Did turning the Edge off, then restarting it make any difference after you experienced this problem? Was it a one-time thing or is it repeatable? First thing I'd do is pull codes to see what the PCM sees. Check trans fluid level also to see if it's low/burnt/dirty, and check for external leaks, especially around the PTU if yours is AWD. Lights or no lights, the next most likely possibilities are: Transmission Range Sensor Broken Orifice Cup Valve Body TSS/OSS sensors (may or may not set a code)

Either folks don't have access to or experience with jacks/lifts, or there are too many steps to getting the LCA taken care of compared to the light bulb change. I think the Edge/MKX is reaching that 10 year point where you will see more owner-mechanic-DIY types.

Sounds like it went into LIMP HOME mode? Could definitely be the TSS/OSS sensors. Did any lights come on? Hoepfully DTCs have been set and can help resolve this issue once and for all.

At least you have the complaint on record? If you have it in writing/dealership letterhead, that's major ammo should this problem return. If you have another dealership nearby, you could try them, though a diagnostic fee might be charged.

I haven't looked for the one on mine, but try the fuse box panel under the dash. Probably a five number combo that should be the code. If it has been changed from factory, you will have to take the Edge to a dealer to get it reset. You need the keyless code to set a personal code.

Was the old timing chain put back on? It is possible the chain or the tensioner failed. This could have caused bent rods/valves, which would lead to finding metal in the oil. Either way, it does look like at least a short block will be required.
