  1. Attached as PDF... 13N02 - Brake Booster Warranty Extension - 2010 thru 2013 Edge and MKX.pdf
  2. The distance between the forward & aft jacking points, as indicated near the wheelwells on our 2012 MKX by arrows molded into the rocker covers, is 64 inches.
  3. Brake booster finally failed at 89,800 miles on our 2012 MKX with qualifying 9/8/2011 build date. Brake pedal became progressively spongy over a couple of weeks, then vacuum boost effect was lost and hissing noise was evident through firewall when brake pedal fully to floor and very high-effort brake operation. Dealer replaced brake booster under the 13N02 extended warranty coverage at no cost to us.
  4. Spilled gas on upward facing fabric of folded-down second row seat. Tried repeatedly covering spill area with baking soda and left it in place for a week each time, followed by vacuuming, which diminished gasoline odor, but didn't remove it. Read online about coffee grounds. Substituted ground coffee for baking soda, allowing successive applications to sit for a week before vacuuming. Totally removed gasoline odor! Definitely worth the cost of the 12-oz. bag of coffee and the vehicle's robust coffee aroma while it's working over a couple of weeks.
  5. Recently, at 86k miles, replaced 2013 MKX's OE Michelins with Goodyear Assurance WeatherReadys, which improved steering & stability with a touch firmer ride and a touch more tread noise. Best price for me was at Sam's Club, for which there are cost-offsetting Membership deals, $15 per tire installation, and $176 per tire cost before an $80-off-four-tires promotional discount available through the end of 2019. The 18-inch WeatherReadys must be special ordered in, but arrived quickly, installation was prompt, personnel were efficient & knowledgeable.
  6. Wiz: I did not say all that, though you described our rotated head restraint as "eliminating" its effectiveness, or as "essentially removing the function entirely". Regardless, best wishes to Quincy toward his enjoying comfort & safety with his Edge's driver head restraint. Good luck!
  7. Wiz: After your recommendation to modify a safety device by deforming its structural supports in a bench vise, your lecture on ascetic motivation and design ignorance is especially enjoyable. Good luck!
  8. Rotating our 2012 MKX's non-adjustable headrest 180-degrees causes the original forward-raked surface of headrest to face rearward, and provides a laid-back face that is more comfortable... Good luck!

  10. I'll answer the converse of this question. I selected my 2012 MKX because factory trailer tow was offered with its standard 3.7 powertrain, whereas factory trailer tow was not available on the Edge Sport, the only Edge model offering the 3.7 powertrain. Good luck!
  11. My 2012 MKX has a build date of 8/9/2011 and dealer-activated DRLs. With the engine running, the front turn signal bulb filaments light up when the transmission is in any position other than Park, and the fog light indicator on Instrument panel does not light up. DRLs remain on when Headlight Switch is in parking light position. Without headlights turned on, turn signal operates with front turn signal bulb filament blinking off-on-off-on. With headlights turned on, parking light filament lights up and turn signal operates with front turn signal filament blinking on-off-on-off. Keep spare front turn signal bulbs on hand because the mostly always-on turn signal filament fails more often than in non-DRL usage. A failed front filament induces a quick-flash turn signal cadence on the rear & side view mirror turn signals when driving. Fortunately, my having long arms helps when making the blind reach into the peeled-back wheel well splash shield to replace a failed bulb. I verified this after one dealer told me they'd have to remove the fender to replace the bulb. Apparently, all their technicians' arms were too short to remove & replace the bulb socket through the wheel well, so I went home and replaced the bulb myself. Good luck!

    Issues

Like you, I had the turn signal filament DRLs activated on my 2012 MKX. With the plethora of white DRLs on the road, I've always hoped the amber color might be more noticeable. You may want to keep spare bulbs on hand, since the bulbs will burn out more quickly, due to their full time DRL duty. If you choose, you can become proficient at the blind, one-handed, in-up-to-your-elbow, through the loosened inner fender liner, socket removal & bulb replacement procedure. You may notice the socket body becoming scorched by the ongoing use of the turn signal filament, but I've had no melting occur that affected the socket itself. You may also notice that your DRLs remain functional when your parking lights are activated, but the bulbs return to standard operation when your HID headlights are turned on. Good luck!

You may want to determine if the below-attached Technical Service Bulletin was considered by the dealer when the initial liftgate repair was attempted. TSB 12-03-09 - Automatic Liftgate Bounce Back When Closing - For Certain 2012 Edge-MKX.pdf Shortly after I purchased my new 2012 MKX, it exhibited the same liftgate behavior shown in your YouTube video. My local dealer performed the reprogramming procedure on the Liftgate Module, and it permanently corrected the liftgate re-opening problem. Past panoramic roof rack discussions can be found here, here, here, and here. Good luck!
  16. An illustration and info on the tool bag that contains the jack & jack handle can be viewed here. Good luck!
  17. I've had all the complimentary oil changes & tire rotations on my 2012 MKX performed through Quick Lane operations at Ford dealerships, based on reminders from the vehicle's Oil-Life Monitor. Make sure you remind the Ford Quick Lane attendant about your MKX's complimentary maintenance entitlement. Your MKX's VIN will be entered into Ford's OASIS information system to verify its complimentary maintenance eligibility. Your 2013 MKX should be entitled to eight complimentary maintenance visits over four-years/50,000 miles, which are broadly described in the attached Lincoln document and here. Lincoln complimentary maintenance is also mentioned in the attached 2013 MKX brochure on the right side of Page 3. Good luck! 2013 Lincoln Complimentary Maintenance Plan.pdf 2013 MKX Brochure.pdf
  18. Attached are photos of cooling fan components on my Trailer Tow equipped 2012 MKX. The cooling fan control module is marked with part number "7T43-8C609-BA". Good luck!
  19. Waldo: I've always enjoyed your technical contributions and I appreciate your comments on my use of max tire pressure, which I've seen advised in posts on several boat-related forums. Based on your comment, I searched online and found the single-axle calculation method in the attached worksheet, which I'll use to ensure my tire pressures are matched to the load of towing my boat, as you advise. Thanks! Calculating Proper Towing Tire Pressures.pdf
  20. My 2012 MKX is equipped with the factory tow package. It easily pulls my 18-foot center console boat on a single axle aluminum trailer that's equipped with surge brakes and weighs in at just over 3,900 lbs when the boat's 50-gallon fuel tank is full. The rear end of my MKX does sag a bit once the trailer is fully sitting on the hitch ball, but it's not excessive and I haven't noticed any significant handling effects beyond normal towing forces. I cannot say what the tongue weight of my boat trailer is, but the boat was delivered on the trailer directly from the boat manufacturer, so their positioning of the boat relative to the trailer's single axle should put the tongue weight within the 7% to 10% industry guideline. The next time I'm around a CAT Scale I'll have to verify that. Consistent with Waldo's advice, I do keep my tire pressures on the MKX and the boat trailer aired up to the maximum psi that's shown on the tires' sidewall. I normally launch the boat close to home, but I've towed the boat on trips of several hundred miles at posted highway speeds of 65-to-70 mph with no problems at all. The MKX & boat/trailer combo accelerates very well and stops safely, without exhibiting any sway effect. I was honestly surprised how well the single-axle trailer tracked on straightaways and through sweeping turns, though fuel economy does drop to 8-to-10 mpg, depending on the terrain. By driving defensively and keeping plenty of stopping distance away from traffic in front of me, I look forward to safely towing for many years beyond the two years I've already enjoyed. Good luck!
  21. As long as my FWD doesn't magically turn into an AWD, I'm okay. Good luck!
  22. So far, no recall status has been posted to my VIN-based profile on the official Ford Owner / Lincoln Owner websites. Good luck!
  23. The next-gen MKX will probably have a horizontal 5-bar split wing grille and an illuminated crossbar between the tailights, comparable to the 2015 MKC and 2015 Navigator. Good luck!
