Hit and Run Driver

I'm not sure if it's just me getting older or if over the last 10 years drivers just don't give a shit about courtesy. In the last week I've had 2 people blow off stop signs and one gave me the finger. (maybe he wanted me to know his IQ) I was rear ended 3 years ago by some idiot who asked me if I was ok and then almost ran me over leaving the scene. I got his plate number and he was arrested.

Ā

Sorry about your car. Glad your wife is ok. Hope they catch the asshole and arrest him.

I don't think it's you getting older I'm 28 and have noticed things changing. People are so stuck to their phone screen that they don't care to hold a door, let someone into lane in traffic, or whatever the case.

Ā

I try to use my commercial driving experience to remember those times I was in a big truck and nobody would let me in to always allow semi's to merge or move if they give proper signal and allow time.

Ā

As for everything else I just imagine what if that was my grandma, grandpa, mom, or dad, sister or brother?? Would I not help or hold the door..etc etc.

Ā

I think there are a lot of people still like this but it seems the majority have become more distant from people with it being possible to have minimal human interactions on a daily basis if you want to. Everything can be done on the computer or phone at this point.

Ā

Sorry for the rant. People suck :)

You guys are younger than me and what you have noticed in the last 10 years is spot on. Our society is changing and it is manifesting itself in the caliber of the drivers out there. The change in the last 5-10'years has especially been drastic. Even worse, driving is a twisted beaurocratic social justice experiment now. Instead of forcing people to be at high standards, they dumb the hell out for the lowest common denominator. They force additional technology to dumb down things for these people instead of forcing them to maintain high standards like Japan or Germany requires of their drivers.

In Connecticut the police handcuffed him and took him to the station. His lawyer wrote a certified letter to me asking me to drop the charges. I told him not to dare and contact me again. The prosecutor asked for my opinion of what to do, I suggested community service and reparations. Maybe it taught him a lesson. I was proud of our criminal justice system for not taking the easy way out and just letting the insurance company suck up the expense. The repairs came out of his pocket.

Also a kid in his 20's.

1st. Talk with your insurance company, they stand to pay the full amount (total?) of the car without recourse. It would be in their own self interest to hire a lawyer to get the kids car impounded before it's modified beyond the accident damage.

2. Try to get a detective involved, perhapsody by taking pictures of the (at the least) to show that it was involved in your hit-and-run. You may have to file charges against the car driven by persons unknown, squeezing daddy to come clean or lose the car (he's probably still making payments on).

I'd even go as far as pointing out if he did this once what's to stop him the next time when he hits a pedestrian and leaves someone there? Unreal the cops are stopping at "nobody picked the phone up". Can't do anything. I've tried harder to deliver a package when I was a delivery driver than that. God help us if that's all cops can do these days
