  1. I remember my first car I ever bought. 1973 chevy vega. 70 series wheels on the front with 50 series on the rear. That engine was so bad that I actually found other working engines and trannys kept two of each on hand so I could change out the engine or tranny when they blew. I must of went through a dozen engine and at least two trannys in that car. I kept used oil in milk jugs in the back just to keep her topped off and running. I also got so good at engine changes that I could come home friday after school and change the engine out in time for my date that night. That being said I have never had a vehicle like my orange crush ford edge that I have been able to put so many miles on. The work the manufacturers have done with engines today is hands down a display of engineering and fabrication process improvement examples that can not compare to the old days as they say. The manufacturers have learned a lot about aluminum and steel combinations that have opened up many doors. Imagine having a Ford edge sport with the 2.7 back in 1973?! Nothing would beat it and people would be in awe.
  2. If the previous suggestion is not it then take the weight off and test the wheel for movement. If it moves and the tie rods are not loose then you may have a ball joint going. My FWD edge made a knocking sound also down lower.Try to move the wheel by pushing on the front of the tire if you have movement then the ball joint is your most likely culprit. The strut can also make a knocking noise light at first then progressively louder but this noise is up higher. You can usually tell the difference of the sound if it is higher or lower. The strut bearing mount is hard to tell if it is bad just due to position and with or without weight it may still seem stable. You could jack it up then put another jack under the LCA and bring it up and see if there is any movement where the ball joint is connected to the LCA. If so that may be it. I originally thought my bumping was another strut until I tested the ball joint. Changing the struts can be done in the garage or driveway just need the tools. I will say nothing makes the job go faster than a good impact wrench. Torque wrench and sockets. I do recommend removing the cowling above the struts to give yourself more room or have the hands of a five year old with the strength of an adult. I have changed mine, but was not making videos at the time. I am sure I will in the future. Check out my video on the LCA removal and it might help you decide what to do.
  3. My fans don't run, matter of fact I hardly ever hear them running. Should I be worried?
  4. I will go with them not resetting the system. The other answer maybe taxi or they drove it like they stole it. Neither one of those seems like a good scenario.
  5. Thanks for the support and Mercy Girl (spring break) was with me and your note just bought me another acceptance to making another video with dad repairing the 2008 Ford Edge. Got to get parts etc. lined up then another one will be coming.
  6. I checked the Oil life monitor on the 2011 and it reads 35 percent. Too lazy to read the book but does this count down? or up? I am assuming down from 100percent. Another strange thing is the miles since last oil change on the tag reads about 1200 miles yet the Oil monitor states 35 percent. The oil was last changed in Sept 2014. I am changing no matter what as I do not fully trust a used car dealer on things and will also change the tranny fluid if the guys say it needs to be changed.
  7. 300 mile drive today and handled great. The repairs are good. Now to attack the rear shock problem first. Seems my rear left KYB shock has sprung a leak and is bad causing tire wear. Time to go back to the monroes as I though KYB was supposed to be good, but apparently they leak. Estimate miles on it is about 80k miles maybe a 100k I forget. Time to change them anyway.
  8. I think all of use have earned that badge once or twice in our lifetimes. Sometimes you just need to laugh at yourself. It seems with these light sockets you have two choices 1) live with it until it completely stops working 2) replace it. I am choosing the first choice as they still work and all that will happen is the new ones will get burned up too. At least I know these old ones are burned up so the condition is not a question just a status.
  9. I forgot to mention the signs and symptoms this 2008 Ford edge was showing. 1) Clunking sound when hitting bumps 2) When making left turns (at speed 40mph or higher) the Edge would make a noticeable change further left causing me to re-correct the path 3) Raised up off the ground no weight the tire would move inward or outward when I pushed on the front of the tire or the back of the tire 4) no noticeable movement when pushing on top or bottom of tire.
  10. No comment. Don't want to change the topic.
  11. This is a step by step video on how to remove and replace a lower control arm on the right (passenger side) of a 2008 Ford Edge with 273,000 miles (third LCA on this side for this Edge). This video will depict a worse case scenario on how to remove the LCA when the bolts break. This can be a DIY as long as you have the tools available. Hope this video helps you learn from my experience. Depending on your shop you would use this job can be between 700 to 1100 dollars. I did it for $130.00 dollars.
  12. Here is the video and what was discovered during the removal and replacement of the light bulbs in my 2008 Ford Edge. Is it normal for the sockets to be this burnt?
  13. I will be posting a video of my change out of the rear brake/turn signal lights. The sockets in this video (once you see it) tell a story. This video will make you want to run out and check your tail lights. Stand by for the video.
  14. Not a fan of ethanol. Something about using our food to make fuel. IMO.
  15. That 3.5 in the intro sounds good yet huh. Might not be as quiet as some but she still runs good after all those miles.
  16. The weird thing is I get no vacum hiss or pressure hiss when I remove the gas cap. This definitely indicates a leak as there is no pressure nor is there vacuum. This is a good thing as the tank will not expand nor will it collapse from vacuum issues. At this point all that leaves me with is the EPA issue for reclaimed fuel unless I am missing something it does not affect engine or fuel performance. Just a bothersome light that I need to cover with a piece of black tape. LOL
  17. Here it is folks.31 minutes or so of video. Keep in mind the length is due to the very difficult removal of the lower control arm that required inventive and forceful removal. The MOOG LCA I installed on the right side was the third LCA for this side. I guess I am averaging 90k per LCA before replacement. Most DIY'ers in their driveway would not have the tools/equipment to perform this should this happen to them as you would need a lift to access and correct the issue I encountered. Be prepared and hopefully everyone learns from my experience. Again a special thanks to Mercygirl the best 12 year old camera girl around.
  18. I would assume most likely since Ford as I have heard has parted ways with MS.
  19. Soon to be finished the 2008 Ford Edge Right side Lower Control Arm removal and replacement video. Over 6 hours just to edit this video and then render it to a finished format. If you plan on replacing your LCA yourself this video is for you as it will show you what to prepare for and parts needed. This video is a worse case repair example as major problems were encountered. I will upload and place in online yet tonight after the rendering is finish and the upload to youtube is completed. Please give Mercy Girl special thanks for all the camera work.
  20. Preview of the LCA on the right side. Quote: Mercy; "Daddy you are saying a lot of bad words" Yep this job I thought would be two hours turned into almost six hours. Nothing is as it appears. Video to come but be sure it contains violence, destruction and many beatings with lots of force until something gives.
