  1. If all Ford needed to do to get a significant mpg gain was put in a smoother intake - which would only cost them a few bucks in volume - don't you think they would have done it already? They already spend millions of dollars for a fraction of 1 mpg gain. The only thing that matters is the density of the air reaching the combustion chamber. The computer adjusts the amount of fuel accordingly. More power? More fuel. It doesn't matter if the throttle plate is 40% or 50%. K&N has plenty of dyno graphs showing power increases. Where are the same types of before and after tests showing mpg improvements? If they existed they would be published because that would be a much bigger selling point than a few hp. Read this. This is a scientific test, not a company trying to sell products. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/pdfs/Air_Filter_Effects_02_26_2009.pdf
  2. The reason they limited options on the 2014 Sport is that it's too close to the 2014 MKX. That won't be the case with the new MKX so no reason they should need to limit anything on the 2015 Edge.
  3. I use the instant gauge periodically to test different things. Otherwise I don't even see it.
  4. Most of that interior is straight from the Fusion including the gauges. They work well once you get used to them. I have the left side set on instant and avg fuel economy, vertical fuel gauge and vertical tach.
  5. Wouldn't that continue to get worse with speed over 40 though?
  6. Considering the last one was built on Flash I don't think it will take much to improve the performance of the new software on the old hardware.
  7. He's telling you the software in the PCM isn't processing the signals becuase it doesn't expect there to be paddle shifters. And he's definitely not guessing. Hopefully it's just an option in the pcm config and not a whole new program. Either way the dealer would have to do it.
  8. Don't blame Ford - blame the lawyers and the court systems. With possibly one exception, ALL mfrs do this.
  9. Plenty. 5+ hp is optimistic. 2-3 is more likely - not enough to tell the difference either way and only at WOT. There is no reason why it would increase fuel economy either on a modern vehicle. More air = more fuel, not less. If you notice nobody has any test data showing a mileage increase - just a "you may see a mileage increase". Don't count on it. For reference, a guy stuffed a cloth diaper in his airbox severely limiting the amount of airflow. He had very little power but his mpg actually went up slightly, not down. The whole "letting the engine breathe easier yields better mpg" is a myth on modern cars. On carburetors - sure. On modern EFI with MAF sensors - nope.
  10. Glancing at the screen and pressing one button is WAY different than typing in a street address.
  11. Exactly. They got stuck between a rock and a hard place when they had already committed to the new design with MFT for production but the software crapped out. This is probably one reason they made sure it was backwards compatible so they can upgrade it later on its own schedule and not get tied to a new vehicle launch. They are learning......
  12. That was what he posted about the concept when it was first shown.
  13. I don't think we'll see that on the 2015s. With the current model they had to do that to differentiate the MKX. But the new MKX should be totally different with a lot of Lincoln exclusive features like the MKC.
  14. Having lived through that nightmare here as the moderator in 2010, i can honestly say I'm ecstatic that it's NOT debuting on the Edge!
  15. Sorry my eyes aren't that good.
  16. Because they're reusing the Fusion interior. And a lot of the exterior (taillamps, grille, etc.). Platform sharing. Oops. Never mind. I guess staring at my Fusion interior for 16 months wasn't enough for me to remember the vents were horizontal. The rest is pretty much Fusion though.
  17. In case you didn't notice, this is basically a Fusion wagon with the Fusion interior and exterior styling.
  18. Find a new dealer who will fix your sticking brakes under warranty.
  19. The vehicle must be on level ground. Make sure you leave the dipstick in place for a little bit so that it gets coated well.
  20. For the brakes, try doing several hard stops in a row from 50 mph or so (making sure nobody is behind you). When the pads were replaced were the rotors replaced or turned? Your leak is most likely the PTU. Common problem - just do a search on "PTU".
  21. I don't understand why Ford isn't making this a recall especially given what's happened with GM lately. If you do get it replaced keep your paperwork and receipts - if they do a recall they'll reimburse you for at least part of the repair.
