  1. Today I did another lube service at 15K miles - the 10K mile service was done by Ford - I plan to have Ford do alternate services. The Royal purple that came out the PTU still looks good and the magnetic drain plug was clean after 10K miles. It doesn't take much to do the PTU lube service so I'll stick to a 10 ~ 15K mile interval. Also pleased to report that the engine is now 100% dry - no more oil leaks since the solenoid was replaced by Ford.
  2. He is taking the word of one of his clients, its not a trial that he conducted himself under controlled conditions. If this was really plausible, the tire manufacturers would have got onto it as well - you could counter that argument with a comment that they want to sell more tires, but on the other hand they would outsell their competitors if they advertised that kind of mileage with good performance. It's like all the gimmicks that claim to save 10 to 20% on fuel consumption - the competition between manufacturers is tight and some have even paid penalties for overstating their efficiency figures, so they'd have been all over those gimmicks if they were for real .
  3. I've read that the Middle East versions do in fact have a drain plug on the PTU, so best you crawl under and take a look.
  4. https://www.amazon.com/303-30313-CSR-Protectant-Plastic-Fiberglass/dp/B00KN0UOEE/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_263_bs_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=3340Y0J0VYCR5R88PT3X I've only started using about a year ago and very happy with it. I'm not buying the extended mileage on the tires - if that was possible, it would be at a major sacrifice of grip, particularly in the wet.
  5. Mobil-1 5W30 every 5K miles which is overkill seeing as my driving is light, Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor triggers around 10K and the oil is good for 15-20K miles.
  6. I'm pretty sure it was, because it took only a couple of days with it turned off for the smell to go. I did a search on why it auto kicks off recirc mode, and a few sites cited the damp smell as the reason. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/12114-stop-the-recirculate-control-from-automatically-shutting-off/
  7. Ford's links say that Sync Connect is required and not available on our model - I'd appreciate it if you gave it a try on your Edge and report back if it works.
  8. My car was only a few weeks old and I started to get the damp smell, and realized that it was my extended use of the recirc button - it will auto switch off recirc and I'd turn it back on immediately. I seldom use the recirc now and its all good now. I realize that the chances are slim that this is your issue seeing as it only came up after you'd owned the car for some time.
  9. Give it a try and report back if it works for you, but it doesn't on my 2017 Sport, and I haven't read of any other Edge Sync3 systems working.
  10. Thanks for that. Do you know what Ford's reason is for dumping VHR ? Not knowing what the update involved, I started speculating that it could be the cause of the unusual behaviour of the adaptive cruise. I'll definitely remember not to run the engine for the update next time.
  11. I did not find any settings changed and my iPhone was still paired. Its poor that Ford offer no explanation of the update. I have a fairly long drive on a winding farm type road to my place of work, and always use the adaptive cruise control, and on some of the curves it will decelerate a little, and today on the way home it felt very erratic when regulating the speed in some of the bends - could this be a result of the update?
  12. Really, Ford couldn't figure out a way to do this without the engine running for up to 60 minutes !!!!
  13. The space used on my USB stick was 1.61GB Crazy that they specify 32GB - maybe the updates that include NAV maps need that size.
  14. I just updated mine using a USB stick, which I think is a better method. I can't find the release notes, and cannot see any obvious difference. How does Ford do the Navigation Map updates? - I'm in a new subdivision and my street isn't on the Sync Nav maps yet.
  15. Thanks, I'll call them on Monday as the automated recording advised that they're only available Mon-Fri. When it doesn't actually make a call to "0", I get a message that it could not establish a phone call.
  16. Apologies if this has been covered - a search revealed nothing. This problem comes and goes, and hasn't made an appearance for a few weeks, and then out of the blue its back. Often when I turn on the car it attempts to make a call and the voice advises to call 911 if this is an emergency, and if I look at the dialled numbers on my phone it show a solitary "0" in the "recents". Also, occasionally when turning on the car the radio goes silent and then a notice appears that it could not connect to my phone, and when closing the message the phone shows connected, and is able to make handsfree calls. 2017 Ford Edge Sport Sync 3 with iPhone 7. PS. I see another Android user reporting the same. https://forums.androidcentral.com/ask-question/814947-why-does-my-galaxy-s8-dial-0-when-connecting-ford-sync.html#post6018509
  17. Redline is most certainly one of the top lubricant brands, but your coolant or oil temperature observations aren't really a measure of the oils performance.
  18. The automatic control of the coolant will also have a greater impact on the oil temperature than the anti-frication properties of the oil, so its more likely some other influence such as ambient temperature that you noticed. Redline products are good, but in my opinion you're using the wrong thing to gage its performance.
  19. The coolant temperature is regulated by the thermostat, so not representative of the anti-friction properties of the oil.
  20. What temperature indication were you referring to above?
  21. Sounds like you got a poorly refurbished one.
  22. tried a forum search for "GPS" and that came up with nothing, so for the second search attempt I use "Navigation" and get the above notice. Really, two successive searches is flagged as a "Flood", LOL.
  23. My Costco junk mail this week had a 3T jack on special at $100 with free shipping - found it at my local Costco and took one home - thanks for all the comments and suggestions. I'm also pleased that its low enough to use on my wife's Mini Cooper. Now to find a good deal on a pair of 3T jack stands. https://www.costco.com/.product.996603.html 3 Ton Professional Grade Aluminum And Steel Service Jack
