  1. Ha-Ha.... The list of vehicles CR has Dissed is long an impressive, from F-1 World Championship winning race cars to trucks with million mile durability. Most of the cars/trucks they have recommended are now in scrap yards. I've made a habit of buying things NOT recommended by CR for the last 40 years.
  2. You are COMPLETELY WRONG! My county put a special task force together to reduce speeding they said, what they meant was generate income catching people on the way to/from work in mornings & evenings. I got caught one morning 3-1/2 years ago. It WAS LIDAR, picture was available upon request. Task force was six Deputies, six new cruisers, six LIDAR's. I even read the bio on the Deputy that wrote my ticket. He had a very poor attitude for someone half my age. The fact I live close to the state capital may effect the state's willingness to use LIDAR. But there's 49 other state capitals too. I know law enforcement visibly increases in other state capitals I've been through. Laws governing how radar/LIDAR is used vary state to state. I've had my Escort 35 years, used it a couple million miles, and have to agree, best way to not get stopped for speeding is to not speed. Driving a Volvo helps too. Sometimes.
  3. WHY BOTHER with a radar detector? Around here all the cops use LASER, point and shoot, accurate to fractions of a mph, Takes your picture in the car and measures distance to your car, basically impossible to fight in court. GOOGLE it! As a County Sheriff Deputy told me after stopping me doing 64 in a 55 one afternoon and noticed my old ESCORT on my sun visor, "Go home and give that old thing to somebody you hate!". And that was 17 years ago!
  4. I'd have told the SOB from Ford Canada to take the car and drive it a couple weeks while praying for rain. Your fortunate to have a dealer on your side of the situation. The normal scenario is the dealer and company feuding with each other because neither one wants to deal with the situation.
  5. I would for sure mention the situation. The service tech will start the car and enter a comment like "could not duplicate problem" but if it ever happens again it is on record.
  6. This is the thing that absolutely makes me LIVID MAD at Ford. They have customer owned cars sitting at dealers for months waiting on parts to repair them, and they're using hundreds, maybe thousands of those parts to build new cars that will sit on dealers lots for a couple months. I had that exact thing happen back in November 1988, left rear fender for a Mustang GT hatchback. We drove this 6 month old car for over three months with plastic sheeting duct taped over the broken rear window because the bent fender wouldn't accept a new window. I finally got fed up waiting, called my body shop, who ordered their parts from my dealer, called my dealer's parts manager and raised cane with him. I mean REALLY raised cane! My new fender complete with it's first dents was delivered to the body shop the next day. The IDIOT parts manager forgot that little detail. All these months perfect fenders were installed, hundreds per day on new Mustangs. And they ship me a piece of crap Overnight express! I've been involved with purchasing, material planning and distribution for over thirty years. ATTENTION FORD, REPAIR PARTS FOR SERVICE & REPAIR OF A CUSTOMER OWNED VEHICLE TAKES PRIORITY OVER PARTS FOR NEW PRODUCTION. Screw me once, shame on me, screw me again on replacement parts and you get the &@#$ CAR BACK PRONTO! You guys that have been driving rental cars for months because your dealer is waiting on parts to fix your Edge are much more patient than I am. I'd give Crystal here a call, get your claim expedited, then call your dealership and demand nicely to talk the the dealership's owner or general manager, demand a new car that doesn't leak or a complete refund for the car you haven't had the use of, including interest.
  7. Wife did 700 miles in 14-1/2 hours ten days ago with NO pain or discomfort. The problem is not the seat, it's the way you have it adjusted or are trying to sit in it. Trying to Lemon Law a car because you can't or won't adjust the seat properly seems totally wrong. Read your owners manual for help in adjusting your seat.
  8. Yes, with today's lock-up torque converters, no slippage in the transmissions, just the overdrive ratio for the transmission gear, rear axle ratio, and tire circumference effects engine rpm. I know I've seen all that info, may be in owners manual. Might have been in a post on this forum too.
  9. Interval wipers work 100 times better than rain sensing. Thing that irritates me more than anything is the Volvo sits so low the windshield gets sprayed if the road has any moisture at all. I'm constantly turning wipers on/off. Rain sensing can delay wipers coming on for several seconds while following a car on wet roads with a road splashed windshield.
  10. Wife & Her Sister took the longest road trip yet in our '15 Edge SEL AWD w/3.5L V-6. 1375 miles about 97-1/2% All Interstate, 24.2 mpg, 23.15 hours, 59.4 mph average speed. All info per the on-board computer. Running the whole way with the A/C cranked up full blast. I changed the engine oil/filter at 4250 miles just before Wifey left.
  11. My '06 Volvo S40 has rain sensing wipers. A very annoying option. I would not want them on another car.
  12. That's REALLY impressive for an SUV to run times & speeds like that. SON's first car was a '88 Mustang GT 5-speed hatchback with T-tops. With the high output 5.0L his best stock quarter mile was around 14.4 to 14.5, then the modifications came. He was able to finally get into the high 13's. Traction was an issue getting out of the hole.
  13. I'm about 99.5468% positive Ford is buying these from some company like Deflectashield that thermo-forms plastic. I've had bug shields on my last two pickups, never had wind deflectors for the side windows. My current truck is old enough it has vent windows!
  14. I thought a '15 Escape would have fit our needs but SON suggested an Edge to Wifey, and she looked at one at the nearest dealer and then it became a matter of which one. IMHO, some of the new options are stupid. Wife & I know how to parallel park, it was required to get our license when we were 16, the car doesn't have to do that for us. I was taught to watch my mirrors, I don't need a black box to tell me a car is in my blind spot, I watched him/her pull in there, I watch my lane placement, the car doesn't need to tell me to get back where I belong. I'd save yourself about $5000-$6000 and choose options more carefully. We had a discussion on another forum a year ago that in-car navigation systems will go the same way as factory 8-tracks and under dash record players did, meaning they will stop being installed soon. A Garmin or smart phone is much easier to use. Nothing wrong with more horsepower, the 6-speed auto is impressive, I sometimes think it drops one gear too many but that's just my opinion. The brakes and handling are not clumsy like a person would expect an SUV to be. The '15 Edge is probably the best kept secret of Ford's line up.
  15. Best paint job yet I've on a new Ford. Of the eight showroom new vehicles I've had, 2 GM's, a Volvo, and 5 Fords, the paint finish just keeps getting better all the time. Our SEL is Ruby Red. The stylists could have used less matt black plastic trim on the thing.
  16. Sounds like a personal problem! Guy on my old Volvo S40 forum complained about how close together the clutch & brake pedals were and also the brake & gas pedals. Then he fessed up to having size 15 triple EEE shoes! Why in the world would the guy think that was Volvo's problem?!?!?
  17. WHY IS A PROBLEM with a 2013 Edge even mentioned on a 2015 Edge forum? The '15 Edges do NOT even have a parking brake pedal! The parking brake is set with a little finger operated switch on the console.
  18. I forget the rpm of the torque peak on the new 3.5L, either 4000 or 4500, HP peak is 6000 rpm. When you want to accelerate it will always drop at least one and sometimes two gears. Years ago it took a pretty stout big block or a Really hot small block with MFI or one or two 4bbl or 3 Dueces to make 280 HP. And those engines would have some low end torque and mid-range torque. Once the little 3.5L drops a gear or two it gets up to speed O-K. Back in '88 I considered my 5.0L HO at 225 HP & around 280#/ft of torque a high winding engine with not much low/mid-range. You needed to see 3000-3500 on the tach to accelerate with authority and shift around 4800-5000. Today kids consider it a torque monster! Just watch the tach on your Edge and keep it over 3000 if you want to accelerate, pay no attention to the gas gauge. If you wanted MPG you should have bought a VW Jetta SporTrac!
  19. If Ford is going to require a written request to be approved BY THEM before they do warranty work on a brand new Edge, I sure hope they give everybody a brand new Explorer for a loaner till their Edge gets fixed! I'd have gone BALLISTIC if a dealer tried that on me!
  20. Everything I have that's turbocharged is rather low psi, Volvo is 10 psi, '96 7.3L PSD is 15-16 psi, never had a problem in almost half a million miles blowing a hose off. SON's new '14 RAM 2500 W/CUMMINS makes 30 psi boost. I really doubt the Ecoboost makes anywhere near that much pressure. I'm sure it's due to a less than optimal design and assemblers not getting the clamps tight enough in assembly. The power wrenches they tighten the clamps with need to be calibrated at specific intervals, monthly, quarterly, etc. If someone was to really force the issue with their dealer I suspect QA & engineering could investigate the issue today or tomorrow! (Hint hint)
  21. Well, the repair must be a LOT harder than most people think. My dealer had Five Edges on his lot. They must not have done a single thing to them prior to the sale. Two weeks after we got it we got the paperwork for the recall. Sounds like the dealership didn't do the repair when the car was in the shop for pre-delivery servicing. What a crock! When it needs it's first oil change I'll write up a laundry list of things for them to check/repair and they can get The Wife something new to drive to work for the day!
  22. Ruby1025 - If your problem is the same as that other Edge was, a hose that blew off, your Edge has been running on unfiltered air all the time you have been running it, which sounds like it has been a considerable number of miles. That could be bad for long term durability of a brand new engine. I can completely understand needing to drive your brand new car.... But I would have thought your dealer would have bent over backwards to get your car repaired immediately for this kind of problem. For a properly trained service tech the repair takes 5-10 minutes! If the service writer makes you wait for these kinds of repairs, the service MANAGER, or GENERAL MANAGER would be the next guy I would talk to.
  23. Typical Motor Trend drivel, TOTAL waste of band width to post on-line. They must have owed Nissan a Huge favor, all the testers had issues with the Nissan which was the slowest/worst in almost every test category..... But forget the facts, claim it's best for purely subjective reasons. What a bunch of crap! Same deal with the Hyundai.
  24. Fuel, gasoline will slosh in a less than full tank, won't slosh in a completely full tank.
  25. Sounds like you at least got a response back from Weathertec, I sent them an e-mail request a month ago and have heard NOTHING!
