fordsucks Posted August 1, 2011 Report Share Posted August 1, 2011 hey members. i bought a 2009 sel edge just over a year ago, it was used and had 27 000 kms. we reset the trip every time we fill up and we would get almost 600 km in city and some highway for most of the first year we owned it and then it started going down now we are lucky to get 300 kms on a tank of gas. We have taken it in many times and also had a mechanic friend check it over and nobody can seem to find any problems. its getting costly to fill up and we need soem ideas? If you were getting 600 km out of a tank and it has worsened, then there MUST be something that has changed. First, time for a better mechanic. I would have whomever you go to check all the filters (especially air), tire pressures, etc. I use AMSOIL synthetic oil. That will also help. Have you hooked the car up to a computer during idle to check the fuel trim levels and ignition performance? if you mechanic isn't doing that to diagnose, I agree with others and suggest a new mechanic. What type of terrain are you driving in and what is your percentage of stop and go vs. highway miles daily? Richy is right on checking the filters and the use of synthetic oils. I use a K&N air filter and drive a daily average of about 50 miles per day except for now I am running 100 miles per day this week. 70% highway and 30% stop n go on my route depending on the traffic back up and I just pulled 23.5 MPG on my fill up today. Planning an 800 mile round trip drive in a couple of week and plan to post the fuel economy for primarily highway driving on my 2010 model FWD Edge. Sounds like something is causing the system to burn more fuelt han normal and proper diagnosis is the only way to ensure you find a solution. JT58 Posted August 4, 2011 Report Share Posted August 4, 2011 Does not sound right. We had an 07 AWD Edge for 3 years, averaged 19 MPG, over 22 on a trip. Now we have 2010 Sport, average 21 MPG. fordsucks Posted September 23, 2011 Author Report Share Posted September 23, 2011 It just started to get slowly worse and worse we had it in like 6 times and the service manager told us he wasnt wasting anymore time on it so we called ford Canada and they pretty much told us to shove it up our ass. Now isn't that great customer service. The only thing we did to it is get command start for it but we didn't start getting poor fuel Milage till several months later, also my friend hooked it up to his computer at Canadian tire and he couldn't find anything abnormal either Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
