  1. Chevy is NOT any better. My son has a 2007 Cobalt that was in the shop for the ignition recall for 6 months. No offer of a buyout or anything else. The dealer he purchased it from wouldn't even give him a rental and told him to drive it until the parts were in. Now remember that this is for an issue that KILLED people. Went to another dealer and they got him a rental. His was a big GM SUV so he was stuck with the much higher gas costs for the 6 months. They also have a recall on their gas tanks for this car. But they somehow managed to keep it limited to specific states (claiming it is weather related). Funny, other people have had to replace their tanks for the same reason and they don't live in those states.
  2. I've been holding back every time this kind of thing comes up but I can't anymore, so I have to ask. I’m not trying to be too snarky, or start a war here (we have enough of those), but I just want to know. WHY? As pointed out, too much of this can damage your fuel pump. Why the need to know how far you can go on a tank of gas? There are so many variables that you won’t get an accurate answer. Among the variables are: Accuracy of the fuel gauge. Accuracy of the gas station pump. I’m including the auto-cutoff point in this. Current MPG. MPG for all of the distance you traveled since your last fill-up. Anticipated MPG on the road ahead. There are multiple variables in this including terrain and traffic conditions. I have two main criteria for when I fill up my tank. If gas prices are rising fast, I will fill up when it gets below a half a tank. If gas prices are steady or falling, I will fill up when it gets around a quarter of a tank.
  3. How often so you have to replace the plastic wrap on your car? I've never heard of this but it makes sense.
  4. I want to make sure I got this right. Your wife locks her keys in the car and it's the car's fault?
  5. Not sure what setting you are talking about, but if you have the audio source set to bluetooth when you turn it off, it will be the same source the next time you start your car.
  6. That's exactly what it is. If you try to reset the trip data, but don't hold the button down long enough, this is what happens. To get rid of it, press and hold the button again to reset the data. Or just press it and it will start updating again.
  7. Why do motorcycles have their headlights on all the time? You are at a 'T' intersection in the Great Dismal swap where the swamp gas can make it hard to judge distance and speed, much less see a silver/grey car. Same thing happens on the back roads in Mississippi where you have to pick the cars out of the heavily wooded background. Both of these locations have speed suggestions (they really aren't limits there) of 55. In both instances, having lights on makes the recognition of a car that much faster.
  8. Give the loop a few twists before putting it on the hook.
  9. What functionality do you think you paid for that they took away? I seriously doubt that you investigated the Edge that closely (for those features) and bought the car solely for that functionality. As for the heated seats, yes I would be pissed. However, I would have investigated the update before I installed it to see what others were reporting. Someone would have reported it before I went to update.
  10. I haven't seen anywhere that they have discontinued support. If it is under warranty, you can still get it serviced. They have stated that they will continue to support as needed. Mine is two years old and does everything I need it to do just fine. I expect that it will continue to do so. Most of the complaints are about promised functionality. What do you think is a reasonable thing for ford to do in this case? I really would like to hear.
  11. Yep. Never buy something based on promises down the road. Buy it based on what it does NOW. Do you know the difference between a car salesman and a computer salesman? The car salesman knows when he is lying. In this case, the car salesman was wearing two hats - car and computer sales.
  12. I understand completely. I'm never buying Apple products again because my 3GS won't run IOS 8. You bought a computer. At some point, the manufacturer will stop supporting it and come out with a new model. As someone who keeps a car for 8-10 years, I expected them to stop supporting the current version.
  13. I see mine when the light (and the dust) are just right. I don't think it is a defect. It's just the weak spot where the airbag would break through if you ever need it. Given its position on the top of the dashboard, I'm not surprised that it is easy to see.
  14. The EPA is a government agency. What do you think?
  15. I'm sure it could. I know that other engines do it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variable_displacement. Now, if you wanted to know if YOU could -- that's a different question. I would doubt that is it something the average person could make there car do. Lots of changes in lots of different places.
  16. OR you could go around with a tire pressure gauge and check each one of them. Not that hard. Plus you would find and fix any that needed air just before they set off the alarm. I always check the pressures monthly (ok, really the first Saturday of every month but close enough). That's called maintainance. Takes 5 minutes plus you get more life out of your tires. Also check oil and all the other fluids.
  17. Just saw this last night. Automatic and Ford are working to get Siri and IFTTT working through the Link adapter. https://gigaom.com/2014/09/16/who-needs-carplay-ford-brings-siri-to-the-car-dashboard-now-with-the-help-of-automatic-labs/ I've never understood why Sync couldn't trigger sync by itself. I had a Bluetooth speaker (BlueAnt?) that could start it by just saying "phone command". Also absent from the list of cars is the Edge. Update: Should have used google before posting. The Edge is listed here https://www.automatic.com/ford/
  18. I've had mixed success with it on my phone. For a while it will work, then it will stop and then magically start again. I haven't reset anything on sync.
  19. I had a similar issue and I worked with Dan to get it fixed. No problems since.
  20. Go ahead and order them. Wiring is not a problem and KC provides excellent customer service in case you have any problems.
  21. Not sure what it takes to qualify, but I think from North Carolina and done were the ones that did. Couldn't believe it when I heard it that the recall was limited like that.
  22. It's not just Ford's with leaking tanks. My son just got his 2007 Cobalt back from the ignition switch recall and had to replace the fuel tank. It has a plastic one and is located close to the exhaust with little or no shielding. 120,000 miles on it. This on top of the cracked and leaking fuel pump he had to replace that wasn't covered under a recall because Maryland is not a warm enough climate.
  23. Just got 29 going from my house up to the orchards in Thurmont and back. Cruise control all the way (60, 65, and 55 mph). About 130 miles round trip. Don't all EcoBoost Edges have active shutters?
  24. I'm not sure why it doesn't work. The Mountek I have works fine. I have to use to "upside down" to keep phone away from the MFT screen, but it works just fine.
