  1. Use quality fuel, keep the tires inflated properly, avoid high throttle tip-in when possible. Probably the 3 biggest ones. A lot of people tend to ignore the first one, but saving a few cents a gallon buying the bargain brand usually doesn't end up being a bargain at all.
  2. Not really sure what you're referring to. The 2008 Edge is rated 18 mpg combined with AWD, 19 without. So if you're averaging 21 or 22, you're doing better than par for the course. I average around 21 in my '11 Sport, which is also above the 19 mpg combined that is advertised for it.
  3. Hmmm good info. Suppose I will hide my key inside the car a little better when I go for a jog at the park.
  4. Hmmm. I have my phone with me almost every time I get in the car and I rarely ever change from the home screen at all unless I'm using the GPS, which is rare, so I don't think it's just that. Could be one cause I suppose, but it does it more often than that, even when not touching a thing after starting the vehicle.
  5. Does this also apply to "Samantha" randomly yelling her spiel at me on vehicle start-up about distractions and Sync's voice-activated system? Also, is there any rhyme or reason to when she says that? It seems to be completely random (and frankly, very annoying).
  6. We can only hope. Kinda embarrassing that their "top tier" infotainment system hasn't been able to do all the things the cheaper models have been able to do now for years.
  7. I'd also be fairly certain that the "fuel used" reading isn't an actual measurement, but is calculated based on speed, gear, throttle position, etc just like your fuel economy ratings are. I would say there's a fairly large margin of error in these calculations. Add into that that I don't believe the "reserve" portion of the tank is measured as part of the capacity specifications and I can see how you'd get numbers higher than your listed tank capacity.
  8. It's not of concern to me because it's not that noticeable to me. Sure, if it was worse I'd consider getting it looked at. Not saying it's not possibly an issue for others.
  9. Eh, I can probably say I have that one. It's only on the 1-2 shift at very low speeds though, like inching along in stop-and-go traffic. Really not much of a concern to me.
  10. Any info on those TSB's? Mine was built sometime in 2010. Haven't had any tranny or engine problems to speak of though.
  11. With all the rain we've had here lately, it brings up one of my pet peeves with auto lights: they sometimes turn on and off in the rain as the ambient light goes up and down with the weather. I have auto lights in my 2011 Limited. I never use them.
  12. I've noticed with the rain-sensing wipers that if they are left on, they will sometimes activate for a random pass once in awhile when passing through intermittent shadows like those cast by trees alongside the highway. Could it be this you are experiencing? I try to make it a point to remember to turn mine off unless it's actually raining, as those random passes for no reason can be a little startling if you aren't expecting it.
  13. Sounds like one uninformed dealer. They've been a factory option for at least the past several years. I have them on my '11. Fortunately I've encountered no problems with them so far.
  14. Thank you! I've seen several responses from you on other posts already. Glad to see Ford being so hands-on with this forum.
  15. Works for me. While my MFT has been working relativley well (I still haven't installed the most recent update either), I would look forward to something that is completely revamped, especially if it hastens response time.
  16. I believe it is 25% below recommended pressure.
  17. Would probably only be able to find it in a Ford service manual at this point. Not really sure where to point you on that I'm afraid. I'm guessing you wouldn't really encounter them in too many places if you're swapping an entire engine. Perhaps on the flywheel and exhaust manifolds. Most of those sorts of fasteners are used on the "guts" of things.
  18. Lug pattern, backspacing, width, and weight capacity are all things to keep in mind.
  19. Yeah, I haven't looked in my manual recently, but unless they changed something, I'm pretty sure the 3.7L is recommended for 87 octane only. Don't think 91 or 93 increase power at all.
  20. I've run nothing but 87 in my '11 Sport since the day I bought it. Seems to perform just fine.
  21. There's some speculation that the new software package will be backwards compatible with the existing hardware.
  22. You'd have to check if any of the fasteners are torque-to-yield. Those should typically be replaced instead of re-used.
  23. They aren't horrible in snow, but they surely are not snow tires by any means. If you drive in snow often, I'd lean against it.
  24. In this particular case, I could see some good deals on the Edge coming up toward the end of the year as they begin prepping to launch the all-new 2015 and want to reduce inventory on the current model.
  25. Well, I can say for certain it wasn't changed as of 2011. Had mine replaced just before the warranty expired. Crossing my fingers they didn't just replace it with the same faulty part that will fail in another 50,000 miles.
