  1. No problem on the 3.5 engine in mine because there isn't a cover. Must be an Ecoboost add on for air flow?
  2. I may have to invest in one of the easy drain valves one day, because I do hate burning my fingers with the hot oil. I don't know why I put if off for so long. I had been talking about trying one of the Fumoto valves for several years before I finally did it. One of the best "mods" I've done. It's also a convenience to just put the hose from the valve into an empty jug to fill with the used oil, and can shut off the flow to switch jugs if needed. Only need for a drain pan now is for the oil filter replacement.
  3. The brakes would not wear down just because they are being used as a "hold" on hills. In order for the pads to wear, the rotors would have to be moving and the pads then applied against them. When sitting, the rotors are not moving and the pads are acting as a clamp. Soon as you start to move, the pads release.
  4. I have never had an "O" ring on any drain plug leak either, even my 2003 F150 that had over 160000 miles, with oil changes done every 5000 miles! That's over 32 oil changes and no drips or leaks ever. My 2013 Edge has had 6 oil changes done (again every 5000 miles) and no problems. I did replace the oil drain plug at the 30000 miles change and install a Fumoto drain valve. It's so nice now not burning my fingers taking out a hot drain plug (I always drain the oil when the oil is hot) and not dropping the plug into the oil catch pan by accident. The oil does drain out slower, but that gives me time to check some of the other items I always check every oil change. Other cars I've owned that used a crush washer, the washer was replaced every time I changed oil.
  5. Hopefully the extended warranty Ford issued to cover the APIM failure will apply to your 2011. I guess you found out one difference between your 2008 and this new 2011. That is the additional electronics added to later models for additional features, SYNC, My Ford Touch, etc. Good luck. Customer Satisfaction Program 12M02 - Supplement #1: Applies to eligible sold customer vehicles outside of the bumper-to-bumper warranty. The 12M02 warranty extension covers Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) Hardware replacement for failed modules and includes software updates. http://www.revbase.com/BBBMOTOR/TSb/DownloadPdf?id=182405
  6. Best to send Benny at Levittiown Ford an email. You can find his posts under the Forum Sponsor listings near the bottom of the main forum posts. Great service and good prices from what I have read, although I haven't had a chance to use him yet. I did find one diagram showing that part, but only a partial number of 7D443 on it. That was from Ford Parts Giant, although that said it was discontinued. I find that hard to believe, but who knows. They were calling the part "Housing Assembly Selector Dial" Better call Benny!
  7. Congratulations and welcome to a new chapter in your life! My wife and I were married for over 6 years before we decided we were ready to have a child. It was a big change of course having a child, but a wonderful experience. Best of luck to you, your wife, and your new daughter!
  8. I flushed/changed my coolant about 4 (+/-) months back, and haven't had a single issue until now. You mentioned this in your original post. Now the day your problem started, you said it was -30 degrees. What concentration coolant/water are you running, and did you actually check the coolant to see what temperature it protects down to? First thing I thought of was a frozen engine block because of weak coolant protection. Hope it's something simple like that, but reading the other replies regarding the water pump, that is a very likely cause also.
  9. The chart linked to will show what tire size you can substitute and still be within the recomended 3% difference. The green color indicates a good substitute. However, you will have to make sure there is enough room for the different size tire in the wheel openings. Shouldn't be be a problem, but something to keep in mind. http://ejelta.com/tiresize/index.html?ws20=1&tiresize=245%2F60%2F18&maxdelta=3&minwidth=225&maxwidth=275&minratio=65&maxratio=45&minwheel=18&maxwheel=20 This link will allow you to see the exact differences between the two tires, or any other size you want to check. In your case, you will be doing 61 MPH when your speedometer shows 60 MPH. http://www.tire-size-calculator.info/ Tire Size Calculator _ Comparison of tires and wheels.htm
  10. Welcome! Since you are new here, you perhaps don't know about the SEARCH function located near the top of the page on the right hand side right under the picture of the Edge. Here is just one example of what can be found using "adding remote start" in the search box. Plenty of good information there to get started (pun intended!) with. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/17035-adding-oem-remote-start-kits-parts-explained-detailed-2011/?hl=%2Badding+%2Bremote+%2Bstart
  11. Thanks, I didn't realize there was a change. I have never towed anything with any car or truck I've owned. I order the factory tow package or find one on the lot with it for the increased cooling and other additional items which may come with it. It also is a nice feature come trade in time or resale time usually. Especially when it has never been towed with!
  12. Has something changed with the factory installed hitch? My 2013 Edge has the optional factory towing package, and the hitch does have a 2" opening. I just went out to the garage and measured it to make sure. Were earlier year models equipped with a different size opening?
  13. Carr142, that was a very informative video and explained pretty well how the seal works, and what to do first if it sets an engine code for leaking. I also watched his related video where he actually replaces the tube assembly. Should be very similar I would think on an Edge. One note near the end of his video. He specifically mentioned that Ford is not covering any repairs other than under the bumper to bumper warranty. The power train warranty and the emissions warranty do not cover this repair. Confirms what others have posted on here.
  14. Sirius and XM are having a free preview for the next week or so. I just tuned into my unsubscribed Sirius today while driving. The gas prices showing may be a part of the free preview.
  15. You are correct after I look at that link closer. It does not include the sensors. However, there are sensors and bands for good prices if someone wanted to stay OEM. Without an extensive search, here is one set of used OEM for an example. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-Lincoln-Mercury-OEM-TPMS-Tire-Pressure-Sensors-Set-of-4-/201221421767?hash=item2ed9bb3ac7 I do like what you have posted as an alternative. It would just be a matter of how much an owner wanted to spend on replacement sensors, bands or no bands, etc.
  16. Nice! Any trouble finding the wires to cut into? Do you recall what colors they were?
  17. Keep in mind also the hub opening that the 2014 Ford uses. Many aftermarket wheels may require the use of a hub center ring to make up any difference in the opening size. I sold my 20" chrome clad wheels from my Edge Limited, and put on 20" wheels from a Ford Flex. The wheel is a silver finish and no chrome. I wish Detroit Wheel was doing these wheels when I changed mine, as I really like the looks and durability. They sell them outright, or have an exchange plan for a lower cost. The finish has several options available I believe. http://www.ebay.com/itm/20-FORD-EDGE-PVD-CHROME-WHEELS-RIMS-FACTORY-OEM-2011-12-13-14-15-Set-3771-/181502730873?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Wheels&hash=item2a4267e279&vxp=mtr
  18. Never heard of that, but sounds interesting. Are you saying you could use a valve stem mounted sensor on the older type frequency and module by changing the frequency of the sensor? However, your cost of $60.00 for one is higher than what a set of four can be found for. Here is one example of brand new OEM Ford band sensors with all hardware for $51.00 which would include the shipping charge. They can be used on wheels up to 28" according to the seller. http://www.ebay.com/itm/05-06-07-08-09-Ford-Tire-Monitor-Sensor-TPMS-Bands-Straps-and-Cradles-Set-of-4-/3712509
  19. Just opened mine and yes, they are the Ford OEM parts with all wiring and instructions. Thanks again for having posted the original topic with a link for this unbeatable deal! The $36.88 payment included no tax and free shipping.
  20. What model year edge are you talking about? If you are putting them onto a 2010 or older Edge, you will need to use the type that have a band holding the sensor to the wheel. 2011 and newer models use the sensors that just attach through the valve stem hole. The two different type sensors use different frequencies to transmitter to a module in the car You would not be able to use the newer type sensors in an older Edge, or older in a newer for those reasons. Since you want to keep your old wheels for winter and use the sensors on them, you will have to buy some others for the new wheels. I find good deals on eBay, having bought some extra OEM new ones for under $50.00 total for all four of the newer style.
  21. CinnamonEdge, I was wondering if perhaps I would be able to remove the illuminated piece from the black ones I ordered and use it in my grey ones that came in the car. I was waiting to see once I got the black ones in hand, but you have answered the question for me. My other thought was to use Duplicolor brand spray paint which has an interior plastic paint match. I don't get deliveries until around 4 or 4:30, but am expecting mine today also. Nice to see they are what we thought they were and there was no problem getting them! Best deal I have had on Ford parts since a few years ago. I was able to buy the 5 quart jugs of Motorcraft 5W20 synthetic blend oil at a ridiculous price of around $3.00 or so a jug if I recall correctly. One of the auto supply stores was discontinuing it from stock and all of their stores were blowing them out. I was able to get 8 jugs!
  22. There are several tire manufacturers that supply tires as OEM equipment on Fords and DO include a mileage warranty. Some that do not cover mileage will still cover defects and workmanship for up to 6 years from purchase or 2/32 tread wear remaining, or other limits set by each manufacturer. Pirelli covers unlimited time or mileage for workmanship or defects according to the tire warranty provided with my 2013 Edge based on thread wear remaining. It's important to check your tire brand and the warranty it came with from the factory to learn exactly what your coverage actually is. Link below for the 2013 Tire Warranty I have for my 2013 Edge. BF Goodrich and Michelin are just two manufacturers who provide mileage warranties on certain models of OEM provided tires. Most have defect and workmanship warranties beyond the Ford bumper to bumper limits. http://www.fordservicecontent.com/Ford_Content/catalog/owner_guides/13tirtw2e.pdf
  23. OK, I got confirmation that they shipped and should be here Thursday.
  24. Thank you for posting this information. I just checked and saw there were only two of them left. I ordered one for the $36.00 after seeing they are the genuine Ford OEM parts, and that there are in fact a pair for that price. Even though they are the black color instead of the grey color I need, I may be able to do something about the color. I also noted they are for the 2011 and up models. After ordering, I went back to the site and see they are down to one pair left, but the price is now over $116.00! I don't know if the $36.00 price was a complete mistake, some type of special deal, or what. I have the Prime membership so should get them within 2 days. I'll post back when (or if) they come!
  25. Reading all of these posts about the possible purchase of this Edge, and the question about the one tire which was replaced, I was curious about the Pirelli tires. I have the 20 inch Pirelli tires on my 2013 Edge Limited which came from the factory with them. I rotate every 5000 miles, keep the PSI at 35, and drive about 80 percent highway. At 41000 miles, they are ready to be replaced. Checking the Pirelli Tire Company site, I found this which is very interesting! I have no idea how strict they are following their own terms when it comes to warranty claims, but I doubt if ANYONE could get a warranty claim if they stick to them. The bold print was added by me to high light what I think would prevent any claims being made. This Treadwear Warranty only applies if: You are the original purchaser and have a copy of the original receipt or invoice. You are the owner of the vehicle on which the tires were originally installed. You have had the tires rotated every 3000 to 4000 miles with documentation. All tires worn evenly across the tread, down to the treadwear indicators (2/32") at which time the tires are considered to be legally 100% worn out. Your servicing Pirelli dealer has completed the Tire Rotation Record.
