911 assist error and dealer cannot fix it.
wlepse replied to rusty813's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Great post...didn't even think about airbags status being an issue. Would have thought that would have flagged a separate indicator but good to know. -
Well yes and no on the highway....I find the V6 is often downshifting ont he highway to pass at a moderate rate or go up fairly easy grades. I don't know for sure but if they are using the tranny gearing the EB will likely be very similar in this regard if not more so. If you downshift you are back in the boost so you will likely see a more significant drop. But again I don't have one so I can't confirm but I wouldn't be too surprised if the increase in MPG is less that expected and it takes a lot longer to get back that premium you pay for the EB upfront. As for the roof...at least for the 2011 it was either pano or nothing so I would imagine that is still the case but you should be bale to build one on the Ford site to confirm.

Not sure if this unit is compatible with the MFT but saw this deal and it is reall cheap! For 10 bucks you get the USB 4G device and a 15 buck refill card just figured I would pass it along. http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Phones/cell-phone-detail.aspx?class=prepaid&cell-phone=T-Mobile-Jet-2.0-Laptop-Stick-Refurbished

I wouldn't say the rewritten software for MFT has fixed it. For some like myself it is a lot better but there are still glitches. But at least overall system stability has improved. I would recommend when you find one you like you spend some time pairing your phone and really pushing the limits of the system to see how it does since there seems to be a wide variety of experiences. So there maybe some hardware issues/conflicts with some. Not having EB I can't say much about the MPG but I will say that turbocharged engines can be very efficient but only if you stay out of the boost. But boost is why you buy them because you like the feel of power and torque...so often you don't quite get what you think. My last vehicle was a modified Subaru Legact GT and if I really got on it the instantaneous MGP would read 3-5, so if you really get on it at every light you're not going to do very well. But if I drove relatively normal I would get 25mpg. So driving style will play the biggest part.

I have had several turbo vehicles and while I do like them I am not sure I would want the small displacement turbo in something like the Edge. You reference new midsize sedans..honestly I think they are a much better fit there. As it is I think the large front engine creates enough drag that climbing hills on the highway causes the tranny to downshift often with the V6, so I would expect the turbo do do this even more. Not only does this lack the refinement I would like to see in something like the Edge, I have also found that tapping into the boost really drops your MPG's so much of the benefit of the smaller displacement is lost. Personally I think they need the V6 to differentiate it from the Escape...while I would love to see the Eco Boost V6 in an Edge I think they would need to save that for an Explorer or the MKX.

I haven't had ours for long but we do have ~12k on the clock and have been following this forum for a while so I can say that the bulk of the complaints are with the MFT and if you get AWD many have had issues with the PTU seals. Some have also experienced issues with the trans but this was particular build dates and there is a TSB to fix the problem. Other than that the engines appear to be very reliable and other issues seem to be minor.

Actually that would be a deal breaker for me if they did that. My buddy had an older pickup that had the spare underneath and when he needed it 7 yrs later the mechanism to release and lower it was so badly rusted we couldn't get it free. Maybe it is just our area since they use so much salt in the winter but either way I would rather have to spend 15 minutes to unload and reload the car than wait for a tow.

Matching "Deep Impact Blue" on license plate holder plugs
wlepse replied to Fkit's topic in Exterior & Body
Do a search for windshield washer jets...or something to that effect. Dingo painted his black jets white to match and it looked spot on. But I think he did a mix of touch up paint and clear or maybe he just used a thinner, can't remember. Found the thread: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/8976-windshield-squirters/ he airbrushed them with primer-> then touch up paint -> then clear. -
I hardly think the software has been fixed...there are still plenty of known bugs. As for no reason to believe the MFT will have more issues than a standard head unit...that is just crazy. More parts+more complex=more likely to have issues. It is also concerning that myself as well as many others have reported that certain versions worked better than others which to me indicates that there is some conflict in the way the software runs with some hardware. When I had 2.8 I had a few problems, went to 2.11 and it was horrible. You and many others suggested it was an APIM, it was replaced with no benefit. Then all of a sudden the rewrite comes and that same APIM seems to work much better. Nothing changed but software. So there is some concern that even if they continue to provide new releases that I may revert back to having more problems. You read my statement of if they are planning on supporting it as a current or past tense thing. I am referring to the future, this is an unknown. At some point they will stop supporting the system it is just a matter of whether they fix everything before they move on. You also say to just get the APIM replaced, this is always your response even in light of the fact mentioned above that the current APIM I have was no improvement with 2.11 but all of a sudden is mostly OK with the rewrite and some have seen the exact opposite. You also make it seem like it is as easy to get it replaced as you saying it. I have already been to the dealer I purchased it from, they tested it and said it is fine. I have since called two other local dealers and they don't seem to want to touch it. Both gave vague references to Ford working on the fixes. I see their reluctance to work on it as an indication they don't have confidence they can fix it either. With that lack of confidence I would rather sit tight with what I have and see what Ford comes up with.

Sorry to hear yours is worse off with the update. For me the update is more stable but still has plenty of quirks. Out of curiosity, do you randomly get the indication saying you have no GPS signal in random locations but you can go through another time and it doesn't appear? Mine does this on occasion and it drives me crazy because the cluster display will say I am off route and give a big question mark. Also on 2.11 my position on the display was always lagging behind actual position. But with the update I would say it is pretty damn close about 95% of the time but now sometimes has me ahead of my actual position. Problem is it sometimes tells you to make a u turn thinking you missed your turn when you haven't.
-
I never said there weren't people w/o issues but you asked how many I knew without and I gave my honest answer. But again I have decided to wait to see if I am going to be in the group with minimal/no issues with the above mentioned parts or if I will fall in the other category. But so far as normcloutier pointed out there is a lot of tech in these vehicles and so far the MFT hasn't proven to be reliable. I am hoping Ford can turn that around but they have a long way to go to restore faith in the system. After all, those of us that had issues were told to wait for the rewrite that it would fix all these issues. While mine does seem better it still isn't right and some have gotten worse performance. So who knows what the future will hold with this system and if they are even planning on supporting it.

Actually I do not know anyone that has an Edge that hasn't had an issue, whether it be the MFT or a PTU. The barber I go to bought a used one last year and also had to have a PTU replaced but it was purchased with as a CPO so there was nothing out of pocket. I don't disagree that Ford must be making money on these otherwise they wouldn't sell them. But they also diversify their risks over several models and builds. So some may be better a better risk than others. For instance, while they do charge extra for AWD it isn't much considering the complexity of the system and the higher than normal failure rate of the PTU's. Also they don't differentiate what other optional equipment you have. So a stripped down SE gets charged the same as a fully loaded Limited. Obviously one has a lot more chances to have something go wrong. So it could be on some models/builds they actually lose some money but obviously overall they come out ahead. Also the other thing you don't take into account is Fords actually costs to do repairs is significantly less than ours. So while my out of pocket might be $2k for a PTU it might only cost them $750. So a $1500 policy is a win win for both parties.
-
I hear you but at the same time I have a buddy at work that had to replace his PTU at 65k which cost him nearly $2k and I saw a posting here were someone paid around 2k to have their BAMR replaced because the guides went bad which caused the motors to go if I remember correctly. Then throw in the MFT that is still not functioning well and I am left with three things that could cost big $. If it were just one of these thing I was concerned about I would skip it, but three big items is cause for concern. But like I said I may just sit tight and see what the first 30k or so brings us. If things feel relatively solid and they fix some of these MFT issues I'll likely take my chances. But if I have a PTU issue like some with 11's have had by 15k I will be buying a warranty.
-
I am still on the fence with this one. I have never even considered buying an extended warranty in the past but with all the issues I have seen with PTU's and BAMR I am very concerned. Plus I am still concerned about the MFT over the long haul since many controls are only available through the interface. But since the price doesn't increase much if I wait (and certainly a lot cheaper than dealer offered) I will wait and see. If things seem questionable I will likely pick one up through one of the online retailers.

Yeah I am the opposite...I can't stand the heat. I am one of those people that rarely wears a coat in the winter so I am a bit more cold tolerant but the heat just makes me insane. I would much rather have the fans cranking away and get the temp down as fast as possible. To me it is all about the area under the curve...sure the fan is annoying but if the fan is on high it will cool down quick and then back off. So I am only in a hot and loud environment for a short time. But if it does have the flow I am hotter for a lot longer. Again personal preference but I can't believe too many people would prefer to sit in a hot car longer especially if they are dressed for work and get all swampy.

I think it was in the upper 80's and I don't think the recirc light came on. I think it did light up when I hit max AC though but no change in airflow...at least not that I could tell by sound levels or feel. Funny thing is after posting the message above mine did as you describe. So it must be some function of outside/inside air temps. Not really sure what to make of it but wonder what is actually controlling the system. I know in the past with 2.11 a few times the MFT glitched out bad and we had no heat or any control of the system. If the MFT is actually controlling the system and not just relaying set points to another controller then maybe some of this is just MFT quirks.

c_bova mentioned it is thought the card gets locked to the vehicle some how but it is not know how and to be honest I am not sure if this have really been tested to confirm. But if the card does lock to the vehicle after "initialization" the ones on Ebay could be suspect. But yes she could always get one from the dealer but I thought someone was quoted $200 for the card, the ones on Ebay are around 40. Was just throwing up a possible cheaper option. But again I think best bet would be if someone here had one and would be willing to sell it cheap or just have her pay shipping...at least you could feel a bit better that you're not getting taken.
-
I have seen some of the new ones on Ebay but I have no idea if they will work for you. I don't think anyone has confirmed yet if the system writes something to the card when it is forst inserted that locks it to the vehicle or if there is some other way it determines if you are to have nav on the vehicle. I do know Dingo sent an unused card to someone and it worked but who know's for sure what you are getting on Ebay. I have also tried backing mine up but I don't think I am getting a true copy so I can't even give you a reliable image to install on another card. Maybe you'll get lucky and someone here has an extra.

Suggested mods (stocking stuffers) for the wife?
wlepse replied to wlepse's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Well reviving this thread from the dead...a few weeks back on the way home from work I got a frantic call from my wife that was overly dramatic about how she set the place on fire. The truth was somewhere between the place being on fire and using a lighter...closer to a lighter. But non the less she did manage to set a piece of tuperware on fire. Apparently a few days before she hid it in the oven to keep it away from our little guy and forgot about it. Then turned on the oven to 450F and when it beeped that it was at temp she opened it to see flames. Luckily no one was hurt and nothing was damaged, except for the tuperware. But this reinforces the special steps that need to be taken if she is working in the kitchen. Oh and man was that a PITA to clean up. Between the fire extiguisher dust and melted plastic I was at it for hours. -
Haven't heard of that one before and I don't think you can reprogram the remotes like on VAG products to open/close the windows. So sounds like either someone is having some fun at your expense or you have a wiring issue. Seems very strange.
-
i20sailor...I would take it in and have them check it. I double checked mine today and ours definitely is using full fan speed with recirc in auto. I started the car and it was in auto and fans were kicking hard, then hit max AC and no difference other than changing temp to Lo, switching back to auto the fans stayed the same but as mentioned by cv27 the temp stayed at Lo which is kind of dumb.

Ours isn't loose but we have a squeaky drivers seat belt. I keep trying to get the dealer to replace it since nothing they do fixes it but I have had no luck in getting a resolution with them. I may just buy the part myself and do it to save my own sanity.

I do not like the new MFT update.
wlepse replied to ELation's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I have been told they can't/won't. When I upgraded from 2.8 to 2.11 all hell broke loose and the system went from marginal to horrible and they still wouldn't do anything but tell me to wait for the rewrite that was supposed to fix everything. Luckily for me it is a bit more stable but there are still penty of issues. I just hope Ford is still going to do something about it. -
Factory remote start stopped working
wlepse replied to wlepse's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
Well I guess I was kind of expecting this. I took the car in on the 16th, they confirmed the switch appeared to be missing and said they needed to schedule the installer to come in and troubleshoot the system. Well fast forward to today, they have my Edge and still haven't done any troubleshooting. So first question I have is; does anyone have teh manual for the bidirectional remote start? I have installation info but it doesn't give you any diagnostics for what horn honking/flashing hazards means. Dealer is trying to tell me Ford circumvents their own safety devices from teh factory which I know is total BS. Just figured if I had this I could prove to them that the hood switch is the issue. Sad that they have had the car all day and have done nothing to diagnose the issue. Second request...does anyone have a copy of WSM Section 303-01? My remote start functioned fine up until the last service visit when they performed several TSB's one of which was 11-11-15. This requires them to remove the cam cover to access the cams and I beleive it is for the front bank. Since teh engine sits so low I suspect they had to remove the grill (Where switch mounts) to get easier access. Would just like to have something else to show them. I realize it is only a $20 part but just really pisses me off...its the principle not the cost. -
Getting the Song title to display
wlepse replied to richy's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Also strange is that if you use USB it will display artist and song on the home screen. So there really is no good reason like you say that they can't do this.
