I don't know if Ford uses a special break in oil but since their standard oil is a 5W20 synthetic blend you should be just fine with stock fill. Unless it is brutally cold and then you probably should be inside with a beer anyway.

Ford PremiumCare ESP and Premium Maintenance Plans
wlepse replied to wlepse's topic in Recalls, TSBs & Warranty
That is what I found...but I think it might vary on options you pick. Also some of the sites play games by making you sign up and they periodically send out discount codes to bring the prices down but still for me Flood came out the best. -
Stopping the behavior of locking you out or having the GF not give you crap? If the later no chance. There is one company that makes a device to unlock all features while in motion (NavTV) but it is expensive...like $425. As for the MP3's...I believe the system uses the info in the ID3 tags. So if this info is not correct it doesn't matter how you organize the music onthe drive. But if you hit the browse button you should have the ability to search by artist, album, playlist etc.

Occasional transmission slipping upon starting after stop.
wlepse replied to dudley's topic in 2011 Edge & MKX
NP...hope it helps. As Wilson66604 mentioned I think having the TSB in hand is helpful, especially if you have complained about it in the past. Honestly they should know about it and should just do the work since it isn't likely they will be able to recreate the issue in a short test drive but I think they try to cover their a$$es to make sure they get paid by Ford. -
Rack itself looks nice...just worried about the load on the trunk spoiler. Let us know how things go with it fully loaded. I doubt I would feel comfortable with my downhill bike on that but I might be OK with the lighter road or XC bikes. Please keep us posted, my hitch rack is on its way out. Might be able to get anotehr season or two out of it but it is heavy and will only owrk on teh Edge. Something like this I could adapt to either vehicle.

Occasional transmission slipping upon starting after stop.
wlepse replied to dudley's topic in 2011 Edge & MKX
We had the same thing and just got the dealer to do something after two previous tries. They performed a repair based on a TSB, I don't have a copy of it handy but if you search around it covers both this slipping sensation and the harsh bump. If you read it there are a couple of criteria you need to meet but it is easy enough to check yourself to see if it would apply. So far after the work it seems much smoother and some of the harsh shifting we had is gone. -
Keep pushing with the dealer and Ford, some that have had issues like this have gotten things fixedor made significantly better by getting a new APIM. For me this hasn't worked and they still claim everything is functioning normally. I wish this were the case but I stillget a bunch of random errors but I would say most are with USB and Nav.

Looks good...what size are those wheels 20"?
-
I have seen forcing the issue insisting that the drive is recognized does sometimes work but I have also seen where it will go to browse and music only to see it list zero artists and songs. It also seems to do this randomly, meaning not just at start up. When I described this to tech support int he past they were aware of the problem but seemed to have no solution other than say they had a complete rewrite coming. Now that I have the rwrite the dealer says they are still working on it.
-
I even had the drive not recognized error with the Ford 2GB flash drive they sent with the update. And acccording to my dealer my system tests out OK. I still think I have a hardware issue, whether it be an actual bad part or just a bad combination of parts that doesn't quite work with the software....like a bad driver. It is the only way I can make sense of this since 2.8 was relatively stable for us, 2.11 was horrible and so far 3.02 (or what ever they call it) is as stable as 2.8 but is slightly buggier. Or at least more consistent bugs...maybe that is a feature then. But the drive issue was somewhat present in 2.8, very prevalent in 2.11 and eventually just stopped all together and 3.02 is about the same as 2.8 but now write protects my drive.
-
But to your point if you format in the correct format it shouldn't matter the size of the drive (if supported by format). So with that said if a 16GB and 32GB drive are both formatted the same way and one is less reliable this IS an issue with MFT. The same drives will function flawlessly on any computer you connect them to so again this points to some sort of bug or deficiency in the MFT.

Is it possible to add drawers to the Edge?
wlepse replied to baespey's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
I haven't seen it done in an Edge but have seen a bunch of similar things at the downhill park. Since most of the people keep all their gear, parts, food etc in the vehicle you'll see a lot of this sort of thing. Most I have seen used those cheap plastic drawers you can get at Target or Walmart. But most didn't look they were fitted to the vehicle, but they were functional. -
ChiEdge...is you device formatted in FAT32 or ExFAT?
-
Well if this was directed at me maybe you should read. The OP stated that the drive is recognized at some point then stops, I confirmed such errors. The link you provided only discusses how to connect and what is required not why a drive would connect some times and others not. And yes this has been discussed with SMR, IVT, the regional manager and the local dealer. According to them the system is fine and they can find no problems. I have not seen this happen as frequently with the updated software but it still happens. What I have seen is that it write protects my drive and to change the drive contents I need to reformat first and start over. Again, my vehicle was just in this week and the dealer claims all hardware is 100% but did say they are aware of the bugs and they are still working on it.
-
Nothing to do with software on the drive...I get this from time to time and if you disconnect and reconnect sometimes it works sometimes not. Sometimes a restart of the system works but really it just seems random. I have even had it say it wasn't recognized then randomly switch audio from another source to USB and work fine. I think this is just another one of the MFT quirks.

Wow is that guy paranoid. As Waldo mentioned the current GPS chips do not transmit but it is possible they could in the future. But realistically speaking why would they want to do this? The cost to implement a system to sort all this data would be tremendous. Satellite based communication is just out of the question so this would pretty much leave cellular service to transmit the data. I highly doubt the current networks could support this added bandwidth not to mention many areas have no coverage. I would think this will just be stored locally and probably only the last few minutes. Would I be happy about it no, but I also don't think it is the Big Brother thing he is portraying.

Sorry no idea and from what I have read in other posts Ford will say it is a Sirius issue and Sirius will say it is a Ford issue. I beleive somewhere in the system though you can verify what subscriptions you have activated...I would poke around and confirm that first.

Just got mine back too and yes it is a much nicer ride than that Freestyle. They actually did a bunch of the work I requested which is a change but they still won't do anything with the MFT. As much as we like the Edge I think we may have to pursue a lemon law to get out. I can't take the chance the wife and little man driving around without heat again this winter.

2011 Edge/MKX My Touch and Sync Problems
wlepse replied to akirby's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Sure but not until they got it working. Mine still doesn't function anything like what I was sold. Just got the car back from the dealer and they tell me everything is fine because they couldn't replicate the issues. The update has seemed to help stability but there are still so many bugs I can't belive Ford made people wait this long to still have the same problems. When I dropped the car off I was told they are still working on it. I just hope if Ford does revamp the whole thing the parts can be retrofitted for those of use that still can reliably use the system. Well at least it worked at some point. I could deal with having to replace a part in a few years to have a functional system. -
Diesels seem to be a tough sell inthe US unless they are full size trucks.
-
I got a loaner Freestyle since our Edge is in for service. Not very inspiring vehicle to drive and I can't say I like the CVT at all. Just seems so strange to not shift, at first I thought something was wrong since it just held 3k rpm but then I realized I was accelerating. Was also surprised that the mpg was not vey good either...when they handed it over to me it was averaging 11.6, I reset it, drove like a grandma and only got 18. But I will say the multimedia interface is so much better than MFT. Sure it doesn't look as slick or have as nice graphics but it responds instantly to touch input, no need to push the screen and the nav never lost position. Just not sure how Ford could have gone from something that was very functional to the MFT and thought it was OK.

Hid light pattern
wlepse replied to maximus1's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
Do a search of the many HID threads here...since the bulbs are not 9012 the tabs are a little off and it allows for a few things to happen. Either one tab isn't in so the bulb is cocked or some have gotten them in but see the shadow of the return wire, so you have to keep rotating the orientation to get it right. Some have mentioned cutting tabs but others have not so I suspect either they got the wrong base or the didn't find that perfect orientation. -
Edge trailer hitches (with pictures)
wlepse replied to Gator's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
So after having the Valley installed for a few weeks we decided we couldn't live with the occasional clanking so we went out and bought a Curt 13067 since it was the only one at the time I could confirm with the manufacturer would fit. I would have rather gotten the Hidden or Draw Tite since the cross bar is behind the bumper but the manufacturers weren't aware of the exhaust change (at the time). So we ended up with the Curt. Initial impressions was not great. While it looked like it was packed well the flanges were bent a little and I had to man up and bend it back. Other than that the paint appears to be slightly better than the Valley but it could just be a glass vs flat issue. I don't care for the big bar being so visible but it works and is quiet so that is fine. It also sticks out a bit further than the Valley did. I find the reciever to be a little loose but I made my own anti-wiggle pins to take care of it. Hope the pics and info help some in their search. -
Edge trailer hitches (with pictures)
wlepse replied to Gator's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
Originally I purchased a Valley 82162 hitch because the plan was to follow another thread here and modify the reciever so that nothing was seen. The directions for the Valley hitch do say to drill but you don't have to...just follow the instructions from one of the other manufacturers and you are fine. The hitch was well made, clean welds good paint quality and fit to chassis was spot on. No need to cut the bumper and the only part you see is the actual reciever. It also stuck out less than the new one we have. The reason I have a new one is while this bolts up perfectly there is a slight interference with the newer exhaust set up on the Edge. Below are the pics.
