  1. Thinking about the folks who aren't active much on the forum anymore, shoutout to Dingo, wannabang, thirdgenlxi, Cellbine, and many more. Hope all of you are doing well, and checking in from time to time. Do take the time to post and let us know how you are and what you are up to
  2. Welcome, greatdane68, nice ride! The ball is already rolling on maintenance & upgrades Here's to miles of smiles!
  3. Have the same problem on mine. Stumped dealership and my fav service shop. They both say the batteries are fine, they relearned them with no problems etc etc etc. I keep thinking the spare tire could be an issue, but haven't tested that theory yet. Unless the TPMS module itself is to blame, maybe?
  4. If the left LCA is not far behind, aim for both. Things that work in pairs are ideally replaced in pairs. But if the condition is "miles apart", then it will be up to your powers of persuasion to make it happen
  5. Try running some fuel injector cleaner through the tank (Techron or BG 44K my favs), see if that helps. Keep an eye on the engine oil before & after (500-1000 miles). If the oil looks dirtier, I'd change it out (ignore change intervals).
  6. Painter's tape or frog tape works well for covering exposed parts. Hopefully you can get a used dipstick locally or on EBay ... Don't know if MY is significant for this part.
  7. On the back valve cover (next to firewall), same for all the 3.5 V6s, regardless of MY. Check out the spark plug replacement thread also if you would like to get a feel for location. mac has a video to show where it is, IIRC.
  8. Welcome to the community, Ross, congrats on the '10. I hear CVTs are getting better as the years go by, but definitely not equal to the 6/10 speeds. Pics of your rides, past/present?
  9. Not necessarily a blown turbo, can also be hoses (particularly in and around the MAP sensor) coming loose causing false readings. You could have them check thoroughly, make sure if they are loose, that they get clamped, otherwise they will come loose again. In any case, I hope this is not OOP for you ...
  10. Only one port to read/access data from on these OBDII systems, if that's what you are asking. You can "interrogate" components separately of course, with the right hardware/software, I am sure.
  11. mac lets secrets regarding his origin slip from time to time, best to ignore that stuff ... never happened ... LOL

    Ford Edge 2012

Yes, Mercon LV is what the owner's manual calls for, so should work fine. Don't fall for the 150K/lifetime spiel, do the regular changes/flushes, and you won't regret it.
  13. His fingers? Nick is probably an expert at holding the key in one hand while still having both hands full of equipment/grocery/whatever Secret military training ...
  14. Thick black fluid is usually pure PTU fluid, so probably not a seal leak. I would R&R the fluid or have a BG flush done first. My preference is BG flush simply because it will get the PTU as clean internally as reasonably possible without opening it up, and will protect the PTU further down the road. Can even take a sample to confirm that fluid looks ok (no metal shavings, a few flakes here/there are normal). http://bgfindashop.com Look for the "gear" symbol, which means the shop performs driveline services.
  15. If you are in it for the longterm, I'd go with the Scantool.net OBDLink MX Bluetooth adapter. 3 year warranty, best price is usually on their website, unless you can find someone selling theirs.
  16. Welcome, JP, glad to have you and your '14 join us 3.5L or Ecoboost engine? Pics?

    Ford Edge 2012

Fuel filter is built into the fuel pump nowadays, it's a screen also, just like the trans "filter". So when you change the fuel pump, the filter will be changed also. 3.5L engines use 5W20, Ecoboost engines use 5W30. Make sure to use the correct weight oil, it is critical over time.
  18. Welcome to the community, emrge81, congrats on the new ride! FWD or AWD? First Ford, or ...? Please do post some of the new !
  19. Worth checking the spare tire well? Might be something loose in there? I have not made any changes in there on my Edge since I bought it, but I am sure there are people out there who actually use the builtin organizer
  20. Welcome, Tevesh, congrats on the new ride! As long as the fronts are worn evenly and the rears are worn evenly, you should be fine. Sounds like the prev owner did not believe in tire rotations. Please do post pics of the Edge
  21. 3/8" square drive for the fill plug. FSM may mention installing a new plug each time, not sure if people do that tho. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/10914-ptu-leak-failures/?do=findComment&comment=89533 Something like this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000CMDPBM/ or this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00265M9SS/ or this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000GU0MMU/ should work. you can also rig your own to a small size shopvac with a reservoir in between if you want to automate.
  22. If you are up to it, you can repeat the drain & fill a few times with enough driving in between to warm & mix the old & new fluids. 3 or 4 times should get you pretty close to ultimately having new fluid in the PTU. The fill line is about 1 inch or so below where the fluid starts coming out of the fill plug hole. Initially it can be a very slow, time-consuming, patience-testing, and olfactory-murdering process. The other option is to find a BG shop that will do it for you in 1 go. Not many have tapped a drain hole into the PTU, probably for fear of completely ruining it with metal shavings from the drilling. This would be a great way to allow periodic maintenance though.
