Snow tires, Snow tires, Snow tires. Nothing is better in the snow than snow tires. Those big low profiles look nice as I pass you with my snow tires.

MFT report your successful installations or problems

The 2011 is now with the dealership. What started out as a 1hr deal grew into "how about a ride home and we will call you" Home two hours later and now waiting. Something about the update not going well and would be two to three hours. APIM? time will tell as if the APIM was good the update should only take about 30-40 minutes. -
Need to get it hooked up to the computer to make sure they aligned the timing chain correctly.

Painted, doors finished. Waiting for the bumper cover to be installed. Was called and informed late afternoon tomorrow. Taking the goofy acting 2011 in for reviews. Listening to my wife it sound like the 2011 is ready to explode. I guess I will drive it in the morning and see what all the huffing and puffing is about. I can only laugh at this point.

Re: tires - how old is too old? (plus needed tire advice)
macbwt replied to liarsdice's topic in Wheels & Tires
I am going to state the obvious. Since you are asking and thinking about tires. You are obviously concerned as you have a family you wish to be safe while driving the vehicle. In my observation I believe you know it is time to replace the tires so the real question is what brand/price is best for your driving habits. I choose hancook because they are a good relieable company and you do not seem to be the race car driving type of person. The expensive one will rot at the same rate as the less expensive tires. -
Great comparison of the GLA with the same class of vehicles, Honda CRV, Ford Escape, subaru forrester. Guess it is a compact suv. http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/video-hub/cars/suvs/5-top-small-suvs-of-2014/14684583001/2396840320001/

Why the extra wear on the rears? I am guessing it is how you drive and the driving patterns. Tons of city driving may cause the rears to wear more and light driving with lower traction could cause the rears to employ more often causing the extra wear. For me I am all highway so I guess I tend to wear the brakes less but use more front brake due to the higher speed and sometimes hard/shorter stopping distances comparitively. Best answer I could come up with based on some short research. Electronic Brake Force Distribution Newer cars use the antilock brake hardware and the onboard computer to replace these proportioning valve systems with a system called Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) in order to distribute the exact amount of pressure at each wheel to insure a balanced brake system.

It restarted this morning after she left it all night. Now she can not get the heat to turn down. I am sure there are other issues but she is just learning how to use the system and this failure did not help especially since English is not her first langauge. -
I would assume that all the brakes are applied not just one set front or rear with the feature you are describing. My 2011 has the same feature, but I am unsure if it would just be the rear brakes. Seems like it would be all the brakes. Interesting but I do not have an answer for you, but will watch to see if anyone else does.

Not sure but I am hoping. I do have the rental until the 08 is ready so not a real big issue just yet. -
I had to have an oil tap insert placed into my oil pan. Wonder why? LOL

Meagan Mileage is now 89k miles. The dash has restarted but now the wife says she can not control the heat and it is full on. Driving through iowa winter with the windows down. Funny. The dealer says they will run tests then contact Ford for approval to replace the APIM -

I will have to do this when I return home. I guess she will have to deal with it until then. We do have an appointment to have it check on Friday. This is not really a DIY as apparently all kinds of special things are needed. -

My wife 2011 just had the entire system shut down with a dead screen. Any direction on this would be helpful. The dealer said that the warranty on the 2011 apim or something like that was extended. Anyone have advice or been through this? -
You need a good mech to test it and drill down to find the problem.

Door off and getting painted plus not entirely sure why they are painting the rear door now? Makes ya wonder what is doing on as they keep painting more and more of the car. Maybe they will just give up and paint the whole thing!!!
