Lane Keeping issue

Recommended Posts

i have a used 2019 edge, 46,000 miles. the traction control is very strong and if you dont have both hands on the wheel its breaking action, when changing lanes, can pull you into oncoming traffic, the off/on button does not seem to work as it continues when the indicator says it is off. there was a brief period of about 4 weeks when it did not work at all. very comfortable driving during that period. i did not do anything to create that situation. then for some reason it starts working again. not sure what to make of it. i did have head gasket replaced 2 months ago, not sure if that had any connection but do not remember having an issue before that, could have and just dont remember as i only had car for 3 weeks at that point. any thoughts. saw where traction control module, if it is a plug in unit can be replaced fairly easily

So when you take off from a stop to try to merge into traffic, the Traction Control light blinks on the dash and you are limited in power? When it happens when you are already moving does it make your brake pedal pulse or actually go down?

Traction control, stability control, and roll control are pretty hard to engage, you really have to try, or be in very slippery conditions. Do you also get the power train/wrench/abs light on? It sounds more like a powertrain fault that needs diagnosed.

none of those things happen, only when driving. i watch as the light indicating each wheel lights up with a different color, red on one side while green or chartruese on the other.

i am driving on drive paved road no weather conditions that would impact my driving, no rain no wet pavement. at 76 i have done a lot of long hiway driving as well as local streets there is not much i havent experienced. it does seem that if i give it the gas in a situation where it would start applying traction control it just shows green or no color, thes would be situations in which you are doing the opposite of would you should in that instance,

I am confused. Are there drivability concerns, or are you looking at the Intelligent AWD Information display, or something else, like the Lane Keeping and it is visually alerting you of crossing a line?

I haven't seen a 2019 AWD display, and if it accounts for the new to 2019 disconnect or not. I have only seen it show front and rear bias, not side to side, which would be ESC but usually not in minor normal driving.

yes its side to side never has it indicated front or rear, one side is red while the other side is usually green

Read the stored error codes, or have them read at a place like AutoZone and report back what they are.

Good work, let us know. I have a 2019 and I was confused as to why I had lane keep as part of the cruise control and also an option for it as a button on the end of the wiper stalk, Still dont know why, but I like the vehicle.

One is Lane Keeping, that can be enabled and used without the Adaptive Cruise Control being used. It will alert you of leaving your lane (shake wheel, red section in dash display), and very lightly attempt to correct it with a little torque on the wheel. That is enabled or disabled by the button on the end of the stalk (not wiper, turn signal).

The other is Lane Centering. It will provide enough torque to keep your vehicle in the lane, even in turns. It is only on with Adaptive Cruise Control, and is controlled by the button in the cruise control section that has a steering wheel on it.

I read the owners manual about all the new stuff I had never had, and even if I don't use it, get familiar with it. I like Lane Centering, it really makes long trips less stressful. It doesn't steer for itself, I am still steering, but it lets me relax a bit.

Ah yes..,turn signal stalk. Thanks. I 100% agree, I love the lane centering with the adaptive cruise. Works very well. I'm sure I will draw fire from the safety zealots, but I found out by mistake that if I hang my metal hand gripper off one spoke of the steering wheel, it is enough weight to simulate driver input and will happily steer itself along for hours. (I drive alot for work).

It's actually very cool. I went from driving disposal used 80's and 90's 500 dollar bombs as personal vehicles for most of my life to this 2019 edge and I cant say enough good about it. Comfy, handles great, roomy, runs like a champ and all the gadgets and conveniences work well. Turns out to be easy to work on as well.

You will like the adaptive cruise lane centering. As someone who was happy with crank windows and manual steering, I cant believe how well integrated and intuitive all the features are.
