  1. This sounds pretty well the same as a problem I had. I had put in -40 windshield washer solution in knowing that winter was coming but had been running normal washer fluid (with a touch of washing up liquid to degrease) for the summer. Turns out that the weather was kind and I did not use the washers very much before winter came, so my washer fluid was a mixture of regular and -40. One would have thought this should have been OK but when I looked at the liquid at temps in the 0C (32F) range it was almost crystalline. My assumption is that rather than forming a fully miscible solution the mixture was forming some sort of eutectic mixture with a non linear freezing response. To correct the problem I 1} drained the windshield washer reservoir using a vacuum pump and 2) after filling up with new -40 washer fluid pumped the new fluid through the system for enough time to completely eliminate any of the old fluid (Time was somewhat arbitrary and a bit seat of the pants). No more problems although now I make a point of putting in -40 solution in late August to make sure the system is full of -40 stuff by the onset of colder weather.
  2. Many thanks about the headrest. Please keep us informed. As an "old" member of the forum it has been an issue for sometime. It might even be appropriate to create a specific thread.
  3. Few years ago went down to NM from Canada. Slept in the back of the Edge for 4 nights at Truck stops so that I could get a shower in the am. Put the back seats down, moved the front seat fwds and put a back pack between the front seat and back folded seat to bridge the gap. Used a 1 1/2" thermo rest. Worked well. If doing it again I would take a piece of plywood to cover the gap between the back seat and the front seat. I am 6' 1.5" and shrinking
  4. Thumper 07, were the mileage numbers quoted using regular or premium gas? Thanks
  5. May have missed this, but does it run on regular gas?
  6. Based on the noise levels between my 2008 (good) and 2010 (bad) and Ford's own admission and associated investment, I think there is variability. This is an indicator of quality issues not just the electronics.
  7. You dont say if it is a single axle or a dual axle. If a single axle, change the weight distribution, i.e. move it to the back of the trailer so that the hitch weight decreases. In my case I have some wet sand in some old windshield washer containers that I place right at the back of my single axle trailer so that I maintain a 12% tongue weight. For a dual axle the same should apply, but it may be a bit more difficult to apply. I once looked at a trailer that would have given me a similar problem and was told that there are some weight distribution hitch assemblies that may be appropriate. See you local trailer dealer for more info. Be warned they were expensive.
  8. As some of you know I have been less than happy with the wind noise of my 2010 AWD Ltd, especially when compared against my 2008. I have recently been able to reduce the wind noise to levels close to my 2008. Also, the noise that comes into the cabin from a passing vehicle, especially a tractor trailer, has been mitigated. The solution was based on a distant post, where a similar problem was reported to have been solved by a service manager who "knew exactly how to solve the problem". He apparently put a round rubber seal behind the OEM seal. For my fix, I used 1/4 x 3/8 neoprene sponge (closed cell) foam tape from Canadian Tire placed behind the rubber door seal attached to the car body frame. I put it behind the OEM door seal in such a way that the stock factory door seal rubber is forced to stand out a little. I am assuming this forces a slightly better contact between the door and the factory seal. It will be interesting to see how this fix stands the test of time since the Canadian Tire seal is cheap consumer stuff and does not retain its resilience very well. I will also be talking to my Ford Dealer since in the original post the Service Manager was quoted as "having the appropriate sealing rubber in his office" (my memory of the words). As for the underlying cause, I have to assume that the door is not correctly hung, something I have suspected from day one but something my dealer did not want to play around with.
  9. Do you mean it wont even start if a you use a set of jump/booster cables?. Does it crank over with the cables? If it wont crank or start with a boost you may have damaged some of the electronics when you put in the new battery.
  10. I have a covered trailer and tow my EG in it. Over a set of scales the total weight was only 2100 lbs. Your utility trailer and sportsbike should be well below your 2000lbs
  11. I had a high pitched whine in my 2008. It was the fan motor. Stopped when the heating was switch off. Replaced under warranty
  12. Very interesting Nextime. I will go out and check mine today if the weather is not too bad. I did find that the door seal was not "plugged: in at the bottom of the drivers door. By plugged in I mean one of those little thingies (great technical term) that is attached to the seal and plugs into a hole in the door to hold the seal in place. It is now plugged in and I think some of the noise is gone, but I am still getting a lot from the rear of the drivers side door. I am also becoming suspicious that some wind noise is coming from the upper front area of the windshield.
  13. Loved my 2008 Edge. Not as happy with my 2010. Power seems more responsive than the 2008 Fuel economy is better than the 2008. Wind noise and road noise, which are something that is very important to me, are IMHOP significantly higher than my 2008.
  14. An online search found a brochure for my 2010. Any model including and above and SEL has the "particulate" filter. Wow $24 is cheap, my dealer wants Can$37 for it. Will check out after-market sources or wait until I visit my Son in the US. Another case of overpriced Canadian product. Thanks KLC, will do it myself (after a discussion with my Ford dealer)
  15. I have an AWD Ltd with duel temperature control. When the temperature is lowered significantly on one side (Say drivers side set at 23C and Passenger set at 19C) heat (high) will sometimes start coming from the drivers side upper vents. When the passenger side is set to the minimum (16C) high heat always comes from the drivers side vents. The reverse is also true. When the temp setting is on the single mode there does not seem to be a problem. The dealer says this is a design problem due to sensor position and that ford are aware of it but nothing can be done. Has anyone else had a similar experience or am I being fed a load of you know what? I do not remember this issue with my 2008 Ltd AWD, but it could also be that the situation did not crop up.
  16. Thanks Ladybird4. I had a 2008 AWD Ltd and as you say it was there. I now have to confirm that Ford have not "cheapened" the 2010 models and taken it out. Background to this is that I just had the 25,000km service done. According to the dealer this service is a fixed cost package. The owners manual states that this filter should be replaced at the 25,000 km service and therefor, in my opinion should be included in the service package. When I asked about the cabin air filter the above was their response. This could get interesting!!
  17. Can anyone tell me how to find out if my 2010 AWD Ltd. has a cabin/pollen filter. It was my understanding that all Ltd had them but not so says my dealer who is saying I do not have one. FYI I have done a search of this forum
  18. Dont have your problem problem with mirror, but every so often my seat does not go back to its memory set position. Manually put it where I want it drive around and the next time I get in it goes back to its correct memory setting. I have a 2010 but my 2008 would do the same every so often
