HOW TO add OEM Remote Start (2015+)
johnmarkp replied to colinc755's topic in Accessories & Modifications
I second the use of a kit from MPC. I had one on an Edge and it worked great. Easy to install.- 45 replies

I guess what I am looking for is not the same as most ST owners. While I love the performance of the car, I do get a little tired of the jarring ride on city streets. Especially expansion cracks in older concrete streets. I would like to have the ride be between the current ST and the SEL. We have both 2019 versions. I have still not given up on putting the Lincoln adaptive suspension on my ST. I have it pretty much figured out. I still need to know what frequency the PWM runs at. Other than that, I think I could make it work.

They pop back into place pretty easily. Hopefully you did not break the shutter frame. The frame is pretty wimpy. I used 1/8 x 3/4 aluminum stock to make patches for the support. Drilled holes in the frame and aluminum, tapped the aluminum and used stainless screws to hold it together. Luckily there is room on both sides of the frame to do this.

We had the same issue with my sons car. I forgot what we used, but really cleaning the carpet and any other cloth parts in the interior really helped. There are many videos on how to do this out there. The Ozone treatment helped a lot as well. You will never get rid of it completely. My son reports that he gets a slight smell on damp days.

Strange, joins on Tuesday last week, posts this and then disappears.

Details please. How did it change the way the Edge drove? What model Edge do you own?

Putting a new screen in my ‘19?
johnmarkp replied to eric1's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
This sounds like an interesting project. I wonder how much of a wiring difference there is? Wubster, do you have any links that show the upgrade process from 3 to 4? -
Found it. Its the transmission cooler. Interesting that the 2.0 with the towing package does not have the cooler.

While working on my broken CCM module I saw that the AC condenser has four connections on it and that the condenser has two separate sections. The top sections is only about 4 inches tall. I did not trace the hoses at the time I had it apart. On our ST the upper sections has hoses attached. On our 2019 SEL 2.0 has the same condenser. However the upper part is not used. The two hose barbs are not connected to anything. Does anyone have any idea what this extra cooling circuit does?

You can use Forscan to confirm that the sensor is not damaged. You can run a full diagnostic on it. I did not have to re-calibrate mine. Be ready for damage to the shutter system as well. You can check for error codes with Forscan and do a visual check before you take things apart. Hopefully you can get the bolts out without breaking them. I drilled new holes in the mount and tapped them. Get some cobalt bits. The steel was surprising hard.

What a pain to fix. The bird strike broke the frame for the shutters and also broke the lower yoke that controls the shutter angle. The yoke is not available as a separate part. Ford wants over $500 for the assembly. I was able to fix the parts by adding an aluminum braces. I hope they hold up long term. Both bolts that hold the CCM bracket broke when I tried to remove them. I was able to drill new holes in the bracket and the mounting point. I found out that my grill shutters where staying open all the time. It turns out that the radiator brackets were put in wrong and it prevented the shutters from moving. I don't know if it came from the factory this way, or someone worked on it before I bought it. So far everything is working with no error codes.

Well I hate to admit it, but I was wrong on this one. I did find a way to break the bracket and not leave a mark on the lower grill. I hit a medium size bird, one to two pounds. It was running across the road and jumped right before I hit it. It hit the lower grill dead center. The bracket is definitely broken. Hopefully the CCM itself is fine. I will check it with Forscan later today and see if it is still there. I will probably buy a new bracket instead of trying to repair the broken one. I'll have to take the bumper off for sure.

Update: I got a new left steering wheel switch. SW-8186 (HG9Z-9C888-BB). This does not have lane centering. It is similar to the switch on the 2018 Edge with ACC and no lane centering. Once installed, I had to play around in SCCM with forescan. Option number 25 worked under the steering wheel left side switch. I know have ACC working, the switch allows me to change the distance setting. No error codes. The only limitation is no Stop and Go. Which I never use anyway.

Steering wheel button issues
johnmarkp replied to Alesia's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
The buttons are not individual on/off switches. Instead they are in a resistor ladder. The steering wheel control module reads the resistance on of the circuit and decides which button has been pushed. The problem you describe is probably due to a bad connection in the wiring between the switch block and the control module. Or it could be a bad control module. The fact that the behavior changed when you replaced the switch makes me think the the wiring within the steering wheel itself is bad. -
The ST bumper will fit just fine. The issue will be the exhaust. We have a 2019 SEL and ST. It looks like the exhaust ends are higher and extend farther back on the SEL.

I am 99% sure that it will. The plastic that surrounds the grill is basically the same on all edges from 2019 to 2024.
-
Did you check under the back cover and see if the spare, jack and other stuff is secure. I had rattles from the jack handle that drove me nuts.
-
I did not thing about the backing plate. The cost of the plates changes the calculation.

I know that the ST can have two different rotors. I am wondering if they are interchangeable? From what I have read, both the standard and performance package use the same calipers, with the PP calipers painted red. The steering knuckle is the same on both versions of the ST. For some reason the price for the Powerstop Evolution kit is cheaper for the ST Performance kit.

What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?
johnmarkp replied to WWWPerfA_ZN0W's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Did fluids on the my 2019 ST. The oil change is no big deal. PTU is a pain. I drained the unit by removing the cooler bolts and just sliding the cooler out enough to let the fluid drain. Those bolts are not easy to get at. I think the two bolts alone, took over an hour to remove and replace. I filled it using one of those 500ml syringe things you see on Amazon. The differential is easy except getting the input plug out. It is a 3/8 square female plug. Should be easy, but Ford puts a cross brace in the way. I ended up partially rounding the end of an extension to make it a square ball. I used Ford fluids for the PTU and Differential. $79 for both at the dealer. -
Jack points and jack stand placements?
johnmarkp replied to Vortechtral's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
The title kind of says it all. The service manual says that you can only use the jack points on the body to jack the Edge. That is where I want to put the jack stands. Where is a good place(s) to use a floor jack to raise the vehicle to put it one stands? -
What the dealer is saying is BS. I added the radar to my 2019. The sensor is right behind the shield part of the lower grill. I cannot imagine any way that the bracket could be broken without damage to the lower grill shield. It is much more likely that the lower grill was replaced after an impact that also broke the bracket. Look at the area around the lower grill to see if there is any damage. I could see a scenario where the whole front bumper was replaced by a dealer. They did not want to spend an extra two grand on the radar. The dealer would be forced to use all new Ford parts. Did you see a Carfax by any chance? I bet it was in an accident. I would raise holy hell with the dealer. They have to do a full inspection in order to offer a Ford extended warranty. Did they give you an inspection report? They need to disclose that the fact that the car was not up to spec. I am 99% sure that you have the cheaper of the two brackets. (22AA). You can buy a new sensor on ebay for a couple of hundred bucks. There is a chance that the sensor is still working. However, for $200 I would replace it. Removing the bumper is actually pretty easy. The whole job can be done in a couple of hours.

That amp should really kit ass even with the low power being applied. You might have to update the rest of your system to keep up. -

The body is only as good a ground as the connection between it and the negative terminal of the battery. I am pretty sure that there are several connections on the Edge.
