ksquared Posted December 31, 2019 Report Share Posted December 31, 2019 Hi I have a 2016 Titanium V6 with 10,200 miles. We got it 2.5 months ago and my wife and I really like it. One thing I've noticed, however, is the brakes are really sensitive. They work fine but when pulling into a parking spot, it is sometimes difficult to stop smoothly. I kinda have to concentrate on it or it sort of grabs (and makes me look like a newbie). Stopping from speed is fine. I'm comparing it to my Z51 Corvette which has great brakes and doesn't behave this way. Is this common to the Edge? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I am aware of the TSB for 2015 and early built 2016 models for the same issue that involved replacing the Brake Booster, but don't remember the ABS module reprogramming, do you have more details? My '16 (built after the TSB date) reacts exactly the same as yours at low speed and is particularly bad when the brakes are cold. It makes creeping along in a fast food pickup queue maddening. tastewt@gmail.com Posted March 16, 2020 Report Share Posted March 16, 2020 Hi All, I just bought a 2018 EDGE Sport and as you have all found: the brakes are over-boosted and way too touchy to use. This really irks me as in hitting the brake in a "dangerous" situation, I find that I'm Over-Braking. The sudden "jerk" on on passengers is very uncomfortable and as one member noted: a HANS Device could be needed. Further, I like a pedal that takes some pressure and can be modulated. Bouncing off the ABS is not a driving technique. My Porsche track-car takes about 150+ lbs to work, but modulation is great. The ONLY solution that I can see is installing HARDER BRAKE PADS. Hard pads (racing maybe) will take more pressure to work offer better modulation and lessen the "OOPS, I hit the brakes" behavior. The solution will take some internet surfing as there are a number of suppliers out there. Edge owners have complained for years about this and pad replacements (to ceraminc) are sometimes suggested but I've never seen anyone say they 'fixed' it with a specific pad. While messing around with FORScan recently I decided to do a reset of the ABS module. I don't know if this will be a long term fix but now my brakes are predictable from a normal stop and that low speed grabbiness is gone. I can now brake without getting the 'furry eyeball' from my frequent passenger and chief navigation specialist in the right seat. I had been fighting this issue for over a year, taken to two different dealerships. I was there for a tire repair, and asked if they could reset using the fordscan. he gave me a strange look but they did. I tried running this with forscan this afternoon but I got an error that the module reset could not be completed- what am I doing wrong? Are you using a code reader known to work well with FORScan? Ecoboosted Posted October 2, 2020 Report Share Posted October 2, 2020 Yeah I got it, I didn't tell it I had HS + MS on the initial connection so it wasn't looking for it and aborted the reset when I tried the first time. Ecoboosted Posted November 1, 2020 Report Share Posted November 1, 2020 (edited) Mine is a 2015, I think the 2018 was the OP So I finally got around to replacing the booster today- I don't normally react this way but.... This is literally like a new car- it actually has pedal travel and stops like you would expect it to. What really gets me is that there's a bulletin on this, I took it to the dealer and told them I wanted them to change it, they said everything is normal and said not to change it even after I was clear that I was ok paying them to do it. So I ended up saving a few bucks on labor and I'm stoked that there was such a significant improvement. Now I'm ready to order a tuner from Livernois and keep this thing a while. If you've got short pedal travel and touchy brakes, don't hesitate on the booster update.
