Sport Grille Emblem/Chrome Surround Blackout [PICS]
wlepse replied to picturemerollin's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Very nice. How much did the whole thing run? Planning on making the rear emblem match? -
I have been to that site and posted there as well. But what they are most concerned about is the additive packages being sufficient for the long haul. It is true that most oils now are quite stable and can resist breakdown better than ever but these same tests they are doing don't tell the whole story. There are other things that have to be factored in. A perfect example is my last ride. I did my oil changes between 3500-5000 miles but still after about 110k I started having warning signs of low oil pressure. The dealer did indicate there was some sludge on the banjo bolt filters but that everything was OK now and just suggested OCI's of 3k...I think Subaru recommended 7500. A few oil changes later I sent samples off to Blackstone and they came back perfect...did another right after that and according to them the engine was in perfect health and oil had plenty of life left at 3k. Bu at about 120k I started to get a slight rod knock. This continued to get worse until I decided I had to let it go. So my point is, just because a manufacturer calculates a certain OCI doesn't mean it is right. As mentioned above the OCI was 7500, mine never went over 5k and I still got sludge and my oil analysis was perfect. Another good example of a manufacturer being wrong was Audi with the 1.8T...they recommended 10K on dino oil, we always did 5k on M1 and it is still running at over 200k but many others had theirs bit the dust around 100k. Now you may be right that under most circumstances you can follow their recommendations and still have a healthy engine past 200k but if they were wrong you are SOL. For the extra $600 bucks it might cost over 200k (about 10yrs) I would rather be conservative.

You were able to communicate with the Edge? The BT OBD2 device you have, is it the one I linked to on Amazon or is the blue bodied one?
-
I keep thinking about picking up one of those bluetooth OBD2 devices. I currently have a serial cable and software on a laptop to communicate with my older Audi but since the car is getting on in mileage I am expecting to get more frequent CEL and thought it would be nice to be able to have a device ready to go in the car. But from what I read these devices seem to have spotty reliability and often don't work with older VAG products. But since they were cheap enough I thought about giving it a shot figuring it would work for the Edge. But as I kept reading reviews it appears as if many Ford's don't work well with these. So I was wondering if anyone here has used one, particularly on the Edge and what your thoughts were. For those that don't know what I am talking about: http://www.amazon.com/Elandpower-Bluetooth-Scanner-OBDII-Diagnostic/dp/B004B7YXOM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1343935493&sr=8-2&keywords=bluetooth+odb2 This with the Torque application on your android allows you to communicate with the vehicle and get all sorts of info...though what vehicles it works with may be questionable.

Ford uses a semi synthetic but I am like ladybird. Too many manufacturers are pushing their OCI's out to look more environmentally friendly and decreased cost of ownership. But I have owned two vehicles that others have had major problems with based on the manufacturers recommendations. I change the oil in the Edge every 5k, to me it is cheap insurance and since I plan to keep the vehicle long past the powertrain warranty it will be me left paying the big repair bill later.

Very unusual to have a timing chain break...but with such low miles it was likely do to a defect in the manufacturing. No matter what Ford or any other manufacturer does they will still have such issues in very rare instances. Good thing is they are going to replace the whole engine. I would have definitely pushed back if they wanted to put a rebuilt engine in or rebuild yours. Then you are relying on someone's skills that may or may not do it often. Where the new motor will come from Ford's engine plant. As for it affecting resale, it is a possibility but at least for me I wouldn't expect a discount on such a vehicle. If you kicked it at 30k I would be suspicious of your driving habits and what else may have been abused and not be willing to pay as much, but that is just my thoughts. As for the system going back together right...I wouldn't be too concerned. There are so many sensors on these engines that monitor just about everything and how they are working with each other you'll likely get some error code if something isn't right. But if I were you I would be on the phone with Ford customer service and expressing your concern and push for an extended warranty. I also wouldn't accept just powertrain since there is a chance (slim) something else could get damaged and not show up for a while. I think if you deal with them and keep your cool but be persistent you'll find a resolution everyone can be happy with.

Problems with Bluetooth/phone
wlepse replied to guillaume69's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I have it "working" but am not that thrilled with it. Could just be my system but when it reads the message it doesn't mute the audio source of even lower teh volume like it does for nav directions. I'll have to play with it some more but it isn't something I want to mess with while driving. Maybe the next time the wife is doing some shopping I can sit in the car and play. -
Problems with Bluetooth/phone

I don't think the iPhone will support text messaging until the next iOS -
I am guessing since you said you deleted the phone from the MFT after the master resets I will assume you have the rewritten software. If that is the case I would delete the pairing on the phone and MFT and reboot your phone. Then try again. If that isn't working then I would go to the dealer and have them sort it out. It could be a bad BT module or APIM.

Problems with Bluetooth/phone
wlepse replied to guillaume69's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
First I would try deleting the pairings on both the MFT and phones, reboot the phones then try again. If you still have trouble you can try a fuse pull or master reset. As for the MFT asking for access to the phone...I just got this recently too. By any chance is your phone a Samsung? I just picked up a test phone and found that after the update the MFT was asking for access to the phone for the text messaging feature. Just wondering if this is something Samsung is starting to push out. -
Possible to install side/cross-sensors after the fact?
wlepse replied to DavidStruff's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Well it seems like the sensors in the front and rear bumpers are fairly trouble free, but the rear cross path/blind spot ones have had some issues. My guess is the harness isn't there since they didn't put the harness in for the vertical LED lights on the SE's. -
Possible to install side/cross-sensors after the fact?
wlepse replied to DavidStruff's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Anything can be done, just a matter of how much it will cost. My guess is this is one of those that will be very expensive. Even if the wiring is in place for the sensors in the back, you'd need to get it programmed and the mirrors swapped out. Again not sure if the wiring is there for the blind spot monitoring. You also might want to poke around looking for problems regarding this system. As I recall several people have posted about blocked sensor errors. Not sure this is worth the risk of spending all that money and not getting it working right. -
Led\HID install questions
wlepse replied to NYEdge914's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
If you have 9005's for the highs I would suggest looking at HIR bulbs. I had them in my last ride and they are very bright. You do give up a little intensity to HID but you gain faster response and less headaches since it is a filament bulb. Some of the HID kits don't like being turned on and off. I know some have gotten better in this regard but still it seems like you are stressing the ballast when you can get 90% of the performance easy with HIR. Check out this site on modifying the nothces to get them to fit. http://store.candlepower.com/mohirbuba.html -
Can't believe these aren't gone...if only they were a match to ours I would pick them up.

Question with Ac\Heating filter install
wlepse replied to NYEdge914's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Wow that is dirty. Since none of us are there it is tough to say if it is really too loud. But there really isn't anything you could do to make it louder. Maybe just double check that the door is latched. Maybe the air is bypassing the filter out the door and you are hearing that??? -
Question with Ac\Heating filter install
wlepse replied to NYEdge914's topic in Accessories & Modifications
I recently did mine but didn't notice a change in sound levels. How dirty was it? Did you replace it with the same filter? Just wondering if the old one was so dirty the flow was greatly decreased and muffled the sound or the new one is made by another manufacturer and you are getting more air flow. -
Nice but a lot of work. A buddy of mine has a 300 and on one of the forums he goes to there is a guy that does this kind of work. I think he originally started because the OEM LEDs were prone to burning out. But he does color changes etc...if anyone is interested I can probably track down the guys info and you can see if he would be willing to do the Edge too.

I am like you Dingo...I use the credit card for everything that will take it. Might as well get the cashback and the short term intrest free loan. Besides the wife forgets about the cash back and I can use it for little fun things that she doesn't need to know about.

Samsung Note compatable with Sync voice message
wlepse replied to KonaBlueSport's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I just picked up a cheap Samsung to test out another service and was surprised that the phone supported reading the texts. My original plan was to use something like vlingo and have it read the text messages and send messages with voice activation. Ironically the phone I got (Exhibit 2) doesn't show up on the compatibility chart as being able to do texts. But it did just receive and OTA update so maybe that is when it got activated. -
2013 EDGE CENTER CONSOLE TRAY
wlepse replied to Texasopa's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Makes sense...you probably lose at least 1/4" all the way around. Might have to go to the dealer to check one out since the wifes large sunglass case barely fits. -

Is that the piece that goes under the console...that small pass thru area from the drivers to passengers side? -
Hello and a question! Ford Edge MD 2011 and MY 2012
wlepse replied to jns2001's topic in Welcome Forum!
I don't recall reading that there was a build change on the 2012's like there was on the 2011's. But I think there is some indication of the build change on the sticker but I am sure someone here can clarify what to look for. -

Thanks...I did see that the other day after you posted your pics but wasn't sure either and figured I would try a local dealer and see what their price is. I am guessing 51.03 is the list price so you should be able to do better.
