OEM backup camera for 2013 Edge SE?

Recommended Posts

I wanted to check in here to see if anyone had success with this. I have a '12 SEL without touch/nav (just the 4" screen) but I also have the strange situation of an OEM camera already being installed in the liftgate, even though it wasn't optioned with one. This was a leased car and has all of 15k miles on it, so I can't imagine the leasee installed anything himself.

In any case, before I found this thread, I started another topic at http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/17564-backup-camera-without-my-touch and wanted to cross-link them. Unfortunately, there's not much helpful information in them, except the photos from toast. The 2012 sales brochure listed the 204A option package as Leather + Backup Camera, but not MFT. So I was pretty sure it was possible to get video on the 4" lcd, but didn't have any proof. I was scouring used car listings for example photos. Thanks, toast, for helping me keep my sanity.

This weekend, if the weather holds, I'm going to pull the liftgate trim and make sure the camera is wired to something. If it is, then I think I'm on a software hunt. I imagine there's either a hidden switch in the existing software, or I'll need to flash a different version with the camera enabled.

Seeing this post, it has me thinking again, since I have the same head unit in my SE. Has anyone ever taken out the head unit and noticed if there is an auxiliary video input pigtail or plug in there? I don't want to disassemble the unit just to check if someone already has the answer. If it does, is there something that has to be done by the dealer to turn on this function or is it just plug and play? Inquiring minds want to know!

the 2014 camera system is all integrated with factory harness, no RAC like all of the aftermarket camera. I just installed an aftermarket stereo and have tapped into the camera feed to show on the dash like it did with the 4" screen. only down side so far that i cannot fix is getting the guide lines back. I have been racking my brain on this one. I am almost ready to just add an aftermarket camera, but according to ford if you remove the external rear hatch molding to access the camera, you have to buy a new piece because you break all of the clips getting it off. That piece is over $200. Does not really seem worth it. Anyone able to verify this?

Concerning your question. Is the 4.2" screen in your car wired for backup camera. NO My 2013 Sel has the same 101A package. I took the dash apart and removed the screen, no plug in for backup camera.

I bought a backup camera kit with 7" mirror monitor. Too much glare I couldn't always see the image behind me. So I removed it. I have to do some checking to see if I can replace my sync screen with one that has the backup camera connection. If I find out if this will work I will post what I found.

If your radio is anything like my 09, the camera connects into the middle connector on the back of the unit. (There is no RCA connector).

That screen can definitely do video, my f150 used that screen. But the wiring is a different story. Strange they wouldn't put it on as I believe by 2017 all models are required by law to have rear cameras. Especially when they already use the 4.2" in other models with a camera?!
