  1. Next video will be lift gate replacement and install of new monroe supports on the old edge. Just got them in from Rock auto, but I have to proceed up north for a few days so will not be able to change them out. Too cold and dark out now.
  2. After all brown is a tint of orange...kinda sorta got my way. She wanted White.
  3. Setting my target on a 2011 Ford Edge Limited 88k Kodiak Brown with black leather. Wife gave me OK to proceed so maybe if all works out by Saturday I will be a two Ford Edge family.
  4. I agree on replacing the thermosate first, but you can also remove the thermostat (cold engine) then open the radiator cap. You will need to have a flashlight and then start the engine. You need to look for fluid movement (flow) if you can not detect flow then you have a water pump that has failed. I had a water pump fail on a 2002 susuki GV after only 4 years. That pump is also internal on their V6. The mechanic replaced the water pump then after 500 miles the temp gauge pegged and I lost heat (just like you) The what happend part is the impeller had seperated and then spun off the shaft enough to stop it from pumping the coolant. This ment they had to tear it down again and replace the pump. I would put money on the impeller problem. No noise and no pumping indicates the shaft and impeller are no longer working together.
  5. Wow you could play king of the hill on top of that edge.
  6. All approved I should have the wife a 2010 or so Ford Edge. I do not buy new vehicles. It will be interesting to see what she and I decide on (color) will be the compromise and most likely me doing the compromising. Happy wife is always good.
  7. Sigh.....I am giving up on the wife's Trailblazer (too many issues) multiple missfires etc. not to mention other problems. Time to start looking for another Ford Edge for her to drive, which means I will be looking for a future work vehicle for me as her Edge will become my work vehicle should or when my Edge ever have a fatal failure. Got to give the wife the newer car so that she does not have problems like her truck is giving her now.
  8. 2004 EXT LT black 4.6l 4x4, 110,000 miles. Funny thing is the new coil is white and all the old ones are black. This will make it easier to remmeber which one I replaced. LOL
  9. SIde note: I had to work on my wifes Chevy Trailblazer and replace the #4 coil. Once i got the air box off and what did I see but a mouse nest complete with acorns built up between the #2 and #3 coils on top of the engine. Mouse evicted and coil replaced.
  10. Not to shock you but you read my mileage correctly I am now at 270,000 miles. Look at my profile pic that was taken about a week or so ago. You can also follow my trials and tribulations on the pinned topic "what to expect at 200,000 plus miles" I think that will have to be changed in October to "what to expect at 300,000 plus miles"
  11. And to both of ya. 270,000 miles on a K&N air filter (original MAF/MAP sensor). Average fuel mileage is 20mpg and on Blizzak snow tires with winter fuel. I run Bridgestone Dueler Alanza Ecopias for the summer and get better fuel mileage with the summer blend. Just the result I get all others may vary with their experiences.
  12. Just curious does this vehicle have a remote start? it sure was behaving like the remote start was activated if it has one.
  13. I am hoping they work well. I open and close my rear hatch about 12 times a day during the week so they get a lot of use.
  14. I did get two new rear hatch lift supports (monroes) ordered through rockauto. Total price with shipping 34 and change. Local auto stores had none and they ranged from 25 to 35 each. Then I can stop wearing my hard hat every time I access the rear area of the Edge.
  15. Sounds like a two person job and all I have is a moody preteen girl as an assistant. LOL. I will have to get with my buddy to work on this one.
  16. All I can say is we cut the sway bar links off and had new ones ready to go for the job. Most mechanics will tell you it is far easier to cut them off and put on new ones especially since the price of the links is not much compared to the head aches you are describing.
  17. While in the subject of long lasting fluids. Brake fluid is original and never been changed. Humm. My power steering was changed out only due to the fact that it all leaked out due to the broken hose.
  18. Oil sample was received by Blackstone today. Now I am waiting for the test results. On other issues I have bumped my head lately too many times on the rear hatch. I think it is time to replace the hatch struts as no matter how many times I have hit my head it still hurts each time. LOL
  19. When I clean my K&N and re oil it. I take special care to oil it, but not over apply the oil. This is a case where too much is a bad thing and the MAF/MAP sensor will take the hit. I did have a chevy (HHR JUNK CAR, whole other story) that the MAF/MAP sensor had to be replaced due to the K&N oil IMHO. My fault most likely as I was new to the K&N fither system. Since then experience has of course taught me many lessons. A note on the dry filter if I decided to go that route I personally would get some liquid clothes detergent and mix up a diluted gallon and be done with it. Same concept and cheaper based on the SDS sheet I read from the website. Essentially what you are doing when you clean it is to break down the water surface to penetrate and using the diluted laudry soap does the same thing and also provided the ability to break down the oils and clean them out of the filter. Then simply rinse thourghly and let dry and reinstall.
  20. So true on the warranty issues. Most warranties are so cumbersome and designed to provide the manufacturer with a legal "out" for not providing warranty service. I bet the people that write them can not even abide by them. Either way just wanted to show the connection and it also proves a point that K&N recognizes the issue with the oil being the escape clause for car owners when it comes to warranty. As you know I have had a K&N in my Edge for over 200k miles and not had an issue.
  21. That would make sense. Could it be the Ford Dealers need to start employing IT professional repair persons. After all this is a computer that may be causing the problem. http://eandt.theiet.org/magazine/2012/02/the-teardown-ford-edge.cfm
  22. Rather vague on the cleaning instructions but essentially they use a NON-IONIC SURFACTANT which is generally associated with pretreating and in conjunction with herbicide applications to clean the filters. This in it's self is not really a danger they put this stuff in laundry soap etc to degrade the surface tension of liquids (i.e. water) in order to clean and penetrate. This filter is a K&N filter designed by K&N but sold under another name. Only difference is it does not use and oil. You can buy a gallon of the cleaner online from other vendors for 20 bucks or pay this company 11 bucks for 32 oz pretty good mark up for the achems razor. Let me know if you get my applied meaning for achems razor.
  23. That sort of takes bad battery out of the equation unless the new battery is also bad. Maybe a bad BCM?
  24. They sure buried the alternator down in there and the A/C compressor is in the way from the bottom so the only real way is just as you described it. I do not look forward to the day I may have to do this.
