  3. Except you forgot to account for the existing LED bulbs because he's adding these, not replacing the existing ones. And there are two of them on the same circuit plus the LEDs. LEDs draw little current so I'm sure it's fine.
  4. Lack of parts is a good guess. They may have also underestimated the number of vehicles affected (apparently it doesn't affect all vehicles - the robot must have been failing intermittently) or the amount of damage. It still sucks regardless of the cause and remedy.
  5. I'm not trying to blindly defend Ford here - just trying to understand why they did whatever they did and it's usually a logical explanation, not because they're out to screw their customers and they don't care.
  6. Does it leak when sitting still or only when it's being driven? If they shipped them like this then they probably underestimated the amount of damage it was causing and thought it could be fixed by the dealers.
  7. When a new model is launched they always hold the initial batch of vehicles while they inspect for defects. Although that should only happen with dealer stock orders, not retail orders. Some vehicles may end up being held for several months which is why they don't build retail (sold) orders during that time. Those inspections and delays are standard launch procedure and not directly tied to the leak issue which they probably didn't know about. Had they known about the problem during that time they would have fixed the vehicles before they left the factory.

  9. "Maybe" Ford is stepping up here? Stop sale. Buying back vehicles. What else do you expect them to do about it?
  10. It's nice to have it on a 8" screen instead of a 4" screen and also having the turns in the instrument cluster. It automatically mutes or lowers the volume on the stereo to give you verbal commands. To some people that's important. To others, it isn't. Some people would say you're stupid to use a GPS at all and that they get along just fine with paper maps. To each his own.
  11. But then you couldn't upgrade the SD card. It can be done - but it's not as simple as some folks think.
  12. As I just said - the software part is easy. Creating a package that any dealer can install but at the same time making it very difficult for unscrupulous dealership employees to pirate it is the challenge.

If you're simply redeploying software from a totaled vehicle that did have Nav from the factory, then that should be legal from the nav company standpoint - Ford has already paid them for that license and both vehicles are not using it at the same time. Whether Ford considers it legal to swap the software like that - not sure. However, purchasing a used vehicle without Nav is COMPLETELY under the purchaser's control, just like purchasing a new vehicle without it.
  14. Nobody ever said that Ford couldn't make navigation available aftermarket - only that they chose not to. The software is the easy part. Coming up with a way for dealers to do it without making it easy for techs or others to do it without paying for it is a lot harder. And it appears they put all of their resources into sync3 which I think is much smarter than spending those resources on a dealer nav option. If they do a MFT compatible version of sync3 you may very well see an add-on nav option - that would make sense.
  15. DRLs are required by law in Canada - not in the U.S. so that's one difference. I think you only notice the ones with it. There are plenty of 2015s without it.
  16. It's under the bumper - should be obvious. No need to cut it - just block it with something. My aftermarket hitch blocks most of it anyway on my Escape. Only works in a specific spot to the side. It can be done. BTW - I triggered it accidentally 3 or 4 times while loading or unloading bicycles on a receiver hitch carrier. It's not that big of a deal.
  17. Contact our FordService reps. Make 4 more posts and send them a PM. Or take it to another dealer who isn't incompetent. That shouldn't be a hard problem to solve.
  18. Just because you don't have a problem stealing software you didn't pay for, doesn't make it right. You did have the option of buying the navigation software when you purchased the vehicle. Don't blame Ford for your choices. Being an IT professional this attitude irritates me. Sorry.
  19. It's pretty simple - take the fob out of your pocket or keep your feet away from the sensor. It would be nice to have a software option to turn it off or an easy way to temporarily disable it.
  20. My buddy was a Ford transmission engineer for many years. He said if the filter gets clogged then you have already killed the transmission, therefore it is a 'lifetime' filter whether that lifetime is 20 years or 2 years.
  21. The fob has to be within 3 feet for it to automatically close - kids playing without the fob won't trigger it. You can certainly block or possibly disconnect the sensor to disable it completely. I thought the Edge had an option to disable the power liftgate completely? Our 2008 did but our 2014 Escape does not.
