  1. jamesdeanblvd - I concur on CTFordfan's comments. It's not rocket science. And the mechanic that I'd had my conversation with owned his own business (franchise) called Tuffy Auto Services Center. They're all over the place.
  2. Trans fluid has a red (unless its really dead) tinge to it. New it looks like watery blood. But after its used for 10k or more, it goes more towards the brownish red. Also can stink pretty good as well. The transfer case (PTU) fluid starts life as brown "oil" color and semi translucent. If moisture gets to it, it'll go milky brown. and the amount can be explained because this is about how much is in the PTU which the axle shafts plug into. Letting the axle shafts hand might have opened the axle to seal seal and allowed the "gear" lube to exit. Just my hypotenuse.
  3. I concur what PerfA said. There used to be a lot of them but none have worked for the past year or so. While I was chewing the fat at my local dealership I asked if they could (they can) look up the window sticker and they did. I then handed them a flash drive and said "hey, can you save that to this?" They can and they did w/o any himmin or hawing. So I now have a full color PDF of my 2013's window sticker. (and that lil 2nd sticker as well)
  4. Alignment vs bushings .. might still be alignment and seized bushings are preventing them from adjusting. I've owned a 2011 and now a 2013, the 2013 was feeling very squirrely on me but just in the snow and heavy rain. Hard to describe but when the vehicle leaned (keyword there, think weight shift) into a turn, even a gentle turn at 50+ it felt like the rear end could very easily come around on me. I to suspected alignment and sure enough, front was out slightly, but the back was toe out 2` or more. The first thing the guy said was, "so before we get going, lets see if the bushing will even allow me to adjust them. The seize up often and if so, we're better off just replacing the control arms." So he'd run into this before. Also, if you run out of adjustment room, Ford has a replacement part that has to be installed to allow for more adjustment. Oh and the difference in handling was night and day. Zero feeling of the rear end wanting to come around on me in turns. p.s. another telltale sign that this is alignment is the inside shoulder of the tires where the sidewall meets the tread will be wore more than the outside edge. (for toe out)
  5. OMG .. finally someone has done it! This is exactly what I've been waiting/looking for. I've never liked the output matching DSPs. It always felt like a kludgy, "sort of", solution. AND, a separate subwoofer .. that was my real desire. The XR600-6DSP is just the icing on the cake.

    She’s dead :(

Wow ... bummer. Very glad to hear like others that no one was in or around it when it happened. Believe you me, it don't feel good! Lost my 2011 Limited to an accident, only I was in mine at the time. Also replaced mine with a 2013 Limited I found on car guru. And I went to my favorite Ford dealership [Fox Valley Ford in North Aurora, Il] and they hooked me up with the Ford ESP factory warranty out to 125K! BOOM SHACKA LOCKA! So that would be something I'd research if I were you. And if you get a no or don't like the terms from one dealership, try another.
  7. So I'm being forced to upgrade to the iFone 7 at work. ( I say forced as there was nothing wrong with my 6s, its just the end of our contract) When the 7 first came out there were reports of BT being very flaky and dropping every few minutes/seconds and other issues. Can any one report that this is or is NOT still the case?
  8. Thank you Perf .. very well. I've escaped with only a minor hitch in my step. I'm fine for about a block or two and then I get a muscle pack over my right butt cheek where I took out the center console starts to burn like a muther. I slow down and push thru it and keep going. The scar on my noggin from the 15 stitches is barely visible. Thank you very much for checking in.
  9. The kerosene flush is a very old trick. I learned this back on the farm with engines from the then "ole timers". If you do it while the engine is warm it works better as well. Amazing the life you can breath into old machinery by cleaning it up and applying some new/better lubricant.
  10. The screen has to be locked came from here -> Also, ensure that your iPhone screen is locked. Your iPhone will only notify SYNC of incoming text messages when the screen is locked. ...and also from the same page, MyFord Touch system on software version 3.5 or above ... iPhone is running a more recent version of iOS 6 (or above) so, if this doesn't work (as intended) who is culpable? Ford (cough, never, cough) or Apple? Ah, the great mysteries in life. Meanwhile the customer is told, yea, it doesn't work with whatever phone you have. (eventho it did)
  11. akirby, yes I did while my iphone was still at 10.2.1 and did it again while at work on 10.3 (i just updated to it), so I need to test that again. Also something that I wasn't aware of, SYNC won't do read text messages if the phone is not locked. So I'll make sure that it also the case.
  12. BTW-Here is the Ford specs sheet on SYNC2 v3.10 EA5T-14D544-BAABOUT THE LATEST UPDATE The new software update for SYNC® with MyFord Touch® systems includes all the improvements from previous updates, plus additional changes to accommodate new and updated customer devices, such as: Hazard switch illuminates on Focus / Escape with ignition off and park lamps on Next Track / Previous Track controls from SYNC touchscreen SYNC Maintaining Repeat / Shuffle settings that were set on the device side Compatibility updates for the latest phone and media devices The installation of this update will take up to 30 minutes to complete. Be sure to keep your engine running (not in accessory mode) throughout the entire installation process. Turning off your vehicle during the update installation will disrupt the process. Although your vehicle must be in park when you begin the installation process, you may drive your vehicle while the update is downloading to your SYNC® system. If your vehicle is equipped with the Intelligent Access with Push Button Start feature, you will need to temporarily disable the Automatic Engine Idle Shutdown (AEIS) component before beginning the installation in order to prevent your vehicle from timing out and shutting off the engine before the software update is complete. To disable this feature, use your steering wheel controls to navigate to the Settings menu on your left-hand Instrument Cluster LCD display. From there, select Vehicle >Auto Engine Off >Off. (If you do not see this setting, there is no need to make any changes before starting the update.) Alternatively, after initiating the installation, you may drive the vehicle during the update process to avoid shutting off the engine. The next time you start your vehicle, the AEIS will automatically reset to "On." Please note: During the update installation, SYNC® will temporarily appear to not recognize your mobile phone or media device. This is normal. Once your system has been successfully updated, SYNC® will display a notification stating "Installation complete."
  13. I recently had to replace my 2011 Edge Limited due to an unscheduled rapid disassembly incident. The replacement is a 2013 Edge Limited basically outfitted with the same options. My 2011 had the last known snyc2 update of v3.8. This version gave us the Siri Eyes function which was great. We could have MFT read the inbound texts to us over the sound system and send any text outbound via Siri. Very cool When I got my 2013 and started checking out all its bits, I noted that the sync2 version was at v3.6. No, no no, we just can't have that. Besides which there was no Siri Eyes with v3.6, but there is with v3.8. I checked around and also searched around here to see if there had been an updates that I was not aware of since 3.8 back in late 2015. There didn't appear to be. I made an appointment to get the 2013 updated to v3.8 (current). At this point, v3.6 still had the little envelope icon at the far left of the row of icons, followed by the 911 service, battery & signal strength. When an inbound text would arrive, MFT would "alert" me via a tone over the sound system and I had the choice to "listen" or ignore. Listen would cause MFT to read me the texts. However, a few days after the update to SYNC, presumably to v3.8, I noticed I was no longer getting Alerted nor did I get the "listen or ignore" prompt on the right hand small dash screen. When I had my APIM replaced on the 2011, the dealership neglected to active or install the 911 feature to which they happily corrected by "activating" that module or installing some additional software. I figured this would just be the same easy fix. So I picked up my Edge tonight only to be told that this version of sync no longer supports the reading of text to me! ???? Wait, on my 2011 with v3.8 and this iphone6 right here it did. On this 2013 Edge with v3.6 and this here iphone it did. How is a 2013 on v3.8 (or so I thought) not going to work on my iphone?? Answer, because its v3.10! When I checked my records on the 2011 for its sync update history and see Apr 19, 2011 v3.5, Oct 9, 2014, & Dec 11, 2015 for v3.8.When I checked the health report that I ran on the way home for the 2013, I see Oct 8, 2013 v3.6 and ... wait .. what?? March 1 (when I had it updated) SYNC2 - v3.10 Did anyone else know about v3.10? Can anyone with an iphone on iOS 10.2.1 or the recently released iOS 10.3 paired to the Edge Sync2 running v3.10 or v3.8 A ) does it have the Envelope icon above the Phone Connected and B ) does it read inbound texts to you over the sound system? I've hard rebooted the iphone, deleted the pairing on both the iPhone and my Edge. Even updated the iOS and checked any Siri or messaging settings. Nothing, still no go. This is frustrating - an update that removes or breaks a good function.
  14. I can tell you for certain (and first hand experience) that no Ford dealer will do this. I tried several different ways and what you're asking them to do is to deviate from Ford's "as built" configuration of your vehicle and since this is a so called "safety feature", there is no way in hell they'll do it. In an adjacent "new" thread the code info you seek was there. BdyCM 726-16-01 0111 56 (Double Honk Enabled, Default) BdyCM 726-16-01 0101 46 (Double Honk Disabled) # 3rd digit number is 1: double honk enabled # 3rd digit number is 0: double honk disabled My dealership's mechanic whom I asked (strongly requested, attempted to bribe, coerce, side job, theoretically - "I have no idea how that happened") to disable this, he said that he'd found these exact settings in the BCM (body control module) but changing them would deviate from the "Ford as built configuration" and that he asked up the food chain and got "ABSOLUTELY NOT" from everyone.
  15. So .. took my edge in to get serviced today (lub the bamr track, update sync 2.0 to current build) and get this darn'd double honk disabled. Well ... I got honked off alright. Everything was else got done. But the mechanic when he got to the disable, saw my included info (where and how to disable) he sees it, from my notes sees that wow, he can disable that. But then says ... hmmm that would be changing the "as built config" that comes from Ford in my 2013 Edge Limited and THAT is a big NO NO I was told. No can do says the service manager. AND he tells me that if I do it, anytime I bring it in to get serviced and they have to reflash that module or the entire system my settings go bye bye and I have to do it again. Can someone 100% confirm that this is a user option that can be disable via the dash or center console controls in later years and models (Fusion)? So unless one of the Ford reps here can give me a point of contact to get an override on this, it looks like it's up to me. It peeves me off enough that I'm actually considering do it myself.
  16. I've seen the 2016 Edge and has pockets molded right into those side panels. A shame that Ford didn't just cookie cutter those side panels. I think that there would probably be more afterthought takers if it was that easy. chefduane, When you place the backing plate, might I suggest that you use my new favorite adhesive. Black silicone trim adhesive. Once dry you'll never have to fumble with the assembly steps. Tip: I used black silicone trim adhesive to attach my detector to the windshield vs suction cups. There is a process, so ask if you're interested.
  17. Fact or fiction - you decide. Linkage
  18. I solved my hitting the panic button in my pocket. O_o (okay that didn't sound like that in my head) Anyways, the fob open up revealing the circuit board. I took a small piece of "scotch tape" and covered the back sides of the buttons I didn't want activated. The downside is that you won't be able to activate them at all without removing the tape. Which for me the panic button was nothing. The left gate, meh. that I couldn't live with. But I did notice that I stopped triggering it as soon as I taped off the panic button.
  19. I've looked at these as well and questioned the screw in clip's reliability. (I haven't ordered one) But if the clip's structural integrity is not in question but its reliable connection to the side panel IS, You could use a 4"x4" plate like a square electrical box cover (metal or plastic) and use a thru bolt to this backing. That should provide plenty of structural integrity for the mount. Stainless steel, counter sunk bolt with a nylock nut for the back side.
  20. Hey candurin. (There is a parallel thread on this as well.) Question I have and that was commented in the other thread, can that cellular device be leverage to provide WiFi hotspot in the vehicle or is it locked to the functionality of the remote start & etc system?
  21. Ninja'd by Shaay. The ability to remote from your phone requires a cellular modem in the vehicle. There are aftermarkets systems that do just that, add a modem and patch into the vehicle. Not sure about our Fords tho. I looked into engineering one myself. It'd be a simple remote start from long distances, but decided the benefits wasn't worth the retro engineering that I'd have to do. This Sync3 Connect feature (if it works reliably and is intuitive) sounds like a nice addition. Other manufactures have had this function for years.
  22. once a year .... same here. I normally do ~30k per year and live in the Chicagoland area. When the first snow falls I usually start looking for deals. I like to be able to steer my car and actually have it change directions when in the snow or slush. I switched to the Pirelli Scorpion Verde, which are Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season in the 245/50R20 size. They're also "V" rated vs the "H" rated OEMs. Better reviews and I could probably stretch them out to two years in a warmer climate (no snow).
  23. I concur with what macbwt has indicated also for the reasons. Turbos are great as they make the engine produce moar power, but this comes at the expense of moar fuel and air consumed. Air is free, fuel is not. Sry, no towing data here. Still have yet to build my teardrop. Working out the frame and silhouette details
  24. yea - I like the "idea" of being able to monitor the trailer hitch while on the road. Not enough to start tearing into the system to see how I can "trick" it. I'd suspect that it might be fairly simple and could selectively be triggered by a push button or microswitch on the front center console ... and, not enough to screw with it (yet)
