  1. While "Absolutely not necessary" who here wants to cut corners on their oil. Not me, full synthetic every 5000k Never heard of an early death of a motor due to too frequent oil changes or using too high of quality of oil. The main reason I use only full synthetic is that as it breaks down, it doesn't create the acids that organics or to a lesser degree blends do.
  2. I'm replacing all the stock speakers in my "new" 2013 Edge Limited, w/ Sony sound system. The center speaker in the dash and the two in the "D" pillars are all the same 3.5 inch speaker. However, you can only purchase them in pairs. This is where we might help each other out. I had to purchase two pair (4 total) of the Infinity Reference 3022cfx speakers and after installing the needed (3) I have (1) left. These are direct drop-ins of the factory and are quite the upgrade. It's still in its unopened baggie, in its original box, styrofoam packing, (x2) Infinity stickers, foam mounting tape, (1) filter cap although one is mounted already on the speaker from the Infinity. Install manual (yea, right I know right?) <50% cost of a pair plus actual shipping costs to you and it's yours. Solves the "odd number of speakers" issue that I wasn't able to get any retailer to do for me forcing me to purchase two pair. Google "Infinity Reference 3022cfx" and there are a number of webtailers that have them for ~$70.00/pair and you've got your (3) speakers!! I would have jumped at this as an option had someone offered. PM me for details or questions. mods, I apologize ahead of time if this is not the proper area but seemed so given its subject matter. Move if you need to. SOLD to one MR Chipster, thank you sir!
  3. Ray Heath Jr - you might be in luck, unless you've already solved your "odd speaker" purchase. I have one (from a set of four) that I'm posting tonight for sale. PM me if you're interested. my other thread
  4. No, just confirming what I have and what two Edge Limited with the 302A package had as factory. That being said, when I had to replace the window on the first one, I almost ended up with a non Soundscreen version of a "factory look a like" that was offered to me as a cost savings. Point being, you've purchased a used vehicle. Perhaps the window was replaced in the past with a non Soundscreen version. Since they're all relatively transparent I don't see (HA! see what I did there) that the minute attenuation of sound that the "Soundscreen " offers is not worth the fuss. Stop sweating the small stuff, not worth it.
  5. So long story short, I had to replace my windshield on my 2011 Edge Limited with 302A package. At time of replacement I inquired as to the brand of glass. It was Carlite but didn't have the Soundscreen on it. I requested that, they explained what it was, and that was what I got. Mainly because that was what I had and I wanted it to be STOCK. I now have a 2013 Edge Limited with the 302A package and it as well as the Carlite with the Soundscreen on it. Both cars had the rain sensors for the auto wiper function. Which btw, I never use as it comes one when I don't needs it and doesn't come on/stay on when I did need it.
  6. Seriously, its a "tool steel" deep well socket looking part with ribs on the inside surface. One or two good smacks with a BFH on any locking lug nut and an electric impact and your rims are mine. The time expended to slow me down is the time it took me to reach for the "different socket" and 1-2 good hits with my BFH. 20 seconds per tire. note: BFH is industry slang for BIg F'in Hammer
  7. UPDATE: well it's six weeks post accident and I've been back to work for two weeks now. I'm still sore, I feel like I was in a bar fight last Friday and I took several punches to the ribs, but its manageable. Funny to watch me get up outta a chair after having sat for an hour. I look like my dad for the first 10 feet. I think I'm going to seek out a chiropractor because I've still got some issues with my neck and back that aren't getting any better. Not looking forward to that. In the good news column, Before too many more medical bills hit me, I located and procured a replacement Edge (with a LOT of work). This time in the color I wanted in the first place. Same config as my departed 2011 but two years newer (2013) and 1/3 the milage. Now I begin the trek of getting my tweaks back in place so that it "feels right". I'm still in the "bonding phase".
  8. I can echo the 3rd party risk message. Ford Premium Care ESP is the only way to go. What happens often with the 3rd party carriers is that they state we "cover almost everything". "Almost" is their "out". Problem is they can't tell you what is NOT covered until you submit a part number. This means the service often has to make many calls to try to get you covered vs Ford Premium Care ESP, they input a number and know if its covered. 24x7 AFAIK. When "X" part is entered into their system you find its covered. But just 80% of it or possibly not at all. ("Almost") Diagnostics are not covered usually. Generally they're open M-F, 9am to 5PM. So you're on a trip and need service on a saturday. Unless you sign off on all repair costs, you're waiting till monday morning for them to open. (disclaimer - this is my "informed" opinion, this may not be reflective of all "3rd party carriers" these points may or may not all apply to any one single carrier)
  9. Thanks for the well wishes guys.
  10. Unfortunately no one wins. Fortunately no one permanently injured. While it can't be proved, texting was suspected. Really no other logical explanation why you have 550-600 feet of clear sight and choose to ram the side of another vehicle at ~50mph. The Edge took a direct hit to the drivers door and all its safety features did exactly what they were supposed to do. While trying to recover from getting the wind knocked out of me and assessing the damage, I hear MFT dialing my cell phone. LOL, I think, "great, nice time to have it call pizza hut!" Nope, it was MFT telling me I'd just been involved in a crash and it was calling 911 and relaying my position to them for me. Wow ... never thought I'd be hearing that message. I've just got to heal and move on. Not only do I no longer have my beloved Edge, but I've got a boat load of medical bills and have to figure out how to get another daily driver. The last one of the seat, that seat is now only 15" wide. I can assure you that at 6'5" and at the top end of 290lbs, my hips are NOT 15" wide! That center console left a black bruise from my right knee up to just above my belt line. Internal diagnostics revealed: two bruised hips (prevents me from walking due to the pain) bruised spleen (complete with fluid) Bruised ribs (door impact - makes breathing fun) 12 stitches on my forehead and fractured L2, L3. I'll heal but It'll take some time. Side impact curtains (and a praying mom) saved my life. With the force of impact I could have popped my noggin open or broken my pelvis. That would NOT have been good. I post this to say, be careful out there. You may be a very good driver but there are others that are set on ruining your day. p.s. if you feel so inclined, my son started a YouCaring on my behalf while I was in the hospital. Being alive as taken on a new meaning for me of late. Peace out
  11. I have the 2011 Limited with the silver and when it gets too worn I thinking I'm going to go with a 3M product called Di-noc carbon fiber wrap. http://www.metrorestyling.com/3M-DI-NOC-CARBON-FIBER-VINYL-CA-421-p/dinoc421.htm They have just about every color or surface look (even chrome, gold) and if by chance it gets damaged, you pull it off and recover it. They have wood grains, solid colors, everything. Check out youtube for people doing the entire outside of their vehicles, small dash parts, helmets, motorcycle parts. I saw where someone did their Edge grill in the carbon fiber. (and gloss black)

    I call BS

This doesn't surprise me at all. I looked into getting a damaged rim replaced until I saw that they wanted for the aluminum rims with plastic cemented t the face. I was lucky in that I found a forum member that was selling his two undamaged ones after he went aftermarket for the same reason. Next time I get to that point, I'm going aftermarket. I can get a set of four for the price of one!
  13. So I found my Edge's mileage digit segment test routine. Seems as if it only works at certain mileages.
  14. Appreciate the links ... I was asking for more of a "what do I need to replace to mimic a Ford tuneup?" I'm hearing plugs, PVC (since I'm in there), and clean TB plate. The "how the hell to get to the rear bank of plugs is going to come in handy" for sure. But even with all that, I'm still a lot lower than the $385.00 they quoted me. That is a bit steep for labor for something I can do myself.
  15. There were several oversights by Ford on the PTU like no proper drain plus unless you're tooling around in Dubai. Since you've read the thread on the zip tie trick you've also seen the thread on a retro install of a drain plug. So, the fact that we don't have an ability to check the level beyond a zip tie doesn't surprise me. IIRC, the Ford techs fill it by volume.
  16. "Whatever they feel like including." if factual, that seems like a pretty solid plan for supporting the Ford customers. Hmmm.
  17. Over the past few weeks when I'd accelerate hard, I'd drop a cylinder and the check engine light would flash accompanied with vibrations and a commensurate drop in ponies. ~30 seconds into this and the cylinder would come back and the flash engine light would extinguish. This would could happen at "just warm" temps or full engine operating temps. Accelerating from 10mph to ?? or from 50mph to 75+mph. Not to worried I know what this probably is (spark plug) but not which one and if there is actually a secondary issue causing it. Last weekend (two back) whilst passing a coma victim it happened again only this time after the cylinder rejoined the party, the check engine light did not extinguish. Good, this means a stuck code for the mech to read. Now, I've just crested my 85,000.0 miles so I realize that a tuneup is in order. When it was in for a warranty service the mechanic reported that the #6 coil had throw the code and he is going to replace it and its spark plug. And here is where I believe it got thick. (the snow that is) I was told that since the spark plugs have 85,000 on them, they have to work harder to make the spark and therefore this caused the coil pack to fail or at least attempt to fail and throw the code. Unless coil packs have somehow become very fragile or the gap was 2x's or there was no electrode left, I have to take this advice from the service writer with a grain of road salt. Now this is all for well and good since at 85,000.0 miles it is in fact time for a tuneup. Mr Educated Experienced service writer, how much to my bill would this tuneup cost should I opt to have your people do while its here. $385.00 !! My response, ah .. no thank you. Now, my question to the informed and educated and even possibly experienced forum community, what pray tell is included in the standard Ford Dealership tuneup of a 2011 Ford Edge Limited AWD 302A 3.5L SFI DOHC 6cyl?

    Leg Pain

I've got an 2011 limited. My pain came from the silver trim along the side of the center console that turns up and leads up to the dash. That hits me right on out outboard side of my upper leg. Just below my knee. That was sore for 2-3 months until I built up a resistance to it. Or my body reprogrammed my leg to not rest against it.
  19. Ford ESP yes .. 3CPO ?? no idea. 100k yes .. however, I do not think it was 7yrs. In my dusty memory banks .. I have 3 years after I owned it. Long story but basically I'm a 2nd owner via a dealership which was how I got the ESP plan. I've been told its up in March of 2016. Actually, I was able to check myself via the Owner site .. and I'm not sure how (besides the dusty memory banks) how I came to the conclusion of this March .. I'd just had FULLY covered service work done last year. (BAMB lubed, some other items as well) But the ford owners sites says. Terms: 3 years/36,000 (whichever comes first) Warranty Expires in*: Warranty has expired I'm forgetting something. I remember having an "extended warranty" of some sort and I don't think it shows up on the Ford Owner site.
  20. I have a 2011 Limited (2nd owner at 8000 miles) and I have the Premium 3 year, 100,000 mile warranty. I know there are several items that Ford has extended the warranty basically out to EOL. What I want to know is can I before its EOL, for lack of a better term, re-up for another 1-3 years ?
  21. I had posted a section in a thread about some oddities with Siri Eyes free over here. TL:DR You can text just fine, but as soon as you ask for Pandora or other 3rd party apps, you can no longer text via voice cmd. Siri gets all up in your face with "I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid you're driving" I have noticed tho that you can text again after trying a 3rd party within the same connection session. By that I mean that when you press and hold to access Siri, if you (normal) press again before the "Siri" indicator on the center screen goes away, that is the same session and you're able to text via voice. If the "Siri" goes away and you have to long press to get it back, that is a new session and for the 9.2, I was denied access to text by voice. and most other functions. (BTW, this was while parked in my driveway at home!)
  22. you realize that locking lugs are minor deterrent/delay and NOT a prevention, correct? In fact, this JUST happened to me. Had to get two new tires installed due to tread ware. Fast forward 3 months and I needed to do the rear breaks. I get all my parts and tool together and son-of-bi*ch. Everyone can make mistakes. If you do, it really becomes a mistake if someone else sees or gets its benefits. Seems as if the mechanic who'd replaced my tires neglected return the lug key. Now after several calls and some pushing they made it right and I drive 20 minutes to the nearest location. They hammered the "universal key" in place and removed the locks. The real "good thing" of this story is that it didn't happen at 8:30pm on the highway halfway into Chicago. That would be tow charges, missed dinner date, major aggravation. Just because one person made a easy screw up and I had custom locked lugs that slowed the mechanic down ... wait it didn't slow him down at all.
  23. I think that they're 35% to comply with various state laws. Also, when you go to get them tinted, when you tell them "make them match "X" windows, they'll use a light meter so they know. As soon as the communist state of Illinois passed front side windows getting tinted, I had a local shop match the rears. Looks so much better. I also had them install a "safety film" to another window. Its clear but, it blocks nearly 98% IR.UV light from outside hitting the dash. HUGE difference in heat levels. Much cooler now.
  24. OR .. you could get this for $149.00. It comes with lifetime map updates (up to four per year). Live traffic (vs monthly Sync services fees) AND it actually knows how to find addresses like rural fire addresses. Just saying.
  25. re: sync services and if so do you think it's still worth it? not in my opinion. two words - Smart Phone. I have the same 2011 Limited 302A +factory towing. Two upgrades I'd strongly recommend are; 1) change over the interior lights to LED. 2) change the door speakers to better units. Ex: this
