SD Navigation card - showing my true cheapness
wlepse replied to ShopVac's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Thanks...I'll have to send mine in. just can't imagine they are getting much for these. Brand new name brand class 10 cards are going for less than $1/GB, so by the time they process these they can't be making much of anything. -
SD Navigation card - showing my true cheapness
wlepse replied to ShopVac's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
tried to do the same figuring I could use it somewhere if nothing else as a back up but had the same issues. I did notice that the package Ford sent included info somewhere on where to send the old card to donate it...so I am guessing there is a way to do it otherwise they would be of no value to a charitable organization. If anyone has that info please let me know...got rid of the package before I wrote it down. -
yeah there are a few...check out etrailer.com. They have a few listed and I believe have install videos so you can see just how easy it is to do yourself.

Wow crossovers look pretty big...where did you mount them? What drivers are you using?
-
I wonder if they found a hardware conflict in the old APIM's that they knew would be incompatible with the new software/drivers or just more likely to cause an issue. That would explain why some had much better luck than others on the same software and why people like myself haad few problems with 2.8 but found 2.11 to be much worse.

MFT report your successful installations or problems
wlepse replied to exodus's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Well did notice one really nice feature today on the way home. When it was navigating a route the veiw was dependent on speed. It only seemed to have three levels of zoom but still pretty nice that it automatically zooms in as you slow down and out as you speed up. The only thing I wish they would consider adding to nav would be to have it automatically switch to the maps screen when a turn is coming up. -

Sorry missed this post before...yes, if I recall correctly the system was navigating me home and I was trying to play with BT audio. I believe I had to press the BT audio button twice to actually get it to play but this time it did nothing and just sat there. No audio output, screen didn't respond to touch and eventually it rebooted with the "performing scheduled maintenance" splash screen. Was aware of the differences between fuse pulls, master resets and reboots. Since I was having mild issues this morning I was hoping to just reboot on the fly but didn't see it as an option anymore so I tried the master reset. Was surprised to see they must do something to retain some settings since it recognized my phone as being previously connected...I don't remember that with previous versions. -

I can double check the drive after formatting and reloading the music but I do recall disconnecting and reconnecting the drive a few times and didn't have an issue. Also I have several portable drives that I use regularly and have never seen any of them write protected. Also would have expected if my computer was locking it down it would also allow me to unlock. I have other encrypted flash drives (for work) and that is the way they work. Also the computer I am using is Windows based, but I can try another Windows based machine just to double check. I'll do the test you suggest with a lot less music so I don't waste as much time indexing and such. jRE...so when you are browsing and see a list of artist....you can select the artist and see the albums right? Are you saying you have another button that allows you to "play all" from there? -
Getting more done with a bad hip than most people are doing. Why did you remove the foam around the speakers? Not an audiophile so not sure what benefit that would bring, would have thought they help dampen outside noises.

MFT report your successful installations or problems

You really need to take a step back....this thread title does include "problems" and what I posted were all new observations from this mornings ride. I also made it clear I do plan on taking it in for the dealer to look at. You also mention that most of my symptoms point to bad hardware...how does bad hardware write protect a drive? Or where has this been mentioned before? I haven't seen it even on the bug listing site. Your posts would be a lot more helpful if you tried to answer the questions I had so I would know if these features or functionality is supposed to exist. I would hate to waste my time as well as the dealers if I am just mistaken on what it is designed to do. Dingo...you mention that USB works fine for you. Mine does play but have you noticed write protection on your drives? Do you have the ability to chose play all for an artist? -

Wow I can't even express how disappointed I am in this Ford rewrite. Last night I confirmed that for the second time the system has put write protection on my USB HDD, but I also confirmed that there were nearly 15k tracks on the drive but when I connected to the MFT this morning I get just over 10k. I have no idea what is happening there. Also I could swear in the past if I browsed by artist I had a button to play all. If not for all albums at least at the album level. I don't have this anymore. Was also playing with nav and while I find the position accuracy is much better the screen write times are horrible. Twice when I got the prompt to make a turn I tried to switch back to the nav screen only to find the top of the screen (direction I am heading) blank. Luckily I know my way to work but if I were travelling in an unknown area this would be a major fail. I did notice that switching to the nav screen when the split screen isn't present seems to make the rendering faster. Was also trying to use voice commands and again this seemed to be a major fail. I thought in past revisions I could say "play artist" then artist name. This no longer works, I can say "browse artist" but all it does is bring up the screen with artist listing and stops the voice commands session. Am I just remembering wrong how this used to work? Could be the case since we haven't been able to use USB for months. So with all these issues again I decided I needed to reset the system. I thought with 2.11 I had the choice of a restart and master reset. It seems with the rewrite I just have master reset. Again...am I remembering this wrong? Either way I did the master reset and tried to play USB. In the past it would play the first few tracks while indexing. This time it shows the meta data and album artwork but doesn't play, indicates it is indexing but never does. So I disconnected the drive, reinstalled it and got a message saying it was unrecognized. Tried again and got a message saying no USB, third time it saw the drive and started indexing but again doesn't actually do anything. I tried the other USB port and it just doesn't recognize the drive. So I think whatever write protection they put on the drive affects its ability to sync up after a master reset. Also when I tried to repair my phone it acknowledged that it was paired before and asked if I wanted to use the same settings. I clicked yes but it still walked me through all the steps...not sure if anyone else has seen this. Overall I don't see how this is an improvement over the old software. I guess it is back to Ford for me and see if there is anything they can do to make this system useable. -
Honestly I hate those gauges in the cluster and the text at the bottom has poor contrast. So for me it is a big deal to lose the temp display. I still can't figure out the rhyme or reason to the cluster display...sometimes under entertainment I have AM/FM, Sirius and CD; sometimes we have USB as an option sometimes AV but never BT. So I can't even be bothered with the display since I never know if it will have the feature I want avaialble. For me it is just easier to work with the touch screen,so I would prefer all the info be there.

I am pretty sure I did a master reset after the install...then had a crash shortly there after. But since then it has been OK but I'll have the car tomorrow so I can confirm if there are any other quirks. To those using a USB HDD can you disconnect your drive and try to modify the contents? First time I thought it was a fluke but just tonight I took the drive out of the car to add playlists that I forgot last time but the drive is write protected again. So now I am wondering if it is just my system or if they did this by accident. I hope they fix this because it is really agrevating to have to format then reload 60GB of music just to add a playlist or new album. If this is their way of cutting the indexing time they need to find another solution. -
But are the shocks on the 3.7 different than the 3.5? I know the springs are different but wasn't sure about the shocks. Personally though I wouldn't worry about it too much, you aren't going to turn the Edge into an race car, so worst case you may wear them out faster. Then at that point you can look for upgrades but from what I have seen there really isn't much of an aftermarket for the Edge.

I too am interested. Wondering if future updates will also be like this so anyone with nav would have to pay for upgraded maps if they want to update the MFT base software. I highly doubt Ford will be so nice in the future and supply free map updates again. Tough if they want to I am fine with that.

Where in Germany? And exodus...that would be a cool idea. I know it is a haul for you but the Subaru site I was involved with used to meet up in Bear Mountain. Some nice roads to drive, a little zoo for the kids as well as boating and hiking for those interested and plenty of picnic areas with grills. So it was a nice day for everyone with plenty of food.

MFT report your successful installations or problems

Unfortunately for me it is a USB HDD so there is no syncing but I will keep playing with it. Discovered something strange...if anyone is using a USB HDD can you confirm if you drive is now write protected? I brought the drive in to check album art and add some playlists but found the drive to be write protected. This drive never was before, not even sure how to do this with an external enclosure. Let me know if anyone else sees this too. -

I got my USB HDD connected today and noticed that quite often there is no cover art either. But since the field is blank I am wondering if it is a file size issue since nothing shows and Gracenotes should be set as secondary. I thought a found another bug but haven't been able to get it to do it again; while playing music and going through the settings, I had backed up slightly and then put it in drive. Well the back up camera image never went away but wasn't live. So the background to ever screen was the old image. After a couple restarts it wwent away but very strange. -
ALBUM ART DISAPPEARED

Mine seems hit and miss so I am wondering if there is a limit to the file size or something. -
Post Upgrade Navigation Question
wlepse replied to jeffdelta's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
My area is pretty well established but the few new roads in town that weren't on the last map are on this one but like I mentioned above it shows a road that I don't think ever existed but certainly not in the last 20 years. -

I have the same issue with the frequency display dissapearing and yes returns in the same way. Out of curiosity do you use BT audio streaming? If so do you have to select it twice to get it to play? Can you browse the phones music or get the meta data to display? Mine doesn't. Also when you stop the playback through the MFT does the phones music player still stay active but paused? Wondering if we have the same corrupted/missing file. Thinking back to my crash it was when I was messing with BT. -
My Ford Touch update Installed!!
wlepse replied to Candy Edge's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Well I guess we'll see what Ford will even do. I do think there must be a hardware issue/conflict of some sort but I do think the software is still full of bugs. Typically hardware issues are more random in nature (with some exceptions) but software bugs are repeatable and several of the things I have seen are repeatable. -
Our phones are connecting instantly too and background noise has improved substantially. Just nice to be able to use the phones again. Now if I can get the BT audio working and get a chance to test the USB HDD. I can live without the BT audio if the USB HDD works and the system doesn't crash.

Post Upgrade Navigation Question
wlepse replied to jeffdelta's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Yeah mine is much improved. I do see some new streets but as I mentioned in another thread it also added a street that isn't there and hasn't been there for at least 20+ years. Also noticed I am not getting the red X over GPS indicating I am without signal but twice saw the icon jump off the road and travel parallel so I am not sure if they just removed this indicator or it was a little glitch in the graphics. One glitch I was able to repeat twice today, while navigating home in the same place when I make the turn it tells me to it starts to tell me the next turn then stops and says make a legal u turn, then goes back to teh next instruction. But I was never going the wrong way....very strange. Wonder if anyone is seeing anyting similar.
