Heated and Cooled Seats
akirby replied to Wedgeamatic's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
They've already put out one repair kit. Why would you think they'll "take a knee"? This affects too many vehicles for them to ignore. -
Access Passenger Compartment Fuse Panel
akirby replied to msawdust's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Just a note - all circuits go through a fuse somewhere whether it's hot all the time or switched with the ignition and that goes for all makes and models. What has happened is more and more things are controlled by computer modules so most of the circuits are always hot. It would be nice if they gave you a spare hot and switched to use for your own stuff. -
Ok I see the confusion. Yes, MFT is enabling eyes free (restricted) mode. But once enabled it's up to Siri as to what is allowed or not. But you say that as if MFT has a choice. It doesn't. Eyes free was created specifically for cars. No mfr is going to allow unrestricted Siri access in their vehicles due to potential lawsuits if you activate something that uses the screen and have an accident. That's why it was created. There really isn't a choice. Of course it's not just Pandora. I said any 3rd part (non Apple) app. Unless there is a flag in the app Siri doesn't know how that app behaves with regard to screen use or user interaction so it blocks it. It knows which Apple apps are ok and which Siri requests are ok. My guess is you can't open any 3rd party app.

Meanwhile the 2006-2012 Fusion built in Hermosillo was Ford's highest quality vehicle and was on par with the U.S. assembled Accord and Camry. It was Ford's highest rated plant internally.

My concern with 2 owner cars is why did the 2nd owner get rid of it? I like 1 because it's one owner with service history and normal mileage.
-
Absolutely. We never said that you shouldn't be able to open pandora - only that it was Siri preventing it not MFT. And to answer your question above - the way you tell Siri to enter restricted mode is by telling it to start eyes free. Now that we have that out of the way I think I know exactly what's going on. Siri knows that certain Apple apps are ok for eyes free mode or they've activated a flag in the app that says it's ok. But it doesn't know about 3rd party apps like Pandora or the Pandora app isn't setting the flag (if there is one). There still seems to be a bug with it blocking everything after it tries to open Pandora.

They acknowledged it by issuing TSBs, updated parts and repair kits. If you mean they should cover it under warranty - your vehicle is 8 years old. How many mfrs (German or otherwise) would provide warranty coverage on a 8 yr old car unless forced to do so by a government recall?

Great Dealer JC Lewis in Savannah GA
akirby replied to losthawaiian's topic in Dealership & Vendor Experiences
It's certainly not right but unfortunately that's par for the course for a brand new model. Ford's initial quality on brand new models has been terrible the last few years. I attributed it to trying to make too many changes at the same time (new platforms, new drivetrains, new suppliers, new features) and was hoping it would get better but that hasn't been the case yet. That's why I'm waiting a few months for the 2016s hoping they get all these issues worked out. Some of that is on the dealer though - they don't have those same excuses for the car being dirty. -
Pretty sure the A6 card is already out. Should be $120 or so which is cheaper than the old DVD based updates that were $200.

Purge valve I'm guessing.

Shift to Park Warning when it's in Park
akirby replied to AmyLovesHerEdge's topic in All Wheel Drive (AWD)
There is no connection between the door latch sensor and wipers/lights. One is mechanical - the others are optical for one thing. And they're completely separate logically. -
It's really silly that your salesperson isn't doing this for you since you're paying them.

Media Players Supported by SYNC?
akirby replied to tloewenberg's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I think they gave up on trying to test all the various devices. Just too many and too many versions now. -
2015 with 3k, black "SYNC" screen with "error App" dialogue box
akirby replied to paulsgs's topic in Owner Impressions
Whoa - he didn't say that the dealer couldn't get to it until next week - just that he made the appointment then. Maybe he has the availability issue not the dealership. Let's at least wait for confirmation on that before you start bashing them. -
One of the upgrades did require a new card but I can't remember which one. I think the latest version works with both older and newer cards. I would ping Ford IV Team to be safe, although the website should warn you if a different card is needed.

Ford isn't going to do a recall unless NHTSA forces them to and they don't typically see these types of things as recall worthy.

Finally found this: This is from the interface spec. Eyes Free is specifically for vehicles only. All MFT can do is enable or disable Eyes Free mode - there is no flag that tells Eyes Free what can or cannot be done when in Eyes Free mode. Read for yourself: https://developer.apple.com/hardwaredrivers/BluetoothDesignGuidelines.pdf
-
I never said that Ford shouldn't do a better job communicating new features. My last post was for Tacyon who continues to believe the restrictions are being dictated by MFT rather than Apple. BTW - while googling the links above I came across a few mfr guides for Eyes Free and they all said the same thing Ford said - very general terms about what you can do while driving and how to activate Siri - but absolutely no detail from anybody about what is or isn't allowed specifically. So in that regard Ford seems to be no worse than any other mfr.
-
I didn't say it was a good definition, but that's what they used.
-
They're midsized utilities.
-
I think there are limits to what they can enforce but it's possible that type of agreement is binding. That said though I'd be shocked if a dealer would not let you out of it under the current circumstances.
-
You're right. I can only say 99.99%. Look - at least 2 and probably 3 IT professionals are telling you it's IOS. If you choose not to believe us then so be it. But then you'd have to explain why it does exactly the same thing in other vehicles. https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/2gkepz/siri_refusing_to_do_something_because_i_was/ https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6608465?start=0&tstart=0 https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7215540?start=0&tstart=0 http://www.mercurynews.com/business/ci_29114485/apple-carplay-can-it-get-you-taqueria https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6983232?start=45&tstart=0 https://www.reddit.com/r/applehelp/comments/3haceh/siri_voice_command_take_me_home_silently_fails_in/

You don't have to wait 3 months - if they can't give you the car you ordered in a reasonable amount of time you can get your money back.

You completely missed my point. My point was APPLE is deciding which apps you can or can't use, not MFT. MFT is simply a pass through to Siri. Generally speaking APPLE has decided that you shouldn't use things that require you to look at a screen to use them. They may have other reasons. Should Ford provide better tutorials on how to use it? Yes. But then again I'm not sure that Apple actually documents all of these restrictions in detail. I certainly didn't find them doing a google search.
