the key in my pocket, secure idle, seat heating and cooling on home display, and so on. can i safely use the same code changes or can i mess things up?

picked up my new 2020 ST this afternoon

something else i noticed the other day that i don't see mentioned in the owner's manual; the heated seat and steering wheel settings stay on when you leave the car. i haven't noticed how long they stayed on since i noticed it after stopping at the hardware store and being inside for 10-15 minutes. i don't know how long it will keep the settings though. this is one of those little things that is a nice improvement. it's not a huge deal but when you go out to run a few errands, stop to put gas in the car, etc., it's tedious to have to turn those things back on every time. i'm wondering how far back this feature goes. it wasn't like that on my '16 Ti. it's also kind of nice that the car automatically shifts into P when you turn off the engine. and one more thing that is great is that you can get out of the manual selection mode in S without having to go from S to D and back again. Just hold the "+" paddle for a couple of seconds and you're back in automatic and still in S mode. i posted a question about that in this forum a while back to see if i could do that in the '16. -
canada is messed up with measurements. the other day my wife was buying fabric. it's 60" wide but the price is per meter length. i go to buy something and give the length in cm, the sales person asks what that is in inches. next place i go i figure i'll give them the length in inches and the salesperson says they sell by the meter. i tell the salesperson i would like half-a-kilo of whatever and they ask how many grams that is. i have found that many people here don't even realize that there's a difference between Imperial and US Customary Units. when you go to the pub, they show the pints as 20 oz because Imperial gallons have 160 ounces. go to a bar and ask if the 9 oz glass of wine is imperial or US customary and they look at you like you have two heads on your shoulders. they have no clue. the great thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from.

yes! rattles and creaks!!! ? another thing is the small drawer above the left knee but i took car of that. the mirrors on the 2020 don't have small convex wide-angle mirrors in the corners. other than that, nothing that i can think of. Day 2 impressions: the built in navigation is horrible. difficult to use. doesn't have nearly the number of businesses that google maps does. and what on earth is with the incessant nagging about following traffic laws and being safe, etc., every time i start a route?!?!? My mother doesn't nag me that badly! and i can't find a setting to tell the nav to STFU except if there's a traffic alert like there is on google maps. and i'm doing 90 kph and the voice tells me to exit in 150m!!! sometimes it tells me to exit after i've already passed it. and it's a brand new car and the maps are outdated already. this nav sucks. android auto is infinitely better. i de-badged the rear, and programmed the garage door opener. now i want to put the dash-cam in and my phone holder. bummer that android auto is not wireless so that i could just drop my phone onto the wireless charging pad. that would be sweet. -

the visuals will come as soon as the weather clears enough. we're predicted to get snow for a few days and for it to go below freezing. ughhh. -
2020 ST in Ford Performance Blue, 401A, 21" black wheels, cargo accessory package. traded in my 2016 Edge Ti with cold weather package (heated steering wheel.) i posted some questions in the ST sub-forum last week and got some useful help. some impressions after a very small amount of driving time. i drove home from the dealer and now i just drove at night to check out the lighting. some preliminary thoughts: - the headlights! wow, what a difference. incredible the low-beams are better on this car than the high-beams on the old one. the adaptive feature is subtle but it does work and increases visibility. - the stereo is a vast improvement. much more crisp than the old one. - the cooled seats started to freeze my gonads off in a matter of minutes. i'm thinking it might be nice in the summer although it never really gets that hot here. - i really like the black headliner. - the lane centering doesn't work that well on a curvy, hilly highway but i didn't expect it to. - the adaptive cruise works well even on a curvy, hilly highway. - of course i'm still in the break-in period so i don't stomp on the go-pedal but man, the torque is fantastic. 380 lb-ft vs 250 in the old edge. 50% more. wow. - the bolsters the seat bottoms are much more pronounced. at first it felt strange but i already stopped noticing them after 15 minutes. - the engine auto-start/stop is not as bad as i expected it to be. i didn't really even notice it after the first couple of times. i was thinking that i would buy that defeat gizmo but now i'm not so sure. let's see how it goes after a month or two. - the steering feels somewhat heavier and the suspension tauter. feels nice. i am happy so far.

thinking of trading my '16 Ti for a '20 ST and I have a few questions

fantastic suggestion. i just checked it out and the drawer popped out very easily. now i need to surreptitiously pop off the panel from the new car and get it into my old one before i hand it over. -
thinking of trading my '16 Ti for a '20 ST and I have a few questions
ben senise replied to ben senise's topic in Edge ST
thanks for your answers. interesting that you also had a 2016. I took the car for a quick test drive and it seemed to be quieter and squeek-free. i never used the top compartment but i did use the one on the left by the light switches. i keep a tennis ball in there so i don't have to hold the gas pump nozzle when they don't have the locking device. also interesting is that the lights were one of the main reasons you traded. same here. i was thinking of going with black again but i was tempted by the blue. i wouldn't mind the big display and also the fact that the '21 is Sync4 but it's not a deal breaker. the 8" display is adequate. so are the four door windows laminated with the plastic sandwiched so they'll stay intact if they shatter? well, i can now officially join this ST sub-forum. I pulled the trigger. i stopped by the dealer where i take my '16 for service and told them that if they made me a really good deal I would take it. they did and I took it. so in two days i'll go pick up my brand new 2020 Edge ST in Ford Performance Blue. It has the 401A, the cargo accessory package and the 21" black wheels. I am psyched to get it. this will be the third edge we have (2009, 2016, and now 2020). I like the edge for its size and comfort and versatility. looking forward to the new tech, especially the headlights and adaptive cruise. those are the two biggest things that will make driving more comfortable. i always de-badge my cars so one of the first things i'll do it take off the Edge and ST emblems from the back. I had a quick look at the ST emblem on the grill but it looks like it's built-in to the grill. maybe i'll just black it out. of course, now i'll have to apply all the hacks like eliminating the double-honk when i leave the car with it running and a few others. i'll post pics when the weather clears up a bit. thanks to everyone who has replied on this thread. it's great to get other people's opinions and answers to questions. -
thinking of trading my '16 Ti for a '20 ST and I have a few questions
ben senise replied to ben senise's topic in Edge ST
thanks for the comments. you're right about the ST being the least produced but seeing that currently in this area there are more ST than the other 3 trims combined, 4 if you count the ST Wanna Line. Good news on the additional deadener. Hopefully it would help. Great to know the LED lights are better. Thanks for the correction on the brakes. The red calipers are not available in Canada and i never really looked into them. ah, special compound pads must have been what i was thinking of when i read about the ST a while back. thanks. -
I'm very surprised that the '21 Edge is not on the Ford website yet. I imagine that like so many companies, Ford is taking a beating because of the pandemic. I notice that there are boatloads of 2020 Edges available at the dealerships. My 2016 Edge Titanium will be 5 years old in June and I would probably trade it in the next year or two. I'm thinking that maybe due to the current circumstances i could get a really good bargain on a 2020 ST. A little anecdote: when i was in college, a girlfriend of mine got rear ended and the car was totaled. she got insurance money and asked me to help her find a new car. we decided on a car and went to about 7 or so dealerships and i basically said that we'd like to buy this car and we have this much money. she had about 70% of the price of the car. The salespeople basically threw us out but the last one said okay. so i'm thinking of trying the same tactic today. if i get a deal, good. if not, i haven't lost anything except a bit of time. so please help me out with a few questions i have. - seeing that car sales are way down across the board, how desperate do you think dealers are to get rid of what appears to be a huge inventory of 2020 models? here are some questions specifically about the car: - the interior in my 2016 creaks and rattles like crazy. are the 2020 models better? - i find the road noise to be pretty bad in my 2016, both on the hankook original tires and the michelin winter tires. any improvements there? - the headlights on my 2016 absolutely SUCK. I live in a somewhat rural area and there is a lot of wildlife; bears, cougars, racoons, and millions of deer. I can't see didly at night. How are the LED lights in the 2020 ST? good? fair? excellent? the fact that there are fog lights would help light up the side of the road a bit which would help a lot. - finally, i'm wondering if i can keep a few accessories from my '16 and use them on the '20; 18" winter wheels and tires (no big brakes package on the '20 ST), rubber floor mats (original ford), the plastic tray in the cargo area (also original ford), the cargo area cover. the 2019 and onwards was just a cosmetic refresh and not a new car, right? my guess is that all this stuff will fit. I'd love to have the big display and Sync4 that will be on the '21 but if i can get a killer deal, i could live with that trade-off. What do you think? I'd like to hear your thoughts. thanks.

i've tried searching for news about any delays or reasons why the 2021 Edge isn't on the Ford website yet. I might just be too old but i remember when cars would be in the showroom by september or so for the next model year. i'm curious to know why next year's edge isn't on the website with only 3 days left in this year. i've seen the ordering guide but i'd like to look at more information and the configurator. Anyone have any information or even ideas about this?

although this post is quite a few years old, it was very helpful to me. just to put some more info here for anyone who might need it in the future, here's the page on the gorilla auto website with those nuts: https://www.gorilla-auto.com/lug-nuts-page-09 the black ones pictured above are the same number but with BCX instead of just CX.

i had read about that and was hoping that it would but i don't have navigation. i use android auto with google maps which is one of the reasons i ordered my edge without nav. but i still only see entertainment and phone on the right display on the instrument cluster. this is really a long shot but just in case it helps. i was having a problem with the USB stick disappearing every time i restarted. someone suggested that the drive was corrupted or something so i stuck it in the windows machine and used the repair function and it actually worked! no more disappearing drive. hearing of your problem, i'm wondering if the cause could be something similar. i would try repairing the drive and if that fails, maybe copy everything on it onto a hard disk, reformatting the drive and then putting it back. just a thought since if i had to wait 5 min while this farking thing indexed i would drive my edge into a tree.

i haven't been on the forum for a while and i just saw this. apart from aesthetics, what added functionalities does 3.4 offer? i watched a few videos and didn't notice anything new.
-
i also have a 2016 and this has been an issue since day one. i have to manually raise the brightness of the instrument cluster one click and then the display dims. i don't even fight it anymore.

it's that way by design and the reason it won't work for a condo is for security. whoever manages the building can delete your remote if they need to, e.g. you move out and shouldn't have access anymore. but if it's in your car, they can't.

anyone here use an impact driver when changing wheels?
ben senise replied to ben senise's topic in Wheels & Tires
thanks, that's the kind of info i was looking for. i was tightening my nuts once and didn't have the socket on quite far enough and i distorted the outermost part. couldn't get the socket back on the nut and had to replace it. swollen nuts are a pain! ? -
anyone here use an impact driver when changing wheels?
ben senise replied to ben senise's topic in Wheels & Tires
yes, i have a breaker bar and socket. i even leave them in the edge so i don't have to deal with the stock stuff if i have to change a tire on the road. i have been using the breaker bar on wheels for years. i just thought about the impact wrench because of a fantastic deal that i found. it would just make changing wheels for the winter that much easier. thanks @akirby. that's exactly what i was wondering; how much torque is needed to loosen these lug nuts.
